@@PauloPereira-jj4jv music is an artform, a basic theory not anything fundamentally set in stone. It's a matter of perspective, taking also in considerations the times chuck berry lived which did not favor black or latinos at the time so critics and tv moguls to decide on these terms for the public to absorb, consume and buy, and decide on like who is who in the music world. I personally prefer the guitar style and lyric creativism of chuck berry over elvis any day. And like many others consider him the king of rock and roll, and others believe it is little richard which is considered "the originator" and architect of rock and roll. The media has a way to brainwash so I read history to absolve myself from these ideas or norms serve to the public again to absorb consume and buy techniques.

I was on the same show as Chuck Berry at The Agincourt Ballroom in Camberley Surrey 1966-67. It was a bit awe inspiring, we did alot of his material in those days as many bands did. I asked him what his song list for that show, so that we didn't do any of them and clash. He said " you just go right on ahead, you play whatever you like, I just love to hear other peoples versions of my songs". Such a humble response !

Peak America, at least in the modern day, is “people” like you looking for things to get offended over. Rockstars of the time sang about teenagers because that was the target demographic for rock music. No older people were listening or buying records, it was the kids.

I am incredibly blessed to have played live with Chuck Berry in a backup band for him at a show in Columbus Ohio, it was terrifying as a young man, Chuck arrived and didn't even let us know which songs we were playing! Thankfully we heard the guitar chords of "Maybelline" and we all just fell into sync for the next 45 minutes as pure bliss in a musical heaven on stage in front of 5,000 people. What he said to me at the end as he was leaving the venue was worth its weight in gold "You did good, gotta go kid."

Though 65 years ago, I had the pleasure of personally meeting Mr. Berry shaking hands as he passed by after one of his performances in San Antonio, TX, 1957, where I was stationed in the Air Force. I still remember the sweat dripping down his face yet he stopped walking to ask how I was doing and if he had performed well. I was spellbound. The man was beyond awesome. It was an incredible 10 seconds.

@@ronaldpokatiloff5704 I'm wondering, what was it like the first time you heard a Chuck Berry song? I may have also heard it back then, but I was two about to turn three. To me hearing some artists for the first time was stunning or perhaps revolutionary when I hadn't heard anything like them. It was like that when I heard Hendrix and Queen for the first time. I didn't know what to make of them, but then I became big fans of them. I suspect it was the same with Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Btw, I got a chance to see Bo live about a year or two before he died.

1950s was and always will be the true rock and roll sound, what it is meant to sound like. Prior to the term rock and roll it was known as the big beat. The Beatles sang some of these early songs because of the inspiration they got from them. They reintroduced early rock. The original "big Beat" will always be the basis of real rock and roll. I'm glad to have lived it from its beginning. Wish it were still here today to some extent, in its original form. Long live rock and roll as the song goes.
