This is the last video in our 3 part series on wind tunnel testing. In this video, we discuss what typical plots of wind tunnel data might look like and how to extract relevant information such as stability derivatives and performance data from the results. In addition, we present some things to consider when building a wind tunnel model or executing a wind tunnel test.
Topics and timestamps:
0:00 - Introduction
7:23 - Coefficient of Lift, CL
35:13 - Coefficient of Drag, CD
46:17 - Coefficient of Sideforce, CY
53:40 - Coefficient of pitching moment, CM
1:09:10 - Coefficient of rolling moment, Cl
1:18:26 - Coefficient of yawing moment, CN
1:25:28 - Aerodynamic forces/moments in body frame
1:37:27 - Model construction considerations
1:41:28 - Test execution considerations

Jason-AE512: This video offers a thorough analysis of how wind tunnel data is interpreted and utilized in testing. The detailed discussion on interpreting aerodynamic forces and moments and the considerations for test planning are particularly valuable for researchers and practitioners.

AE 512: Very helpful video, I have always been pretty confused on how to interpret changes to the aero coefficients in terms of physcial orientations/actions of the aircraft and this made it super intuitive. Thanks!

The breakdown of the coefficients was extremely helpful, and the list of considerations provided at the end is invaluable! I feel like the final lists are a lot of considerations you don't learn until you've been through the process a couple times and the heads up is very much appreciated. Thank you very much for the video!

Ben, great to hear from you again. I'm glad this was useful. Out of curiosity, are you involved with wind tunnel testing or aircraft performance in some fashion?

Aircraft performance to an extent. I'm currently a graduate student focusing on fixed-wing aircraft control. Not having had an aerospace background in undergrad I'm working to build that foundational knowledge.

AA 516 - I watched all the wind tunnel series last year during my junior year and I remember being so grateful for these videos because it helped me a lot during my data analysis for lab reports.Even though we did not have to go this much in detail, it was nice knowing the background behind all of it. Thank you for the great series of wind tunnel test!

Manita, awesome, I'm glad they are helpful. Out of curiosity, when you were a junior did you just watch them for fun (and how did you even discover them)? I'm mostly curious to see if these videos get visibility outside of UW classes/circles.

@@ChristopherLum Because of Pandemic our lab were virtual so we didn't get a chance to be at wind tunnel or do any testing, and I didn't have any prior experience. So I decided to do some research and your video came up first when I searched for wind tunnel test in KZfaq.

Great video!!. I go through Wind Tunnel Data Analysis and 6 DOF Dynamic Model of an Aircraft: RCAM .......in Step - 5 Step : Non-dimensional aerodynamic moment coefficients about AC in Fb............... If I compare them, RCAM used p q and r rate [roll pitch and yaw rate] coefficients about an aircraft in Aircraft Dynamic Model .............so , How one can get those coefficient values using wind tunnel test ??? I appreciate everything you've taught me .......Thank You!!!!!

Around 29mins should the red curve end point go up since if you losing negative lift it is more positive? Super good video series in any case.
