can you talk about your experience with hoarding? even though i have clothes that i’m unsure about and would like to donate, i think that they could be useful for a potential outfit (but then i never end up wearing it!!) 😓 the clutter is unreal bc i have this mindset!

I hear you! I would store them for now - it sounds like it’s feeling too overwhelming to declutter them and the pressure to let go might be from a “should”, not because you want to yet! But def I can!

It might be useful to think of the people you could help by donating or selling your clothes and other items. You can also think of the extra space you will enjoy and the peace it brings.

Perhaps try combining one or two pieces at a time w/ what you already have & like to wear & see how you feel - sort of like a trial run . If they don't feel good , " bless & release " - donate for others to enjoy . One step , one piece ,at a time so there's no self-imposed pressure . Bring joy to yourself & give joy to others .💗

@@cynthiajohnston424 that's actually what I'm doing now and it's the best method i've found. I keep a box in the hallway and anything that doesn't work goes in there, it's a longer process but my anxiety has halved as I feel more sure about what I'm decluttering.

Started watching you at the beginning of Covid. I'm 63, but absolutely love your content. You've helped me SOOOOOOO much, I can't thank you enough. I was very much like you, in terms of shopping. I've now sold/donated about 250 pieces of clothing. Working on my winter coats now...I'm in Nova Scotia, and have recognized that my heavy cloth coats just don't work here. I'm keeping my 5 trench coats and will layer instead. I can't express in words how glad I am that I found you. PS I'm a 'puke' (Polish/Ukrainian), extra love to ya. XOXO

I use a ton of the tips you shared! Like using the same color of velvet hangers for all of my hanging clothes, putting sweaters that shouldn’t be hung in a drawer, folding my clothes in a particular way, using under-bed storage for clothes I’m not actively using but may still want to keep, using vertical space, etc. Great tips!

I’m a very senior citizen who dislikes a messy closet. Some years ago I stumbled on how to identify my freshly laundered clothes from those I’d worn a little but didn’t need to go to the laundry basket. When I wear something that can go back in the closet for another day, I put the hanger backwards on the rod Iike you do for identifying unworn pieces.

Great video! If I’m having a hard time decluttering an item of clothing because I think I still like it, I’ll ask myself, “If I had the opportunity to wear this, would I reach for something else instead?” It’s helped me get rid of the least favorite of my white t-shirts and a pair of jeans that wasn’t the most flattering option.

I saw a way to organize jeans on MakeupByTiffanyB: She was a very generous storage area and uses metal pants hangers from Amazon to store her jeans. Similar to the method that Christina uses for her clothes, Tiffany can see what she’s got. She hung her jeans from longest to shortest and also from dark to light. If you have a lot of jeans it is easy to pick out what you’re looking for. This method could still be used with less space…depending on how many pair of jeans you had and needed. I love organization videos ❤

I just found you a short while back but you've been an incredible support while I commit to making time to wade through my own mess. I literally just de-cluttered a top dresser drawer and part of the bathroom rack. I also share with my spouse. Poor generous guy is donating most of the closet and dresser real estate to me. I'd love to get it more fair. Can you do a video on impulse holiday spending perhaps beyond just clothes. What do you do when people invite you to costume/theme parties etc? And how much pumpkin spice and mint chocolate do we need just because it's the season?

Your tips are very helpful, especially for someone like me not being a minimalist but loving to have structure and mindful organization at home. I am trying to find a system that really works for me. I tried sorting by color and while it looks VERY pleasing, it just didn't work for me at all. I have pieces in the same colors but they all do have different functions. So I thought, sorting by function might make more sense to me. E.g. things that are meant to be worn on top of something else and within that sorted by texture and weight (light pieces to heavy pieces, basically sorted by the temperature you would wear them for). I do have long flowy cardigans to throw over a nice summer outfit, they are very sheer and insanely light weight, they just act as a visual piece or a bit of extra protection when the sun shines really bright, but don't get you all sweaty or keep you warm in the cold, but I do also have cardigans that are heavy knitware which I like to wear during fall and winter. In between: I love slightly heavier button up shirts, the more casual ones. I love to wear them over a simple shirt, maybe add a nice jacket on top and give it a more edgy look overall. Those pieces might go right in the middle coz I could wear them in any season depending on the weather (summer days are not always nicely warm here). I do have a small space to keep all my formal clothing because I am more like "Oh, I got invited to a wedding, let's see what I would like to wear for that", and then opening up a seperate hanging space that reveals only clothes for such occasions makes it easier for me to actually figure out an appropriate outfit. I also sort my shoes by function and style. Nice high heels by color and shape, heavier boots by color and amount of details (some are simple and very neutral in style, others are very edgy and have buckles, studs or engravings that make them look special but also not suit every occasion or outfit), stuff like that. I also have a row in my shelf that is only for functional shoes (trainers, hiking boots, working boots etc.). Organizing shoes to me is VERY easy. Organizing my clothes though... especially the smaller pieces, feels like a mystery puzzle I couldn't solve yet. Your video really has given me great input to reconsider and then finetune my organization. Thank you for all the thought and mindfulness you put into this video.

