Morbid Angel was THE band in the 90s early 2000s, they did a fast album: everyone else went fast, they went slow, every one else went slow. Vin you're crazy this song is easy top ten of all times.

The lead guitar in this song is some of Trey's most impressive finger-tapping (at that time anyway). That dude deserves an award of some kind for guitar playing innovation. Domination isn't exactly their greatest album but the musicianship was amazing on it!!

@@ineffige Yep, same here man...'Domination' was the first Morbid Angel cd I bought back in the summer of 1996...but 'Blessed Are The Sick' is my personal favorite of theirs...'Covenant' is great too. Kinda hit and miss with everything else in their catalog to be honest. Have seen them 4 times since 2001 (they opened for Pantera in Peoria, IL -that was interesting -ha).

I saw these guys do this song about 30 years ago, opening for Crowbar in Knoxville, TN. I'm 58 years old and will never forget the pit associated with this song. Like it or not, still one of my favorite songs of this era. The song is still epic to me.

@@DaveG777 It was about a year after Korn debuted their first album. Maybe a little less than a year. Had no idea it was supposed to snow that night. Small club, about 500 people there. Late 94 was when this show happened.

Finally my #1 death metal band Morbid Angel. Cannibal Corpse #2. Bands like Black Sabbath, Morbid Angel and Cathedral showed me that slow and sludgy (done tastefully) can be as heavy as fast and aggressive music. Terrific scoring Sori!!!

This song, while groovy, is not exemplary of the real "death metal" sound of Morbid Angel. I call your alliance leaders into question. Trey's trem picking on guitar was highly influential for DM. Without him, Behemoth would not have evolved into what they did. Check out something from Covenant.

This, this, this x1000. Altars of Madness is a seminal death metal album. Perhaps it gets a bit *too* much credit, after all the album doesn't completely escape thrash influence (and the band was heavily influenced by Slayer and Possessed), but the unique interpretation of those influences is what helped push death metal further out of its thrash roots and towards something more unique. Were it not for albums like Altars I don't think there would be as clear a distinction between death and thrash metal.

Main song I am familiar with from MA is "God of Emptiness"... never heard this song before but it was pretty cool. That changeup just before the solo was heavy af lol. May have to delve into MA a bit.. I been more of a clean vocals kinda metalhead for the most part but in the last few years I started getting into the harsher growls so may be able to get into this band more. Peace

This band is behemoths biggest influence for sure. I grew up on morbid angel. So much subject matter if you guys were to jump into them. Trey used a lot of lovecraft type themes but all rooted in cool philosophy. You should do something off of Covenant; like Rapture or God of Emptiness.

A really great band heavily influenced by Morbid Angel (as well as Yes, Obscura, and others) is Alkaloid. Try the track "As Decreed By Laws Unwritten" for their most Morbid Angel song or "Kernel Panic" for their most Yes sounding song. Or you could go with my personal favorite, "Cthulhu." They have three guitarists that are each some of the best around, and one of them (Morean, the lead singer) is also a composer of classical music.

This is not a Death Metal essential, this is the MTV version of Morbid Angel. Try something from Altars of Madness, people have already suggested good songs: Chapel of Ghouls, Maze of Torment or Immortal Rites are good picks. "Where the slime live" is good for mass appeal on MTV, and an okay introduction to the Death Metal genre, but not an essential by any means. If I would have to pick one essential song by Morbid Angel it would be "Chapel of Ghouls".

For an insane Morbid Angel guitar solo, listen to "Angel Of Disease" off of the Covenant album. Or the solo in "Invocation Of The Continual One". People dog on Trey all the time, but I've yet to hear another guitarist replicate his style.
