My 3 adjustable rusty squares thank you for this video and their new lease on life. 😊 My speed squares will get the same treatment because they’re bare metal with no paint in their groves. 👍

Thank you for posting this as i have just done exactly the same to two folding steel rules that were that bad (rusted up) i struggled to open them. I didn't have 20% acidity vinegar so using ordinary vinegar i left them soaking for 3 hours and now after using 1000 wet and dry i can see all of the markings Thanks again 👍.

I used a cut off tool to make the notches. Found it to be faster than using a cold chisel
@YoavSamuelLiberman2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried it so I am much in the speculation or theory field here but the issue I find with both a cut-off tool or a file is that they remove material from the bar. What we want to do is to deform the edge of the bar by displaying steel from the low areas to high spots and sideways. So I am afraid that the cut of the tool will be a temporary solution as it can not make the high ridges that cold chisel make but rather serrate the bar.
@otway002 жыл бұрын

Well done. The table looks tight, sturdy and stable. Wonder what kind of wood was used, and what wood types would she suggest to look for in order to keep the table as light in weight as possible. Love the fact that the top surface can easily be replaced with new. Almost hate to fold it away. It should be out to be displayed. Kudos to Jackie!

Just don't actually use this rule for anything. It's a shrink rule, used to make foundry patterns. Patterns are oversized to make up for cast metals shrinking as they cool. This ruler is 3/16ths of an inch longer per foot of length, so it might be a bit frustrating to use.
@ericcommarato77274 жыл бұрын
I was going to reiterate this as well, this rule is really useless...unless your doing foundry work.

I have one of these however rebranded as Faithful and I cannot get the blade to adjust below the sole so doesnt cut anything or am I missing a trick? As it is a recent purchase I have emailed Faithful and am awaiting a reply.
@YoavSamuelLiberman5 жыл бұрын
Check the nut. See if something is limiting its travel down the screw. If it rides up and down without issues and the nut's wide shoulder ring fits into the blade's groove well, then I think you should be able to project and retrieve the blade with no issues.
@tymbian5 жыл бұрын
@@YoavSamuelLiberman thankyou for your reply. I can turn the adjuster without issue. It seems like the angle of the slope means the blade closes the hole (throat?) Before the blade protrudes.
