Chucky just wrapped up its 3rd season where our favorite homicidal doll racks up a bodycount at the White House. There were a number of things I highly enjoyed about this season, but I think it's time to accept that this series isn't for me anymore.

@@CodyLeachYT I've been a fan since childhood growing up with the the first movie and I enjoy 2,3 and bride. The other sequels weren't for me. Enjoyed the remake. The show had potential but season 2 killed that and season 3 had some bright spots, but was disappointing. I'm happy other people seem to be enjoying it, but being a fan for 30 years has been hard with the last two seasons.

The show just goes no where. By the end of season 2, the only thing that happened was Nica being unpossessed (which was pretty anticlimactic considering Tiffany resulted to dismembering Nica because she couldn’t find a way to unpossess her, yet they did it fairly easily) and Coraline being kidnapped. Skip all the boring boarding school shenanigans, and you don’t miss out on anything. And then season 3- season 2 already had Nica and Tiffany so disconnected from the school plot line, but this season all the characters have nothing to do. We all already knew Tiffany wasn’t going to die, we already knew Nica would take more L’s, and Jake, Devon, Lexi feel like they were forced into this season. And then at the end, Tiffany and Chucky get back together, which we have seen so many times

Overall, the Child’s Play franchise as well as the Chucky TV series itself is complicated for me. On the one hand, I have a ton of respect for Don Mancini for continuing this continuity, these characters, and always bringing new ideas and influences to this property. He’s dedicated his career to this set of films, which I find impressive. However, I also think Mancini has run into what George Lucas ran into with the Star Wars Prequels, what Zack Snyder has run into with the current section of his career, and even what Quentin Tarantino’s work occasionally runs into. I don’t think it’s an ego thing, it’s something that happens a lot to creatives. That being no one to challenge them or box them in. When creative minds are able to run wild with whatever ideas they think up, that usually doesn’t go the best. With Mancini in particular, he seems to surrounded by a cast and a crew who love and adore him. And because of that, I doubt anyone who Mancini bounces his ideas off of actually is doing anything to stop his ideas from originating in his mind to the writing to the filming to the editing room. I absolutely think that’s why the franchise has had such large tonal swings from project to project. But again, I respect Mancini for not recycling previous ideas, plotpoints, and character development. Do I like the more horror based Chucky? Yes, a lot more than when it’s campy and mixes in other genres. But even when it’s campy, I see a certain amount of artistic expression in what’s being brought to the screen. I know this comment wasn’t really about Season 3. These are just some ideas I’ve had about this franchise over the past couple of weeks. Hopefully some of this is coherent in what I’m saying.

Cody I have such immense respect and admiration for you to keep reviewing this series, and I totally understand why you feel like your out of steam or just drained. When I think about what I would want from a Chucky show, I would want it to take it in mature and dark direction that feels like a natural progression of the original trilogy and Bride by extension. I would want it to be a dark character study, particularly of the legacy characters, Andy and Kyle. The question I would’ve liked the show to ask is “who/what does someone become when they’ve been hunted by chucky their whole life.” The sheer paranoia, alienation of people around you, over-prepared your whole life waiting for Chucky to show up again. They touched on this subject with Andy a little bit in Cult and a bit in Season 1 but they never really explored this aspect to warrant deep discussion or praise about, and in Season 2 he feels like a loose thread to wrap up and just kinda leaves the show. When I think of Tiffany, loved her in Bride, but ever since then she’s become a caricature of her own character. How many times am I gonna see Chucky and Tiffany falling out and making again, I’ve been seeing this dynamic since 1998. What is the point of her character right now? She’s gone back to the status quo we’ve been at multiple times and the show really hasn’t done anything to show why her character is significant/meaningful. They never commute fully to her abandoning Chucky or accepting him, which I know is emblematic of the toxic relationship she’s in, but how many more times am I gonna see this play out the same way? The show often presents very interesting ideas but drops them immediately or takes a nosedive into over campiness. The lore lacks little to no sense season to season, and when I see Voodoo doctor, how am I supposed to take this seriously when the show itself doesn’t take it seriously. All in all, what made me fall in love with the original trilogy and bride was how they were beautiful in their simplicity, they didn’t need so many characters, they didn’t need convoluted lore and they nailed the delicate balance between horror/camp. This show could’ve been something amazing, pushing Chucky in a place that would feel meaningful, fresh and warranting of a show but the show really hasn’t accomplished anything character wise or story wise that has made me hold it right up there with the classics.

