I think you're going to have to learn in your life
to learn how to submit to something that's greater than you
and know that you'll know when it's beyond your own mind.
You'll know that it's just not some thought that you want.
God has put desire in you, but you're going to know
when He's activating that desire by His spirit.
And all of a sudden, that desire to know Him came alive in me at that point.
And I really went forward, and I gave my life to the Lord.
I got baptized and then things over the next six years,
got very bad in our family life.
And my dad died a very tragic death at 39.
As the firstborn son I’m in charge over all this inheritance
of land and cattle and horses and farms.

How big? How many acres?
Chuck Pierce
Oh, it's probably close to 600 acres.
And all of the process that we had was that,
well, you don't want to be that when you're 16.
You really aren't looking to have
that responsibility when you're young like that.
So, for a couple of years, I can honestly say
I rebelled against the Lord.
And then I went over my first year in college...
Wes Campbell
Were you upset that your father died?
Chuck Pierce
Well, I knew that was inevitable.
He had gone in a direction he shouldn't go.
And I knew that we were in some interesting times,
which I really don't talk about.
I've never really overshared about the darkness
that had so invaded our inheritance.
But that's why I write so many books
about and understand warfare because...
Wes Campbell
But you weren't blaming God for his death?
Chuck Pierce
No, no, no, no.
God took him.
God took him because it'd gotten so bad.
That's one of the reasons I came to know,
I knew that about the Lord too.
There's a sin unto death.
He says, don't pray for it, but he can cause it to happened.
And so I came to know
about that when I was 16 years old.
I knew that the Lord had taken my dad.
And so no, I was mad about all the responsibility
because I wanted to party and have a good time
and be like normal kids and I had a lot of responsibility
as a very young man at 16.
And yet, I was a straight A student
and I was very determined.
and yet, I can say I started pulling away from the Lord
for two years.
And then my first year of college,
I went over to see my grandmother
to have lunch with her because we were very close.
And she said, "You know, you’re going in a direction
that you're not supposed to go in.
And like, I refuse for you to end up
not in what God has planned for you, like your dad did."
Because now she loved my dad,
my mother's mother loved my dad,
and he just went off in the wrong direction.
And she said, "I refuse for that to happen to you."
And I said, "You know, mama, I didn't come over here
for you to preach at me."
You know, when you're 17 or 18,
you know more than Jesus, you think.
And I just came over here to see you.
And she brought my food, set it down in front of me,
and with the back of her hand…
Now I am not a kid that got disciplined a whole lot
because I wasn't a bad kid.
She turned around and backhanded me out of the chair.
She said, "I won't bring it up again.
I'm going to let God deal with you."
Now, I don't know that she ever did that to my dad,
my grandmother.
I knew she was capable of doing it,
but something happened in me.
And when she said those words,
"I'm going to let God deal with you,"
you get that icky feeling all in you
because you don't know what that means.
Well, that was at the beginning of the summer of 1972.
And by the beginning of September of that year,
I ended up in the hospital under oxygen.
And so you said something before we started this
that the Lord had shown you
that I'd had some near-death experience.
I actually almost died.

Did you ever have a near death experience
that resulted in your turnaround?
