I love how brazenly they say they think the era their nostalgic coming-of-age film is set in was probably crap. Also Bobbie Wygant would have been middle-aged in 1970, so this must have made her feel extra-old!
@RebeccaStropoli2 жыл бұрын
They really didn't seem to know anything about the '70s, though. "Everybody was so naive and didn't know about their surroundings," etc. Huh? And the bit about riding bikes "12 miles during summer vacation" isn't so much a time period thing as a suburban versus city kid thing. City kids in the '70s were living pretty close to the same kind of lifestyle that city kids in the '90s were. Anyhow, now they are both around 40, and the kids of today would consider them old and also can't imagine growing up in the '90s, when there were no smartphones, no social media, mainstream internet was in its infancy, etc. Things have changed a LOT from the time they were teens. (That said, Gen Z does seem fascinated by the "olden days" of the '90s, the same way we Gen X-ers were fascinated by the '60s and '70s.) Time capsules like this just mostly show that teens in general don't change much -- they always think they know a LOT more than they do about life, and they are a tad bit obnoxious and eye-rolling when talking to adults (they clearly think the interviewer is an out of touch old crone, haha). I'm sure Ricci and Hoffman would cringe watching this today as the middle-aged moms they are now. ;)
@gmann62692 жыл бұрын
@@RebeccaStropoli The interviewer is old though. Bobbie Wygant was born in 1926 (and she's still alive!), her childhood was in the 1930s. So it must have amused her to hear two 90s kids saying the 70s seemed boring.
@RebeccaStropoli2 жыл бұрын
@@gmann6269 Yeah, but the point is, they were showing her no respect and acting like two obnoxious, entitled little shits. They were just oozing teen girl, rolling-eyes, "I'm so cool" nonsense. And they said a lot of dumb stuff. And that doesn't change no matter WHAT the era! Now they are middle-aged women with kids of their own and probably would watch this and think, "Jesus, those kids!"
@RebeccaStropoli2 жыл бұрын
@@gmann6269 Bobbie Wygant also interviewed Ashleigh Moore from the movie Now and Then, and Moore came off a lot nicer/more mature than those two. Sadly, Moore died very young of a drug overdose -- she became very troubled later in life, while Ricci and Hoffman seem to have mostly avoided the "child star" pitfalls and have their shit together. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/osx8ntqoqdmaoHU.html
@gmann62692 жыл бұрын
@@RebeccaStropoli Ashleigh did her interview solo which probably made all the difference. It's a bit harsh to call them entitled little shits, I don't think they're being particularly disrespectful but Ricci has said she hated doing interviews as a teenager and said some stupid sarcastic things which up ended in print such as "I think incest is totally natural", which she lived to regret. Ashleigh I recently read a little bit about (something on a website written by someone who knew her) and it sounds like she got very messed up. Quite tragic.