Its a little odd to me how much this series focuses on teenage sexuality. The actors for Jake, Devon, Lexy and Junior were all underage so having them kiss and do sexually suggestive stuff feels kinda gross especially after the whole Quiet on Set doc and how it really shined a light on how poorly child actors have been treated even in the modern era. Yes, in reality a lot of teenagers do this stuff but does that mean we should still cast actual teenagers in those roles? I mean say what you will about something like Euphoria but at least all those actors are in there 20s and are adults. I know its a joke in like old 80s movies where every teenager looked 30 but it feels less creepy than when they actually cast underage actors and have them doing adult stuff. Hollywood is weird man!

I mean people shit on the sidewalk doesn't mean I wanna see it in my entertainment. Its Hollywood's incessance to make underage actors do sexually suggestive stuff in media that's the issue. If teenage sexuality is gonna be portrayed I think actors who are at least 18 or older should be the ones cast because there adults who can consent. To keep things simple I think this season was definitely an improvement over S2. Season 2 was so infuriating and the things I liked about the season were overshadowed by the negatives. This season it was the opposite of that were the pros definitely were more prevalent than the negatives but not by too much. The best part about the season hands down which made the viewing experience much better was the kills like this was a very gory season which I loved. Like this was the Don Mancini gore that the show has been missing. Hot take I actually liked the finale lol except the last 5 mins but overall it was the best finale comparatively to the season 1 and 2 finale. Season 1 is still the best season standing at a 8/10 for me, Season 2 is a 4/10, and season 3 is a 6/10. Even tho a season 4 was pitched I would rather have the movie. I’m so over the tv format for chucky he needs to make a big comeback on the big screen and I’m happy tiffany is back in the doll cause human tiffany was starting to get really boring. So whenever that new movie happens we will finally get the duo again but as dolls. Also happy they redeemed the good chucky plotline with officially going there was never a good chucky it was the worst plotline the show has ever brought up. Also Cody I get your critique on Jake and Devon bc as a bisexual I felt the same way. They were only here to have cute gay moments that’s literally it which is frustrating since I don’t like one dimensional gay characters. Especially since Jake was so interesting in season 1 and he’s become the side character with Lexy basically being the most interesting/leader of the group. I will fight anyone who says you’re homophobic cause you’re not.

Social media told me that the people you’re trying to represent should be written/made by those people. Well, Mancini is homosexual and Jake/Devon are the worst characters in the series. So I guess the internet lied. I thought Devon was going to be the smartest of the group/strategist expert. He was a famous true crime podcaster and his mom had her own unit. Now he’s just a bottom. Jake went from this underdog to root for, to just a filler character nearly. Despite his character being the reason all these plots kicked off. It was filled with teenagers around my age or kids below 12 I'd say, but one of the kids were watching an episode from Chucky Season 2 and since Chucky is not at all appropriate for kids, I asked the kid why was she watching it and the kid straight up just told me that Chucky was "really funny" and the kid kept watching it as if it was something like Spongebob. I disagree. We got to know Jake and Devon during the previous 2 seasons. They were depicted in season 3 as 2 teenagers in love which always overshadows everything else. There is historical significance in their relationship becoming physical with the suggestion that they had sex on the small screen, which was why I think the writers chose to focus so much attention on it, which is what has been missed here. I don’t think younger viewers recognize this or understand what a real stereotypical depiction to include neutered, non threatening characters really looked like. None of this would have been allowed on even a cable network years ago. The director and writers have to satisfy the network’s demands as well the general audience’s comfort and understanding. Hollywood has always been behind the times. Blame Hollywood not the director.

