What a brilliantly witty cutting line. He could muster lines like that unlike anyone else... His brother is an intellectual midget compared to Hitch.

avedic they're both smart, or at least well cultured.. Of course Christopher is beyond him due to his refusal to be politically correct and go his own way. Perhaps not an intelligence difference, but certainly more headstrong and concise. Edit: silly phone and its auto grammar mistakes.

Good christ, that woman is actually moaning with longing, and blinded by the stars in her eyes, starting around 29:39 especially. I have no self-control with that sort of thing; doubt I would have even attempted to turn her away. Notice the video editor cuts at 30:08, just as it looks like she's about to pounce on him. Ian McEwan said of Christopher that you only get a person like him "every hundred years or so," and I can't imagine that that isn't the case. A rare case of the "rock star" writer.

Some people just like to smoke, being hoodwinked has nothing to do with it. Hitch enjoyed smoking and drinking, he lived the bohemian lifestyle, lived strong and hard, and lived for 6 decades. We will all die, tobacco didn't kill him, life did, as it will kill us all.

Probably the only thing that I disagree with Hitch on is his opinion that the Stones are better than The Beatles. Not only are there plenty examples of the Rolling Stones releasing material with a new innovation or style that had already been done by The Beatles the previous year or so, but The Beatles even wrote the Stones' first big hit (That's not to say that I dislike the Rolling Stones, they are great). Hitchens also regularly said, in his books and in interviews that his knowledge of music was exceptionally poor and even attributed this to why he never was or became a fiction writer due to believing that a great understanding of music was essential for great fiction writing. On every other point he has made - that I've seen, read or heard - I've agreed with him.

@TheGroucho669 жыл бұрын
N. Presley Gimme Shelter is a fucking great song. But I am afraid The Beatles made Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Pepper. What I find amusing however is that throughout Hitch 22, his other books, interviews and the like where he mentions a song, I nearly always incorrectly names the song. lol. I used to do that when I was younger so that my favourite songs felt more like my own.

"Not Fade Away" and "Gimme Shelter" are Stones songs...did you not click the video time I conveniently included right in the comment to which you responded? =[ If you had, you would've heard Hitch gushing about those two songs and explaining that "John and Paul would never have accomplished that". So yes, it's safe to say that Hitch listened to the Stones...And that he preferred them over the Beatles. Sure he mixed up the lyrics at first, but he got them right just before the end of the shot. =]

To the best of my knowledge, the death of the body (and simultaneously the brain) will be comparable to eneterning a state similar to that induced by a general anesthetic. Hitch was right about religion, of course, and did a great job about criticizing it. However when you see his hostility toward Clinton because of a blowjob, some unproven rape allegations, and blowing up the odd factory compared to giving Bush a free pass on killing over 100k people in Iraq, you have to say that sadly he was one of the most hypocritical commentators around.
@PlayNiceFolks9 жыл бұрын
He went hard after Bush for the way he conducted the war on terrorism. He only supported the intervention and removal of Saddam in Iraq on fairly broad terms. Bush and his buddies fucked up a whole lot along the way, and Christopher pointed out many of these fuck ups, if memory serves.
