Purchased this to replace a guide pulley kzfaq.infoUgkxO9seYZjlnuP5UvMkb7osQW3WxPVeSnPk on our John Deere x304 snowblower. As I stated in the title, it is just about perfect. The stock pulley has a spacer at the bottom. I used four washers to emulate said spacer, and it works perfectly now. Great product, and great price especially if compared to typical JD prices.

I did this same thing with a 90's model Vari-Drive mower, I also bought a 3" longer than stock belt (stock is 53, I bought 56) and it worked perfect, despite being an older and different setup. Swapped on a v-twin, bypassed the governor and it will go 15 MPH before the valves float. Cheap and effective, I want to try a torque converter on the crank pulley!

Grade 8 bolts are made to hold things together, fastening one thing to another. They are not made for shear strength.. they will snap when the shear force is too high where as a grade 5 bolt will bend and flex before it breaks. Most people think a grade 8 or hardened bolt is the best you can get and you should use them in place of a grade 5 if you need something stronger and that’s just not the case unless they are being used to fasten one thing to another.
@chud3274 жыл бұрын

@@dionbecker3496 you need to put a solid live rear axle in it and run a separate transmission. Then you can have two separate ways to change gear ratios. 1 will be the pulley ratio from the engine to the trans and two will be gear ratios from the trans to the rear. That gives you tons of options to go as fast or slow as you can handle driving it lol.

By flipping the front pulley, the deck would only turn half as fast, so you wouldn't want to use it to mow the grass any more. Looks like you could have flipped the intermediate pulley (the one at 8:20) instead and gotten the same result. And then you could still use it with the deck on it. Of course, if you have no intention of using it to mow the grass, you could _still_ flip that second pulley, and get even *_more_* speed out of it.

I may have to look into that, unfortunately, the mower came with no deck… thanks for watching!

my one rider, if the mower deck is off (like in this video) if I stand on the back of the rider, it will lift the front off the ground some, so it does not take a lot, with something like this with a very high center of gravity...very fun!

4:40 I would only drill out to 1/4" and then use the weakest bolt possible (#2 zinc?). If the load on the pulley becomes too great, you want the bolt to shear not the pulley or the crankshaft.
@chud3274 жыл бұрын
I am planning on doing this again and this time I have purchased a 1/4 bolt, we will see how it goes and thanks for watching.

@@chud327 Kool mod for speed! I learned from being on a farm where there's lots of different farm equipment that uses sheer bolts and they were designed to be weaker than the machine parts they connect. When you are drilling post holes you'll usually go through at least a handful of them so I always kept a big bag of the bolts handy.

I love it! Flip flops and mechanic work - you'd be hard pressed to find a better match. Do you cut grass with that thing? Will it sling the clippings into your neighbors yard? Have you knocked out a window/windshield when it picked a rock while mowing? Damn good post. My skills as a mechanic have become so poor that the Georgia Association of Shade Tree Mechanics have pulled my license and tools. They left with a pair of pliers that slip and a small bit Phillips screwdriver that has a rounded of tip.

Use a hand throttle. You can use a brake handle from a bicycle. Just mount it to the steering wheel and have fun