There is a fine line between funny and crazy and silly and nonsensical. I don’t like that there is no rules anymore. That means I can never fully get invested. Imagine how better of a season this would've been if it focused on Grant finding out that Chucky is alive near the end of like Episode 1 and the season follows him trying to save his family. The points you raised in the last few minuets of the video really resonated with me, I totally understand where you are coming from, I have the same thoughts and feelings about the current state of the franchise as well. I'm not a content creator, but even as just a viewer it gets mentally tiring when I feel as if I should be enjoying what comes out of this property even when I'm forcing myself to find things I liked about it. It's unfortunate you've had negative interactions with a few people involved with the show, and as someone who does partake in discourse online with other Chucky fans, I've had more negative interactions with the over-defensive crowd for simply being honest with my opinions. I have nothing but respect for Don Mancini as a person, everyone who works with him says nothing but good things and he seems like a great guy, sticking with the franchise for over 30 years is almost unheard of, but I do feel as if people take negative things said about the show as personal attack towards Don and the crew, when that really isn't the case. I'm sure the point will be lost on some people but I hope that most people respect honesty of opinion more so than just being overly positive (or negative) for the sake of it. I've always valued your honestly with your opinions and thoughts.

Title: The Showrunner's Misstep In the realm of serialized drama, where each season unfolds like a chapter in an epic saga, there exists a delicate balance between innovation and fidelity to the audience's expectations. Yet, in the case of Season 3, that balance has been grievously upset. With a heavy heart and a furrowed brow, fans of the acclaimed series found themselves adrift in a sea of disappointment. For Don Mancini, the mastermind behind the show's narrative tapestry, had stumbled upon treacherous shores. Gone were the days of narrative intrigue and plot twists that left audiences on the edge of their seats. Instead, Mancini's once-vaunted storytelling had devolved into a pale imitation of its former glory. The once-unpredictable had become painfully predictable, a shadow of its former self. As whispers of discontent echoed through the halls of fandom, a sense of betrayal hung heavy in the air. For Mancini, once hailed as a visionary, had succumbed to the siren song of complacency. His once-keen narrative instincts dulled by the passage of time, he had become a prisoner of his own success. And so, the clamor grew louder with each passing episode. Fans, once loyal and devoted, now found themselves at a crossroads. To continue down this path of mediocrity was to forsake the very essence of what made the series great. In the annals of television history, there are few greater tragedies than a beloved show brought low by the hubris of its creator. And so, the call for cancellation rang out like a clarion call. For in the eyes of the fans, to see the show end would be a victory in itself. A testament to the enduring power of the audience's voice in shaping the narratives they hold dear. For Don Mancini, the road ahead is fraught with peril. Yet, perhaps in the crucible of criticism lies the opportunity for redemption. A chance to rediscover the spark of creativity that once set the series ablaze, and to once again chart a course towards storytelling greatness.

Always funny to me how people can be on such a high horse of defending their product or group of people like its a noble cause that they can't ever be wrong about it and do it by putting down someone so much to where their spirit is just broken and go for the easiest lowblow they can and label them something hateful that they are not, which could ruin someones actual life, that so unaware and reckless. I always found it funny that the kinda thing those same people would fight against, the bullying or hate, are the same thing they do to someone else? Someone who holds something so special to themselves now has a tainted view and has lies painted about them and no one deserve that with anything. I have massive respect for you, Cody. I've been following your channel probably since season 1 dropped, and I've found that we have very similar takes on this franchise. I've loved this character since I was way too young, and it has been so difficult for me to stay invested in the past five years. I think super highly of Mancini, the writers in general, the actors, the puppeteers, everyone that has been involved with Chucky, but I think you said it best, what I like about the series is just not what the people behind it want to do anymore. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some of the silliness and campiness, but especially with this show, they have just lost all sense of direction. Again, you said it in the video, but there's no stakes anymore because in this universe Mancini has crafted, they can just undo anything, no worries. I guarantee if this continuity keeps going for another few years, they'll find a way to bring back stuff like Jennifer Tilly's human body or the stitched-up Chucky look, parts of the story that have no way of returning ever at this point. It was hard for me to be excited for the marketing for Season 3 Part 2 because I realized that despite how cool of an idea it would be for this to be setting up for an "endgame" of sorts, leading into a final theatrical release... They just can't get rid of this character. I personally think Season 4 has already been greenlit because realistically, there's no way SYFY/USA drops this show. The thousands of hashtags and phone calls fans have made over the last few days are just their reassurance. Plus, I don't think Mancini wants to stop anytime soon, which is unfortunate. Overall, thank you Cody for covering this show, and I'm sorry you've received such negative backlash because of it. I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts because of how much of an echo-chamber the Chucky fandom is nowadays lmao.

