Great vid...I saw the show at TMA and loved it. As well I grew up in Philadelphia and visited the Wyeth museum in Chads Ford occasionally. Wyeth really is one of America's finest painters.

Thank you for talking about Peter Hurd. He was amazing and also Andrew’s brother-in-law. The other things you talking about about Hurd’s belief in egg tempera and landscapes was true. Thank you. Most people brush over Peter Hurd. Though he was amazing in his own right.

You lost an oportunity to show up close details of different pigments and strokes. Still, Andrew is amazing. This work On The Edge is an exemple of perfect color and structure balance

The frame doesn't make justice to the piece.

...doesn't do justice... Maybe it doesn't (best to judge in person), but you do want a simple, somewhat plain frame for egg tempera, as the beauty is in the slow value, hue, and temp. changes across the surface.

agree with some commentators...great video but why did you not show the close ups when describing ? you do have the painting there after all....shame..missed opportunity.

I thought the video might discuss that painting and show details. Wyeth is much admired but this painting has a great many weaknesses, including its composition, artificiality, and reliance upon his contrived and formulaic rendition of "loneliness" (a theme quite worked to death by Edward Hopper and others). Thankfully, Wyeth has done much better paintings. Still, the creation of weak paintings like this one tends to call a lot into question.

interesting observation....the great thing about art is that each viewer brings something different to a painting. for me this is sublime, i am not sure why and I do not analyse, I just look and feel. interested to know what Wyeths move you more? .. Helga series perhaps?