A lovely video, Christina - thank you! I'm downsizing to a much smaller flat from a house very soon and I'm going to be in a single wardrobe (much smaller than yours) and a chest of drawers, so it's going to be a mammoth challenge to downsize my clothing to fit the available space. I've worked out I will probably have room for a couple of blazers, a denim jacket, a winter coat and a wardrobe of about 50 items (I'm tee shirt and pencil skirt kinda girl). Wish me luck. With the wishlist idea, I would like to stay off online shopping so the list can also become more of a personal need list and not a influence/marketed list. Or make it a "what I would ask for as a gift" list. I saw one of your other videos that you havea purse buget. Maybe just have a smallwishlist for that. I really like the idea of going back to pre corona and only go get or spludrge on 1 thing once in a while and sometimes you can get it as a gift because you spend less often on less things. I need one or two wool sweaters for winter and I just started a new hobby:miniature painting. So I have that to look forward to in my week. Also something like barista oat milk for in my coffee that I buy now as a gift to myself weekly within my grocery buget make me very happy and keep me satisfied and away from emotional spending.

Wish lists are a good idea. Jewellery can be an issue. I would like a better system. I would like some decent hangers. I do find that many of the videos I watch have clothes that are very generic with minimal colour. Sort of like a uniform. I wore uniforms for years so I like a little bit of fun! I have a little touch of boho in my style so dark pants and button downs can get a bit monotonous! Even though I like them! But sometimes you gotta have some fun! Good hints. For real. OCD singlehandedly prevents me from sleeping many nights (see also: makes me absolutely miserable), prevents me from doing everyday tasks (and most people think the opposite: that it makes you more organized or driven to do things), and overall is a debilitating disorder that I have to live with. It does not have any benefits (for me). It just sucks.

Sorry I'm late to this party and I'm not trying to be rude but some people don't have diagnosed OCD exclusively but do suffer from many of the symptoms. For example, people with autism/asperger's and ADHD. Basically since it's common to suffer from repetitive and obsessive habits with their other diagnosis it's not diagnosed independently. With ADHD it tends to fluctuate depending on moods. Not sure of I'm making sense? It's 11pm where I am now. I agree that being particular or being abit of a perfectionist isn't the same as OCD but I worry sometimes when people say this they may actually be having an "OCD moment" but other people are judging without knowing fully whether or not that person does suffer from it. I think sometimes we can jump to conclusions.

I have the same hangers. But I have short and long sleeve shirts in my closet right now. So I have no extra room between my shirts. My shirts are always wrinkled when I get them out. Once it cools down I’ll only have my long sleeve shirts in my closet. I did go through and get rid of a lot . I made space for my husband to have his clothes in the closet. Instead of piles all over our bedroom. I couldn’t handle that. He now only has a few pairs of shorts on top of his nightstand. So I’m dealing with it. I like things put away. He likes to see everything. I was going to cramp his shorts in one of the other drawers. But I let them on top. I wish I had a closet that looks like yours. Maybe someday soon I will. I have a chest of drawers in the office. It had my sweaters in it. Now I put all my sweaters in a cedar chest at the end of our bed. With lots of other cedar things in too. The chest is an antique and isn’t too cedary anymore.

I have way too much clothes to fit in a closet like yours. I live in Northern BC, Canada and I have lots of coats. Yes I put them in the bin in the summer, but then there is still dresses, skirts, pants, sweaters, blazers, trench costs. I am a hopeless case, I just need a bigger house to turn one room into a closet. Then there is shoes🤷🏽‍♂️

Maybe something else is not as important for you, so you actually can make a room for clothes? Don't know how you live, but if you really want to keep much it is an option for some. We made one room into a walk in closet mixed with a hobby room. We store clothes and thing for our hobbies there. We have a big mirror to dress in front of, and a small desk with a make up mirror with lamps around. So it is possible to sit there and do the make up or sew at a sewing mashine. It looks grest in there. The clothes are behind white draperies. Hope you can vision something that might work for you. 😊

What about dresses, and longs coats ? I’m asking because I mostly see shirts and blasers in your closet but no dresses. And they take a lot of space vertically 😅 Is it ok to fold them ? Because I don’t like how they just hang in there and some are so long they touch the ground

I would hang them vertically! I basically don’t have any dresses in my wardrobe! 😅 I have a cotton tshirt dress that I do fold and steam when I’m gonna wear it.

I'm unsure how to store belts in my closet. I like saving my shoe boxes to store away my less used shoes, and vertical storage is an alternative to under the bed storage for off season clothes.

The problem I have had with folding is the wrinkles. The item has to be ironed or steamed prior to wearing which can be time consuming on a daily basis.

Love your content. Сьогодні подивилась відео з розбором гардеробу з Іванкою. До цього б ніколи не подумала, що ви українка. І у цьому немає нічого хорошого.