I actually enjoyed the first season and the second season wasn’t awful. This third season…yes the kills were fun, but the rest was just kind of SSDD. I hated the end of the season finale. When Tiffany was about to be executed and Jake was going “under”, I thought for a minute they would go the route of Jake, Tiffany, and Chucky all in the spirit realm. Where the plot would have gone from there, I dunno. Tiff’s escape was pretty good though. If they make a season 4, will I watch it? Probably, but it definitely won’t be a priority 🤷🏻‍♀️

As someone who also enjoyed season 1 but hated season 2 (to the point where i stopped watching after the murder mystery episode), i was pleasantly surprised by season 3 I bought into the white house plot because of how good the dynamic between the Collins family was (standouts were definitely Devon Sawa, Lara Chorostecki, and Jackson Kelly) and i really did like what they did with the ghost stuff, it was a neat way to freshen up the franchise (and gave us more on screen Brad Dourif, who was phenomenal in episodes 7 & 8) I also like that more time was spent on the main trio rather than Tiffany (no offense to Jennifer Tilly but she was just too much in season 2) But, Don proves once again that he cannot properly end these seasons without forcing a Chucky/Tiffany victory, and while i like the idea of the main trio and possibly Nica becoming dolls, it's worrying me that the payoff will either fall flat or not be properly fleshed out depending on if S4 focuses on the Chucky family or Andy and Kyle And, I genuinely don't want another plotline of Chucky and Tiff being a family only for it to fall apart again, their dynamic is so old at this point I want to have hope for Chucky Season 4, but Don is gonna have to do something big to make me as invested as i was during this season

I remember the finale of Cult of Chucky leaving the door open for such a wild and fun follow-up with Chucky inhabiting the body of Nica and riding off into the night with Tiffany to cause chaos. The TV series however never really did anything noteworthy with the concept. It probably sounds terrible, but my main problem with the TV series is the focus on the teen characters. The acting and chemistry just isn’t good enough to warrant spending so much time with them, it feels like you’re having to wade through it to get to the interesting Chucky and Tiffany content.

As someone who has gotten a decent amount of enjoyment out of this series, I still agree with a lot of the points you made here. Like you I'm more into the horror side of Chucky but I can enjoy the camp as well; Child's Play 1, 2 and Curse are my favorites, but I still love Bride of Chucky and despite its flaws I actually have a fun time with seed. A problem I had with seed though and what the show has seemed to double down on is making a visual gag or joke at the expense of the lore and worldbuilding ie: Glenn speaking Japanese even though we've seen that the Goodguy dolls are made in America. I feel like the show does stuff like this all the time which removes a lot of the worlds realism that the first three had (I get the original established working Voodoo but that was the only element that wasn't normal). The bigger issues I have with the show though is the underutilization of characters, mediocre writing and half-baked stories that they keep telling. I loved the Old Chucky idea, and I was open to ghosts as an excuse to see Charles lee ray again but the stuff surrounding that had little to no depth. Jake as a Character got nothing interesting to do until the finale which just makes the trio boring to watch. The weird secret service guy seemed pointless, and Tiffany's stuff was just okay (I do like them bringing back voodoo dolls from the original though). But holy shit we've reached a new low for the franchise with the human dolls at the end. I'd be less annoyed with the weird outlandish ideas if the writing was good and execution was better, but a lot of the show never really reaches what its full potential could be. Characters that I want to see like Andy, Kyle and Nica are sidelined for characters that they actively choose to do nothing with. I think Don Mancini has a lot of great ideas and he is the reason we are still getting Chucky content which I'm grateful for, but I think somebody in the writers' room needs to pull him back a little from time to time and give more attention to the Character work and story arcs. It's really a shame that people in the fanbase acted this way towards you for just stating your opinion and critiquing the show. Everybody has different taste and opinions, especially in a long on-going franchises like child's play. If we don't criticize the things we love the creators will keep thinking that "this is what the fans want" never improving what could be better and in the long run this can muddy the legacy of a once revered and great franchise.

