I have a 2013 1300 classic and love it, low maintenance and will do everything a Harley will do without the breakdowns, i would have bought a new one if they still made them

I own a 2016 V Star 1300 Tourer. I bought it with .2 miles on it 20 September 2016. It is a couple hundred miles shy of 56,000 miles now. In that time, I've had an unexpected repair bill one time for $7 for the front sealed wheel bearings. I've had that all over North America and gotten at least 53 miles to the gallon on more than on occasion when Yamaha rates it only at 42 MPG. Very respectable. The most mileage I've gotten out of a single tank was 229.4 miles. It gets better mileage in the mountains, and a little worse in the flat near the east coast where I typically ride. There are tow hitches available for hit from US Hitch that bolt on pretty easy. IF you put on a tow hitch, make sure you set the suspension away from the softer side to make sure you have enough clearance for the rear tire. Easy to wire for a tow harness, about an hour long job. Parts availability is going to be an issue since Yamaha stopped making this already. A good alternative for fasteners is a company called Fastenal. Yamaha says you should do a valve clearance check every 16,000 miles and prices that service for a bit more than 10% of the out the door price of the bike. I haven't done that yet as I still have a quiet motor, good power, and excellent fuel mileage, with no leaks on the motor. If that changes I'll do something different. You can get cruise control for this model from MC Cruise, a good Australian company. All in all, I would buy another one if only Yamaha made it. i bought a camper trailer for mine last week and pick it up in about two weeks. Maneuverability is good. I can turn this around in the basic riders course box with no issue. I find the brakes pretty solid, and that's good since I have drivers around me that seem to have gotten their driver's license as a prize in a cracker jack box. The oil change on this is very nice. The oil filter is very easily accessed up front on the bottom right of the motor, and you can get an oil filter from K&N that has the same size fitting as the drain plug 17 MM to make taking it off easier. Longest day on this bike has been 975 miles. I missed a bit for the Iron Butt ride, and stopped when I decided I was too tired to press on. Pretty comfortable for that long haul.

I have a 2014 1300 Deluxe and moved up from an 1100 Silverado. The change was awesome. The 1300 seems a little bit bigger but also seems more nimble and more balanced. I recently pulled the ECU out and sent it in and had it flashed. It's a totally different animal now and has a ton more power. The flash eliminated the snatchy throttle and it cut out the injector cut out when backing off the throttle.

This video finally "sold" me on this model - after too much research as always. I find the riding position very comfortable (at 188cm) and agree with all the comments in the video. Yes, a six-speed gearbox would be nice, particularly for roundabouts. Top gear is nice and tall so the issue is gear spacing, not final drive. In every other respect I am very happy with what is basically a half-price Harley - and I appreciate the extra smoothness of the engine. Let's face it - with cars, bikes and houses (as well as many other things) people often make decisions based on prestige, not just what is really going to suit them and their budget. Thinking about getting one for touring and long distance. Got a sportster but definitely keeping it alongside it. had a carbed vstar 650 years ago. first cruiser and loved it

I have the 2014 with Vance with Hines and the Power Pak. I take off from lights in 2nd gear. I rarely use 1st gear. I find myself looking for 6th gear. This is the one thing I would have liked. The bike is so agile at slow speeds and very well balanced.

Everything you said in your final statements was right on !! I own a 2003 Vstar 650 classic and it's a very nice beginner's bike but I want longer gears and power and the 1300 has both while looking like a real cruiser. I happen to think the 1300 Vstar is a beautiful modern looking cruiser and if you say its a logical choice and I think its beautiful then it's my next purchase ... .. ..

Thanks for the video. Agree with all your points. Found it grinds the peg a lot in corners About to install 1inch fork tube extensions. Always get positive comments on the looks. Got the Cobra exhaust but normal run stock pipes because this is my daily commuter. Has road presence and cars give you space, especially with the bags on. Modulating the clutch on roundabouts yes. Handles well in the twistes for a big girl. A great commuter and long distance rider. And like you said , it grows on you. With regards to a screen and buffering if you install a back rest you can position yourself into a triangle to solidify your body.

Good review. I’ve got a 2017 Suzuki Boulevard C90T and is very similar to your experience with the V star except for the low speed, mine is nice and smooth and easy to toodle around in 2nd gear. I test rode a couple of Harleys but chose the Boulevard for 1/3 the price and less worry. I’m in Canada so having 30 grand sitting in the garage for 8 months of the year is kind of a waste. I’ve taken it across the USA and back twice now with zero problems and I’m really happy with it.

I’ve got the 2007 v star and absolutely love it. Got ride of my oil leaking paint shaker electra glide after 10 yrs. No coparison to the V Star.

Most beautiful cruiser ever…I bought mine brand new in 2007(it’s first year of existence) my first new bike was the 2002 Honda shadow ACE(another solid and great cruiser). In my avatar you see the vstar 1300 next to my 2020 triumph t120…I love the power, easy ride and maneuverability of the Triumph, but I’ll never give up on my vstar 1300 for those loping long relaxing rides. I’m 66 years old so either one of these bikes are manageable as I get closer to 70 every day😄. You made a great choice buying the unique and competent vstar 1300.

