However, the general consensus is that Reggaeton actually originated in Puerto Rico, where it evolved into Reggaeton as we know it today and gained popularity. Reggaeton was created from reggae. How do did they come up with the name Reggae when Reggae is a name that was created in Jamaica from the name ragga rebel music then changed to Reggae. Clockwork actually to founders of the hip hop style are from the carribean and they said they where influenced be a wide array of musical styles including toasting which is basically a jamaican version of hip hop

@clockwork search up the founding fathers of hip hop and you'll see a lot of them are Jamaicans who emigrated to the States. DJ Kool Herc was a Jamaican migrant and he's been considered as the founding fathers by many. he brought Jamaican sound system culture to the United States which included setting up big speakers in the street with two turn tables where they would mix and cut the music isolating the drum beat and baseline. King tubby and other Dub Reggae were long doing that in Jamaica before hip hop existed. DJ Kool Herc brought that to the Bronx and would have block parties, but finding the crowds weren't really into Jamaican reggae and dub he decided to bring the same Dj styles to funk and disco. this then developed into the break beat when combined with Latin American drum beats which is seen as the origins of Hip Hop. later another thing he brought was toasting which was when Jamaicans would rhythmically rhyme over a dub reggae beat and that later developed into rap. soundclashes and the rewind are also Jamaican. So hip hop dj battles in the middle of the street with their sound systems also had a Jamaican origin.