I've been a massive fan of the franchise since pre-Bride. I was born in '91, so I was young, but I worshipped those first 3 films. Bride disappointed me at first because it was so different, but it grew to be my favorite. Was super involved with the IMDB Seed of Chucky boards anticipating that movie...probably the first film I reall tracked/followed to that extent. I didn't hate it, but it was no Bride. I thought Curse was a bit overrated, but a nice return to form. Cult was a mess but the fanboy in me liked seeing Andy/Tiffany/Nica all in one film. The reboot was good! Almost something entirely unrelated, but lots of fun. The first season started GREAT but fell apart towards the end, and at this point I have to force myself to watch. I hate that Don forgets all his own rules, never follows through on plot points, makes shit so weird and campy. I want more than anything for them to write a solid ending and allow the franchise to go out with dignity, but its pretty clear they are going to drag it out until it peters out. And it is sad to see.

I actually love how this series constantly figures out ways to make each episode feel like a short film of its own. I never know what to expect when I tune in every week, and even though some of the character work is stale and perhaps too campy for its own good, I'm always riveted and curious as to what's coming next. None of these cliffhangers failed to leave me upset & speechless, with this latest one in particular triggering me with the fates of our lead characters. It felt both uncanny and disturbing. I hear you about the unhinged tonal shifts, lore extensions and the unorthodox directions, but idk, I feel like this franchise has managed to stay consistent with itself, even at its silliest, *far and beyond* better than most slasher franchises. I loved the movies because, even if some shared the same premise, the execution never felt repetitious. And yet, when put together, they all still feel like part of an ever evolving, shared story. To me, Child's Play 1 was a mystery thriller of sorts, the sequel was a lot more playful and action-driven, and the 3rd film was a very dark coming of age story. Then you have the horror-comedy phase of the franchise, with Bride feeling like a road trip movie and Seed using the Hollywood setting to up the meta gags. Curse felt like a very throwbacky home invasion-style horror and Cult amped up the psychological front. This commitment to finding new ways to cover the same murder doll premise extends to the series, and that's what I admire the most from the franchise, even if this results in some inevitable plot holes and proyects/ideas I resonate with more than others (the horror-oriented side of things is also my personal fav). Here's hoping S4 figures out a way to win you over by playing more on that side without foregoing the quality that's kept the franchise relevant for this long 🔥. Edit: I loved the 2019 remake as well. I've earned a lot of hate from the community for saying it out loud, but wtvr.

As a life long Chucky fan, I feel like THIS is leagues worst than Seed of Chucky, and I'd rather watch that because I feel like they're tarnishing Chucky's legacy with this series and the decisions they're making for this series. I keep finding new things wrong with this series, one of those things being the writer's room fumbled on the writing with the exorcism plot. It tarnished his ability to use voodoo, right? Well, then how is Chucky able to use his voodoo powers to switch bodies with that woman not 10 minutes after he had the exorcism performed on him???? I can't be bothered with this terrible series anymore, and it's most likely the last I will ever watch Chucky. Also, the Devon and Chucky kiss was the most uncalled for thing in the whole season. What the hell where they thinking??????

Cody I agree with everything you’re saying man I grew up watching the old Child’s play movies and completely miss the actual horror aspects of Chucky and don’t enjoy the campiness really at all in all honesty. Especially how they’ve taken things. I wanted to ask you because I’m not sure if you noticed it too or not. In the finale, I got really excited when they showed the original good guy doll and thought we were going to see that old version of Chucky once again and couldn’t wait to see it! But then when he entered the doll it looked exactly how the show always made him look. What the fuck happened there was I the only one who caught that and was bummed out? Like why even bring the old one up if you aren’t going to bring the look back?

@CodyLeachYT Personally speaking and being that I was born in 88, Child’s Play 1-3 and also Bride will always be MY version of chucky films I prefer. Also I think I’m not able to relate to any of the Gen Z humor and content the show has with the 3 main characters, which plays a huge factor in my personal experience as a viewer in any TV show or Film. (Speaking from a 36 year old perspective). Keep doing your thing Cody and don’t let the pressure of idiots stop you from your talent of providing us with your honest and objective reviews. Great work!!

Even if the show doesnt cater to us old school Chucky fans, I still think the new stuff the show has done is objectively pretty bad, full of half baked ideas that they have no idea how to finish so they move onto the next as fast as they can. Add the fact that they completely butchered Nicas character to the point shes literally useless is such a waste & i have no damn clue what they were thinking. The kills & Chucky himself are the only standouts. Sad the show divulged into this after such a decently strong start

I also really wanted the franchise to end with this season as I have now lost faith this franchise is going to land the plane and end in a satisfying conclusion before Brad Dourif passes away. I do bet he enjoyed being able to act in live action opposite Fiona playing him.

