Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens , GBB rehouse, a new method to try
Today we are going to rehouse our GBB after a second failure of an egg sac from this spider, we are going to keep her more like our chilobrachys so instead of a dry environment we are going to increase the humidity to around 70 % change the substrate to potting compost and beastie mix and see if she settles any better.
Watch for the full story behind this new venture .

Yay! A new Beastie Room video! Love, love, love it! I never thought about a spider’s emotions before but she really did come across as unhappy. She laid those eggs and it seemed like she was fretting over them. I could almost hear her saying, “ this just won’t do. Not a good place for babies.” I think she will be a lot happier in her new enclosure. I am excited to see her story unfold. Thanks Dave and Camera Lady. I hope you all have a lovely end to your week!🙂

great vid..... my female did EXACTLY THE SAME with the little eggs in January... she ate them the very same day... never knew what happened... but two month later (just a few weeks ago) she molted and maybe, just maybe, that was the cause.... maybe she was thinking "if I molt I can not take care of the eggs so I better ate them" ....... this hobbie is hard with so little information for most species.

I kept my first one bone dry w/ a water bowl, and she never seemed to do well. She would hang out around that moist corner. Then we had blizzards and power outages last year in Texas, and she had a bad molt some time later, and didn't make it. I kept my 3 slings dry, but noticed when I'd moisten a corner, they would hang out there (just like my AF). So, I bought 3 more slings, set them up with a sand drainage layer. I put down some screen, and then some normal soil, and they didn't like that the soil would feel damp. So, I topped the soil with some piece of slate, and they are bigger now then my first 3 slings (they 6 months younger). This got me thinking 🤔. So I looked up weather data for where they're from, and it is bone dry; like proper desert: sand dunes, cactuses, etc. However, it's a peninsula in the Caribbean, so it's got like 90% humidity most of the year. When I rehoused my first 3 slings, I set them up in a humid enclosure (w/ dry substrate), and they are more active and healthy looking now. So all 6 are doing much better with a humid enclosure, than when I was keeping them bone dry.

Right now, the volume is all over the place, from vid to vid, and when coming from just about any other channel, the audio problems just really stand out. Again, absolutely no shade, I adore you. Shoot me a msg and I’ll have Amazon send you one directly! Love you!

Dave, by profession, I'm a theatrical lighting designer and stage manager. I've worked as a deck electrician, front light operator and computer lighting control operator. I've also worked as a sound assistant. If this marvelous person wants to gift you a body mic, smile nicely, and say "Yes, thank you!" I'm pretty sure that you have a PO box, since you've told us that you're going to be selling merch soon. Thus, you won't have to go out on a limb by giving a complete stranger your home address. A decent mic will take your videos to the next level. As you said in this video (in different words), No balls, no blue chips!! 💚🍾💙✨🕷️🕸️✨

That was truly fascinating. As humans, we tend to cringe, but eating her eggs makes sense as a way of protecting herself if she was insecure. She stayed strong so she could lay eggs later in a time of greater secrity and thus, a greater chance for both mom and babies to thrive. Without watching what you have presented on your channel, I never would have thought this way. Thank you! Besides, Dave is such a great name .... My husband of 45 years is David! I’m getting my first GBB tomorrow so I’ve been looking up traditional methods and watching as many videos as I can to get a reference on how to properly house them, this video was by far the most helpful, for the humidity issue while keeping the substrate dry I am setting my enclosure up like you would with a bio-active enclosure, clay balls on the bottom with a screen on top for irrigation in hopes that if I water one section of the enclosure/ occasionally overflow the water dish the excess water will seep through the clay balls and add humidity more evenly throughout the entire enclosure. It makes sense that since they’re from the Paraguaná Peninsula they would require at least 60% humidity for the low end to 75% humidity which is the annual average to be comfortable instead of an arid 25-30% humidity. I wonder why there is so much content on GBB’s suggesting they should be kept in an arid environment, thanks for this video

I don't know if You know the Tarantula Book by Peter Klaas, but He shows some Pictures of the Environment and a GBB in the Crack of a Stem. He found them often living like this. Inside there it would be 10-20% higher Humidity than on the Outside. So Chances are good it will turn out well this Time ( hopefully for the Guy too😉). Fingers crossed. 🤞🤞

It’s such a shame she felt she could not wrap her eggs in a sack. But it was almost as if she would sooner eat her eggs than not be able to protect them in a proper sack. I do hope she feels happier in her new home. It’s a testament of your care and dedication to your spiders that you are willing to try and make her happy and feel secure so that future pairings result in a successful egg sack. I'll keep my fingers crossed she likes the new enclosure more and has babies. I am curious about the humidity thing as my first tarantula was a GBB but it died a few weeks after I got her which I put down to the humidity being too high and I was always told arrid conditions, I think my issue was not enough ventilation.

