Trashing our past will do-away our future...
In this video you will see what actually happen a pieces of furniture put out in the street at night time, to be picked by the trash truck the next morning.
I frequently ride my bike on Tuesday's night on a "treasure hunt" for vintage items, furniture, tools, books etc., which people decide they no longer need or want or have place for in their life and homes. I have mixed feeling towards trash night. Though I might find something exiting, like an old Windsor chair or an Arts & Crafts lamp, I am always saddened when I think about all the other items that -- either me or fellow 'dumpster divers' -- haven't seen or couldn't or were not able to save. It is frustrating to noticed a century old furniture that served his many masters silently and faithfully, only to be tossed away in the most arbitrary manner; stripped from its dignity, denied a chance for a second life.... sentenced to oblivion.
Many of these items, if adopted by a loving owner that with a little bit of effort: scribing and cleaning than with caring hand dressing them up with a new coated of finish, will give back to their new parents years upon years of diligent function and esthetic delight .. and of course...a good story to tell their friends and loved one. "Do you know what I found on the street today....."
