The identity of the "man of sin, son of perdition" (2 Thes. 2:3-4) shouldn't be that difficult to understand, as long as we know the prophetic timeline given in Dan. 2 and 7. Doug Wilson touched on the truth of the interpretation of the "man of sin, son of perdition," but he then rejected the truth with his nonsense. It is also the same entity as the "sea beast" (Rev. 13:1-10), and the "scarlet harlot" (Rev. 17). Christians should be united on this. If there are any Christians who do NOT agree that all these depictions are the same entity, then we will need to address that. 2). Dan. 2 and 7 give us a prophetic timeline of events to occur from Daniel's time, all the way up to the 2nd Advent of Christ and beyond. Dan. 7 is the same prophetic timeline as Dan. 2; however, in Dan. 7, we see the first mention of that which Christians have referred to as, "The Antichrist". Though this entity is not called, "the antichrist" in Dan. 7; rather, it is referred to as, the "little horn". It continues for "a time, times, and half a time". This is arguably the most important time-specific prophecy in all of Scripture. It is mentioned 7 TIMES in Scripture: twice in the book of Daniel, and 5 TIMES in the book of Revelation (Rev. 11:2, 3; 12:6, 14; Rev. 13:5). Preterists view this as a LITERAL 3.5 years (1,260 days/42 months/"time, times, half a time"), and claim this occurred in the distant past, and has to do with the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 A.D. Futurists view this as a LITERAL 3.5 years, and claim that this time prophecy has yet to be fulfilled. Both Preterism and Futurism can be traced back to the "Counter-Reformation," led by the Jesuits (Militant, Papal defenders). The Jesuit scholar, Luis de Alcasar was the first systematizer of the Preterist school of prophetic interpretation. The Jesuit scholar, Francisco Ribera (later followed by Robert Bellarmine, S.J.) was the first systematizer of the Futurist school. The Reformers were teaching the CORRECT method of interpretation regarding God's prophetic Word: Historicism. They were also correct in their identification of the Antichrist. Historicism teaches that the 1,260 days/42 months/"time, times, half a time" are to be interpreted using the day=year principle (cf. Num. 14:34, and Eze. 4:6 for biblical precedent in using the day=year principle). That is, the Antichrist rose to power shortly after the time of the Fall of the Roman Empire in 476 A.D. The Antichrist gained in power and ruled for 1,260 literal YEARS before receiving a "deadly wound" in the latter part of the 18th century. The "deadly wound" has been healing ever since (cf. Rev. 13:1-10). Now, the "earth beast" (Rev. 13:11-17) holds sway over the world, and will eventually enforce, BY LAW, the "mark" of the "sea beast/Antichrist". Thus, Gentry's view combined with Doug's teaching promotes full preterism. And they wonder why full preterism continued to grow! They are promoting full preterism whether they understand it or not.

Every interpretation of this text makes lots of assumptions. Sort of necessary without more specific details in the text.

Some theological perspectives insist that had to be for their system to work out, but there’s really no evidence to suggest that the traditional date of mid to late 90s is wrong.

That's a good question! The timeline that makes the most sense to me is that after the "Thousand-Year" rain, Satan is Unbound for a short time. (Revelation 20:3). During this final dust-up when he deceives the nation's one last time, that man of sin is revealed (Revelation 20:7 and following). The man of sin is not to be confused with the beast or the false prophet in Revelation, which refer to the wicked Roman Empire and its leaders during the time of the destruction of Jerusalem and the judaic system that rejected Jesus as the Messiah

Yes, I just do not see Post-mil in the Bible. I have looked at all of the eschatological beliefs, but when I sit down and read the Word, Pre-mil is the only one that seems ro be consistent with the scriptures.

The "man of sin" is said to continue for 1,260 literal YEARS before receiving its deadly wound (Rev. 13:1-10), which has since been healing. 3). The "man f sin" is the SAME ENTITY as the "Antichrist" (1 Jn. 2:18), the "little horn" (Dan. 7), the "sea beast" (Rev. 13:1-10), and the "scarlet harlot" (Rev. 17). Doug doesn't think these are all the same entity; he's obviously wrong.

This is what is known as full-preterism or hyper-preterism and IS BLATANTLY FALSE. We are not living in the new heavens and new earth, and Jesus has not yet come (the final coming/return). We are still waiting for this. We do not have glorified bodies and this is NOT the eternal state. Stop with the nonsense. I think that partial-preterism is more balanced and scriptural. But like Doug said he wasn't going to be dogmatic about it, and neither am I. So much false teaching about these "end times" just baffles one's mind. I see problems with every school of thought, but I definitely reject your view as well as all futuristic ones.

The temple or naos is us, the first beast is Ancient Rome and the image of the beast is the RCC. And the popes thought and still think they are God, the Vicar of Christ. Pope John Paul II said “come to me and not to God.” Pope Francis said “It is dangerous to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.” Many popes have declared that they are as if God himself in the earth and they judge all and cannot be judged by none. Or all people are subjected to his authority and he alone is the the interpreter of the Holy Scriptures. It is a matter of seeking the truth, who is Christ and then the Holy Ghost, the true vicar of Christ, will lead you into all promises and the understanding of them. The Holy Ghost will also reveal what is wicked and the works of them that did and do not received the love of God.