Bought my 1300 way back in mid 08 the bike is an 07 just a bit under 50,000 miles on the clock. Laid it down in 2010 on a mountain road , came out ok no serious damage except to my pride. Bike still very.good.

Re: the jerky throttle. My 2016 Super Tenere had a very jerky throttle even in Tour mode. I had it remapped at ECUwest in Port Kennedy. Now Tour mode is very relaxed. Highly recommend ECUwest.

I own a 1300 V Star and I just love it, my only complaint is the touchy throttle.

Splitting lanes will be even more of a challenge when you put the bags on. I have the same bike and really like it. I've been riding for over 40 years so have a bit of experience myself. It's a good bike.

2015 V star 1300 tourer owner, I purchased it in 2017 still in the crate for $8000 cash which was an excellent deal, it now has 39,000 trouble free miles so far. I'm 5'8(172 centimeters) with a short 29" (73 centimeter) inseam so a lower seat height is a must. My first bike was a 2007 Suzuki C50 boulevard and was a good bike but it was just to busy at highway speeds, in 2019 I went on a 4900 mile (7900 kilometer) road trip on the V star without Issue it purrs at 80mph (130kph) it is also very easy to maintain. I highly recommend upgrading to steel braid front brake lines especially with a passanger. Some riding buddies ask when I'm getting a Harley, I tell them the V star is paid for and doesn't need premium gas 😁

Some days I consider getting a 1300. But then I remember just how well my 950 is serving my needs. Could use more power when I go over the mountain two up and when I’m on the freeway at 65mph plus to smooth thing out. But most of my riding is alone with the bags only an I like it at 55 mph and lower. I’m cuisin’. No hurry. No worry. Actually look around a bit.

I love this bike. I have the v star 950 & it’s everything this bike is except that it’s air cooled & has a little less power & 1 disk brake in the front. Still an amazing bike! I might upgrade to the 1300 in the future. I was gonna buy the 1300 as my first bike but didn’t want to overwhelm myself 😂

I"ve had a soft spot for the Yamaha Roadliner - love the Art Deco look. However; being tall and lanky, I just don't fit it very well. :(

cant argue with any of your points, spot on, especially the first gear around island issue (a little clutch goes a long way) been riding mine for over 4 years, mostly 2 up, never ever let me down. what slipon do you have on? did you need a fuel management? my only gripe is the placement of the oil spyglass....whoever designed where it is, must be a girraffe lol. great review.

I would suggest instead of putting a windscreen on the 1300 you spend a few more dollars and get the v Star 1300 deluxe it comes with a fairing complete with a GPS system and radio I have a 2014 v Star 1300 deluxe and I love it .

I have a 2009 Tourer 1300..... I want to change out the headlight to a round, but, the ignition plate sits on the headlight bucket, so Im not sure what to go with

I own a 2007 1300 tourer it reminds me of my old FLH Harley without the oil leaked and maintenance issues fenders our metal which I like it doesn't have the torque that the Harley has down low but the motor like to Rev it has ample power brakes are good filling the rear Master brake cylinder can be a pain but most maintenance jobs are straightforward affairs I have had the dealer do most of the maintenance on the bike however I did invest in a factory manual and started doing it myself Tire choices are minimal but overall a great experience I could not recommend it any higher too bad they quit making them they are a great bike I was raised on Vintage bikes this is the first new modern motorcycle I have ever owned only regret is that it's not a Harley

I have Yamaha royal star - but he explanation over why choose a Japanese cruiser resonates with me- mostly I want liquid cooled metric - as we are metric beings - 10 fingers and 10 toes / also I live in North west Australia - I can ride year round without overheating - with rideability & agree if yr evolved enough to not be trying to impress anyone than yourself , then yr gonna have many happy miles (sorry Kilometres)

I'm a subscriber. how do i know if a motorcycle has 5,000 miles or 105,000 miles on it since the odometers only have 5 number slots (ex: 99,999 miles maximum readout) ? I'm looking at a 2007 Yamaha VStar with supposedly "01,700 Miles" on it. How do I know that the miles aren't actually 101,700 in reality ? Meaning how do I know the owner didnt reach the 99,999 mile mark then drive it another 1,700 miles, rolling the odometer over once totalling 101,700 miles and trying to pretend like it's 01,700 miles ? Thank you. Anybody knowledgeable please reply soon.

Love my 2008 tourer more than my 21 harley

I do believe this bike makes like 20 more hp than a Sportster 1200, and even more than one of the 114 big twins (of course it has less torque, but who cares it has plenty lol), so I can understand why it would feel quite substantial after coming off of one. I guess that's just what happens when you make a modern engine lol

A great review of the Yamaha V Star 1300. Thank you. I had a V Star 1300 Tour Deluxe for several years and had never any problems with it. The V Star 1300 must be one of the most reliable and fastest Cruiser Bikes out there. Most Harley's could not keep up with it, the short stroke Engine can be revved up for "ever" a speed of 125 miles/h was no issue and a 6th gear is definitely not needed on this Bike. For long term touring I did buy a 2009 Royal Star Tour Deluxe with a V4 Engine and 98 HP, but the V Star 1300 will outrun this Bike in final speed. I now consider of getting a V Star 1300 as a second Bike do to its lower weight, since I am getting older. There is a video that shows what the V Star 1300 can do.