That's one of the reasons I've wanted this series to end for a while now that it seems like not a lot of people understand. Brad is in his mid 70s now, yes he's in great shape for his age, but still. Chucky deserves a proper conclusion while brad is still here, the OG timeline should end with the OG chucky, and not abruptly or with an AI Brad dourif, fuck that.

The fact that Caroline just let Chucky trap her sister and her friends into dolls really made me mad. I agree that Andy or Kyle should come to their rescue, but I got a feeling Gigi might play a role in this too. Nica mentions that she and Gigi talk to each other everyday, and I think they will get a little suspicious if she suddenly stopped calling them. Glen and Glenda were shown to be very smart and evolved in the 2nd season, by outsmarting their Mom, and doing what's right in helping Nica escape. I was very fond of them for that because Nica has proven to be my favorite character in the franchise. Despite every cruel thing those 2 plastic lunatics put her through, she never lost her fighting spirit. It's like she said to Chucky before he ran away with Caroline, "What doesn't kill me, makes me stronger." That's exactly what Michelle Knight said in her song survivor. Michelle was the first and eldest victim who was held prisoner in a house of horrors for 11 years by the monster Ariel Castro, along with Amanda and Jocelyn Berry, and Gina DeJesus, until they finally escaped 11 years ago. Anyways, the thing I love about the return of the Glen doll is their friendship with Nica, because I found it nice for her to find someone in the Ray family who was actually normal. Glenda may have been a little crazy, but they don't exactly seem proud to be a killer anymore. Gigi's problem with their parents is that they're less evolved and always wrong. While Tiffany tried to be more supportive and hide her dark side from the twins, Chucky kept pushing his kids into being a monster like him. If I were Gigi and I mentioned that, I would say, "Whatever crap my parents were into, that was okay for them. But I wanted better." You can't deny that Gigi now just wants a peaceful life, far away from the dread and drama their parents have brought into it, and it's great to know that they literally made a friend out of all of it. So I'm hoping Nica will reunite with them someday, because at this point I consider Gigi her only true friend after they helped get her life back. Their friendship was the big thing I loved most from the 2nd season, and I would love to see Gigi come to the rescue. Wendell's willing to welcome any doll into his house, and Gigi could get in and outsmart him easy.

Your message at the end really clicked with me In all honesty, I've not been close to Chucky as a series In my life but hearing you speak on how sometimes a franchise one cares about but moves on to a different direction saddens me. I know you share a positive opinion about modern Scream, but I feel about those two films how you feel about modern Chucky. They are going In a position that clicks with another audience but not with some older fans of a series. It's a somber feeling to be sort of, left behind Is maybe the correct term? But I hope the Child's Play series heads Into a direction your more happy with.

I adore how mancini always finds a way to take the franchise into fresh directions, and I also adore how diverse the characters are with their stories.. I just think this season felt, stale? I enjoyed parts, but the parts I enjoyed they'd skip over and rush, and the stuff I wasn't a fan of they'd just drag out. I agree with you, the main trio were great in that first season, but now it just feels like they're playing an exaggerated version of themselves

I was actually hoping once they started talking about Chucky dying that they were preparing for a series finale because I'm not sure if they're going to get a season 4 but once I realized Andy wasn't coming for season 3 then I was hoping this alleged movie can wrap the franchise up or at least the Brad Dourif Version while he's still alive because I hate it when a show doesn't conclude the story

man i feel ya. i like this season more than the last, i never hated that season though, but jesus i really thought they'd be going back to at least some semblance of 'scary Chucky'. the gore and kills have been FANTASTIC this season, Lexy remains my favourite of the new cast, and seeing Brad Dourif back was so cool. and seeing Devon Sawa is always a good time, bringing him back as new characters as an in-universe joke always has me intrigued. hoping Andy and Kyle come back again for the next season, and that Nica doesn't get so sidelined, she's a top 3 character for me i'm one of the few people, but i've never liked Tiffany at all. i can watch Bride just fine, but everything after with her i just keep thinking "come ON, i don't care for this character" and the campiness she brings to it just isn't for me. of course the show wouldn't have the guts to kill her off in the execution scene, there's just no stakes in the franchise anymore because we all know they're gonna survive.
