Oh my! Willa: "... and then in one day we're going to go home to Germany." ♥ I''m so going to miss your German and European vlogs, yet I'm also excited about watching you and your little ones exploring Japan. Loved that today, on the 1st of Advent, you brought some Christmas market vibes. Looking forward to the next video when Willa is about to join St. Martins celebrations. It's a very special moment, a truly beautiful sight, when each year hundreds of children with their lanterns gather in front of the cathedral here in Erfurt on that day. Wishing you all the best and sending much ♥.

"k.u.k." is not a name, it means "kaiserlich und königlich" and you can find this word on many old traditional restaurants and bakerys in Austria - it means, that it has been founded many years ago when we had an emperor. :-) So happy to see a vlog from you in my hometown Vienna!

"K.u.k (=Kaiserlicher und königlicher) Hoflieferant" translates to "Supplier to the imperial and royal court".
@berlindude75
@berlindude75 6 ай бұрын
kaiserlich = imperial königlich = royal This referred back to the Dual Monarchy Austria-Hungary (1867 - 1918), Austria being the imperial title and autonomous Hungary being the royal title. Both were held in personal and later real union by the Habsburg emperor (Kaiser).

The Natural History Museum is one of my favorite museums in Vienna, it is so big and there are always new things to discover. It's unbelievable how much Willa has grown again, always impressed by how interested she is in everything. You're doing really well.

@@OurStorytoTell In summer in Germany and Austria you actually only do two different things: 1. Go swimming (outdoor pools or lakes): Every small town actually has at least 1 outdoor pool, big cities have several (Vienna, for example, has 3 indoor pools (cold months), 10 outdoor pools (warm months) and 9 combination pools which are open all year round - and these are just the pools owned by the city of Vienna, private pools like the Therme Wien are not even included). In Bavaria there are quite a few "thermal baths" (Therme Erding, Bad Gögging, Amberg...) and fun baths ("Palm Beach" in Nuremberg) There are many lakes in the Alps that are perfect for swimming in the hot summer season. But there are also some bathing lakes far away from the Alps. In Bavaria, for example, the Großer Brombachsee with some beaches; or the lakes around Schwandorf; small bathing lakes such as the Pfraudorfer See. There are also many lakes in Meklenburg-Western Pomerania. Swimming in the Danube is also very popular in Vienna (not everywhere but in certain places, for example in the arm of the "old Danube"). 2. go to festivals (public festivals, i.e. no entry fee). Vienna: Danube Island Festival "Donauinselfest"), Festival at Rathausplatz (Films & Food) Munich: Tollwood (summer Tollwood, not winter Tollwood), Theatron and city parks Nuremberg: “Bardentreffen” Small towns: “Altstadtfest” for example in Amberg, Hersbruck, Neumarkt... of course you can combine: swimming and chilling during the day and food, fun and music in the evening.

"k.u.k" is an acronym and stands for "kaiserlich und königlich" = literally "Imperial and Royal" ...Shops/deliverers who were privilegded to deliver their goods or their services either to the Royal Court (= well not very likely for shops in Linz because the Royal Court is in Vienna) OR delivered their goods and services to local resided members of the royal family (= that happened in Linz) also got the priviledge to have that "Imperial + Royal" label. Well that building you called "National Llibery" is actually a part of the Royal Court Complex and actually named "Neue Burg" (= literally "New Castle" and is an attachment from the 19th century to the way older Royal Court buildings = the oldest are from the 13th century) the National Libery is just imbedded in there (basically in there is a huge richly ornamented room full with antique books and scripts and documents, which used to be the private Libery room of the Emperor ) - besides of many other richly ornamented rooms which have nothing to do with the Library in that particular shown building but are parts of different kinds of museums inbedded in there as well. Unfortunately you missed to try out the most famous Viennese street food sausage called Käsekrainer. It is a kind of grilled Bratwurst but different flavoured than a "regular Bratwurst" and is additionally filled with cheese available at every sausage booth.

For everyone else who might visit Vienna for Christmas markets: check out the one at Karlsplatz, Schönbrunn, Belvedere, and Freyung. If you want to get out of Vienna but not too far, Baden, Bad Vöslau, Kottingbrunn and Leobersdorf have quite nice ones as well, especially for kids (the 3 latter ones). They are obviously much smaller but some with some nice activities for kids and there are of course fewer people...mostly.

Neni is that special? I thought it was just the house restaurant of the 25 Hrs hotel chain. At the Naschmarkt there are so many restaurants, Middle Eastern (Jewish, Syrian...) and others, I'd just pick one. Naschmarkt is like a three block long food court. If it smells good, there are people eating there, and there are enough seats for you: just hit it up. Last time I was at the Naschmarkt, I just wanted a quick snack and ended up buying €20 worth of baklava. The saleslady told me "it'll last 2 weeks." I grinned and answered: "No it won't!"

By the way k.u.k. is not "cook" . It is a title of excellence, given by the reigning nobles as chosen businesses, beeing good enough to serve as "kögliche und kaiserliche" Lieferanten ( only allowed delivering businesses to the house of King and Kaiser, (who is a kind boss of king for all kingdoms, which were Austria, Hungry, Serbia, Bohemia and i don`t know what else) That was such very important privilege, that it is in use still today, although every nobility is illegal and forbidden in the modern Austria after ww1.
