I actually loved this movie as kid. Thought it was badass.

Great review as always Cody! Does this mean the review series is over and you’re not gonna cover Cigarette Burns, Someone’s Watching Me, Elvis or Pro Life? Full disclosure, I haven’t seen any of these nor all of the Carpenter films you’ve covered so far but I just love hearing you discuss movies no matter what

I think Carpenter said if he was to do another movie he'd want to do dead space. In which case i'm game for it.

I think that the only good example of the "it was all a dream" trope in horror is Jacob's Ladder, which might not even count as a dream

I've never seen so many women in a shower in which you see nothing. Lightning effects are on overload in a lot of horror film scenes which I find ridiculous. How can lightning strike like every 3 seconds for about 50 times?

I know my comment is years late. But I wish they brought back Desmond Harrison to look into the hills with a proper police force and discover a convent of inbred families. Would have saved about 5 movies

I was so excited when this came out and I saw it in the video rental store with Carpenter's name attached. Then I watched it.

Carpenter had a great run from the late seventies to the late eighties. He was the king of the low budget genre movie. However, he didn't progress much as a filmmaker once the nineties rolled around. Spielberg graduated from popcorn cinema to making stuff like Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, while at the same time, Tarantino and other big hitters of nineties cinema were making their mark. Unfortunately, Carpenter never adapted to the changing cinematic landscape and never had his Citizen Kane moment, never made that one movie which would have caused the critics to sit up and re-evaluate his prowess as a filmmaker. His niche was the low budget genre pic and in the eighties, no-one did it better. When all's said and done, if he's only remembered for The Thing and Halloween, that isnt a bad legacy. As for The Ward, I quite enjoyed it upon first viewing... until the ending. If I hadn't seen Identity first, my opinion may have been different. Great cast though, with some nice performances.

JC directed this movie pretty much entirely from his trailer. Yes, his name is on it, yes it was a money job, no, I never made it all the way through it.

I approached it as a low budget film and the movie wasn't as bad as you make it sound.

Bad effort by John Carpenter, it seems like by this point, he didn't care

Carpenter is notorious for cash grabs… He does crap movies you can tell he didn’t care about. When he cares he makes all time great films…. Gotta pay them bills!!

Love your videos but must be boring just watching mostly American movies? There's so many awesome European movies out there. Personally I prefer those. Atmosphere and eeriness is unparalleled

Yes please do a review of IDENTITY. Great movie. I saw it in theaters. One of the most unnerving theater experiences ever. That constant rain pouring sound for almost 2 hours really gave me a disoriented feeling. Such a great movie.

This barely even got released. I only heard about it back then because Matthew Buck reviewed it for Projector, and that show covers stuff that opens early in the UK. Hell I don't think it even got a US release until 2012.

If a movie like this was Wes Cravens last film and he unfortunately passed away afterwards, then we would be more forgiving cause life is unpredictable. John Carpenter is still alive and had the last fourteen years to rectify this mistake. I know he’s old but damn it just stings your soul a bit that this is the last movie he made.

I consider The Ward & Village of the Damned to be worse than Ghosts of Mars for the same reason I consider NOES (2010) to be worse than Freddy's Dead: Lifeless films with no personality are worse than spectacular failures. It felt like Carpenter wasn't even trying with this one.

I really like the first 2 WS Anderson RE movies, the third one was decent, and the fourth one was OK but the other two were crap. That being said, resident evil welcome to raccoon city is the worst of them all.

The Jigsaw influence on Paul Dano’s Riddler was something I really appreciated as a massive Saw fan. The rat maze and the bomb collar used to take out the police chief and the DA, respectively, feel ripped straight of John Kramer’s sketchbook and I love it.
