I have the opposite problem, my eso sphincter won't stay closed so if I eat too much I start regurgitating it along with a bunch of stomach acid. It happens in my sleep sometimes and I end up inhaling stomach acid and having to cough it all out. It usually sets off my gag reflex and I end up puking too.

This happened to my oldest son, back in 1992. He spent 3 months in Texas Children's hospital, where they never did manage to diagnose it. We just knew that he hold down anything, not even water. Finally we moved him to UNM, where he was diagnosed. The doctor there did a modified Gavrilu to correct it.

When I was 11 I had an MS Attack but nobody suspected in 1962. After eating lunch 40 min later so would get woozy from stomach cramps because the lower stomach valve would not easily open. Since I was collapsing at my desk and school asked Mom to take me to see a Dr. We had a terrific clinic that always seemed to have one Dr that graduated last in his class. So after poking my stomach and listening to stomach sounds when it wasn't cramping. So Dr Almostfailed told my mother I just didn't want to go to School. I stopped eating anything but a carton of milk for lunch. I cannot eat mornings until I am awake a few hours so with skipping lunch I was doing pulsed fasting ages ago.

I have become all too familiar with the anatomy of my digestive system! Back in 2012, I had my third surgery to correct a hiatal hernia. This last time, my surgeon came in nearly every day for 26 days, saying, "If we don't get that thing (my stomach) working soon, we may have to cut it out." That was because my stomach had wrapped itself so tightly around my esophagus that it was strangling itself. You have NO IDEA how happy he was when he came into my room one morning and my wife reported that I'd farted earlier.

This is a much more debilitating condition than you'd think. It started happening to my dad 10 years ago, and by 3 years ago when it would be fully seized up, even water would not be able to go down. Eventually, they finally gave him a botox injection to relax the sphincter, and now it's 100% better. One yearly procedure is all it takes.

@@-pyrosef- any food or drink you swallow will make it's way to almost the bottom of esophagus before reaching the stomach, then it stops, and has to come back up. It looked like a violent and extremely unpleasant situation to be in. Nothing helped at all until internal botox injections. I have Achalasia, it is a rare condition so it's nice to see a video about it thanks! I had a Heller myotomy with fundoplication in 2016 and it really helped, before then it got to the stage where I couldn't even get down liquids and I lost alot of weight. It also comes with really painful oesphageal cramps as the nerves malfunction that radiate through my back, chest and ribs. Every now and then I still struggle to eat certain foods like rice and bread especially if I am stressed or rushing but overall I am back to pretty much normal. It is a progressive condition and I have Endoscopies every few years for life but after the operation to cut open my lower oesophageal sphincter things have become so much better and I havent looked back. So far so good. I never had the balloon dilation, glad using a whale bone isn't still a treatment!

May I ask what did you eat when you couldn’t get down liquids, I’m afraid I have this going on with me as I was told I had pharyngitis but it’s been really bad for months I’m going to see an ent in 10 days I’m just really starting to fear food.
@davidpalafox7436
@davidpalafox7436 7 ай бұрын
@@LemywinxxI have it too. I understand your fear all too well. If you suspect this, do tell your doctor as it’s a rather rare condition and the test to confirm is relatively easy. As for the food, sorry to tell you there’s not many options. The way I experienced it, it was progressive. At first it felt like I was eating too fast even if eating normally (because food doesn’t go down as easy as before), all the way to not being able to keep down water. If I may suggest something, try peppermint tea as it relaxes the sphincter and might help a little. So much so that it’s commonly regarded as being bad for acid reflux, but in our case, that’s exactly what you want. Not the reflux, of course, but the relaxation of the sphincter. Also, high-calorie protein shakes and/or meal supplements. You might throw up some of it but honestly, whatever you manage to keep down is a win.

It would leak more if he drank his protein drink or something at night a few times. It wasn’t always a daily thing, since he sometimes was able to wash everything down with gulping some water. Now he sometimes has moments where food will be a bit stuck or slow going down, and it will just seem kind of like he has a bit of a hiccup or burp, but then it will go down. He can actually eat pretty much anything he wants now, but with surgery it was liquids only for 2 weeks which sucked. Some have it way worse though. Not sure what others experiences are.

There's a cramping feeling and if you ignore it or try and get it down with a drink you can stimulate your gag reflex. You don't want that to happen when you have a tube filled with food and drinks. What's the opposite of achalasia? Because I think I have it based on how often stomach acid escapes when I exercise, so household chores. It can be quite debilitating at times. I'm already taking lansoprazole to control general acid reflux.

I have this, was diagnosed and had surgery 6 years ago. I can eat normally again, but it never goes back to 100% normal function. If you think you might have this, you don't. Trust me, if you had it, you'd know.

I remember a Mystery Diagnosis episode like this where this lady had esophageal spasms that felt like heart attacks and couldn't eat anymore, and it turned out to be something like this and her doctor initially diagnosed her with subconscious bulimia despite her being in distress and being very concerned why she can't keep anything down smh

A friend of mine destroyed this one by drinking too much alcohol over a way too long time. I mean real alcohol, like Absynth and co. Now, he has to sleep sitting upright, he can't eat any spiced food, even pepper gives him trouble, only water, nothing with carbon in it.... it's hell for him.

I got surgery for this twice but it still came back. I've gotten used to the pain from swallowing and I have to drink close to a liter per meal but the cramps is something I'll never get used to. It feels like a heart attack.
