Chrysler - LH - The Competitive Edge - The Secrets of Speed (1992)
If anyone questions whether America can be competitive, Chrysler Corporation answers with a resounding "yes".
Compeititon is the very lifeblood of Americas free enterprise system. When the call came to build a sports sedan that was competitive with the best in the world. Chrysler management recognised that its processes had to change. Thus, the job of building and perfecting the team approach became top priority.
The team concept meant bringing together product planners, stylists, manufacturers, finance and marketing people, all working together for the common goal. This move resulted in speeding up the process of design and development of more LH cars. Team members had more control over their jobs, creativity was encouraged and solutions were arrived at more rapidly because of the interfaces between team members.
In this video, engineer team members are interviewed providing first hand reactiond to the team concept, its efficiencies and the intense focus in meeting the goal. The LH car was developed in just 39 months. almost unheard of for an American carmaker.
Emerson Fittipaldi test drives the Eagle Vision and provides his insights and reactions. He sums it up appropriately when he says, "in my profession as a racing driver, teamwork always achieves the best results. I think its great to have a car built with an effort like that, because every team member us responsible for a part of the car. The results are there, beautiful results".