Following earlier advice I have kept my GB bone dry so far, apart from a filled waterdish, but I was not satisfied because she did not do much webbing, did not have a great feeding response and stayed hidden in her burrow almost all of the time. She did have a successful molt four weeks ago. Seeing this new video I sprayed some water on the webbing around the burrow and my GBB almost immediately came out to drink the water droplets. She even left her safe burrow for a walk around and found the waterdish, perhaps for the first time, from which she drank a lot of water. I hope she will be more on display from now on, do more webbing and eat more crickets. I think I’ll spray some water once a week and see if this will keep her happy. Thanks a lot for your new video, always a pleasure to watch.

I really enjoy your videos though I do have some constructive criticism for you. A small investment in video and especially AUDIO would send your videos to a whole new level. You dont need to spend a crazy amount either just some entry level stuff.

@@vickiezaccardo1711 firstly I never said the videos were bad or the 'camera work' is poor. As someone who cares for the channel I was offering CONSTRUCTIVE criticism which is important for anyone to grow. You can both enjoy what you're watching while also offering advice on how to make it even better. Better lighting, an understand of how to utilize it and audio to match would, as I alluded to previously, bring this channel to an entirely new level.

After seeing you house your gbb with beardie life I rehoused mine the same way few months later she went into pre moult during the moult she died half way through the moult process, I think it was due to the dry substrate and arid condition of the tank.it was a shame as she was of a good age and lovely condition. But I feel looking back she was more happy in the dryish soil mix with a good size water dish. Loved the video and I’m glad I came to the same conclusion as you.

Feel sad and sorry for her. She looks so tired. You can understand why she eat her eggs rather than have a predator eat them. In a wild situation, bless her she doesn’t know that she is in captivity. I hope she goes on to have another try.

Hey Dave! Again, sorry for the late comment man, i`ve been busy and if i`m being honest, this is the first time i log onto my laptop in about 3 days, i follow 54 ( i think ) KZfaq Channels and my laptop absolutely blew up with notifications, 30+ notifications, replies, videos, community posts, you name it, it was in my notifications bell. Great video Dave! Yeah, it`s probably time to start something new if she`s eaten 2 egg sacs, she probably wasn`t too comfortable. That was my first time seeing tarantula eggs in their first stage if you like, i`ve never seen them before they`re in the eggsac. So cool to see Dave!! Perfect balance of education and entertainment again Dave! Man, you`re good. I refuse to believe that you haven`t taught in a school before/don`t have teaching experience. Just before i close this off, this is one of my favourite species of tarantula and probably spiders and inverts as a whole! Very beautiful, as slings and adults, wouldn`t you agree Dave? Excellent job as usual Camera Lady! Stop whispering woman! Everyone here loves you!! Hell, you`re probably more famous than Dave at this point. PS Dave: Still waiting for your fish video s well as the frogs... HEHEHEHEHAHAHA. Reply if you like Dave, have a good one buddy.

I had a question about this “keep them arid,” thing. (The humidity in Venezuela right this moment, 1am in the “dry season,” is 84%.) Never mind. I think I figured it out. They’re basically the succulents of the tarantula world. 💡 Succulents I understand: Plenty of water, but keep their “feet” dry. It does actually make sense once you get the hang of it. 😄 Thanks. Lovely spider and cool video, as always.

Great video Dave,I keep my AF quite dry just top soil, because the care sheets say they like it arid.ive got anchor points a fake skull cork bark up against it because she likes to climb,on the floor she has webbed the floor and made a roof so she has got a web burrow,I've noticed she stays her web tunnel and also comes out and climbs up on the skull that she has webbed up.she does drink but not very often.im just wondering if some gbbs like it a little moisture and others dont.and that's why I love this hobby u get to experiment different things so your spider feels happy.hopefully yours will be happy in the new set up.
