LT1 was available in Corvette and Camero only, and they stopped production in 1970. They didn’t have aluminum heads, but cast ones with the double-hump castings. 2.20 intake 1.60 exhaust valves. It was a 4 bolt main block and had “pink” rods, which had 7/16 rod bolts instead of the usual 3/8. In the Camaro it was rated @ 350 hp, ‘Vette 360 hp the difference being cold air induction of the ‘Vette hood

I bought an 85' Blazer in the early 2k's on a "buy here pay here" back lot for $900, it had an old school 4 bolt 350, and what looked like Hooker headers, MSD ign parts, perfect base vinyl interior, no dents, no dings, nothing but faded pain. spent 10 hours working on the paint, and $300 on a used Holley/int. manifold...I drove that thing for 2 years, until the trans started to wear out, sold it for $3k :D there's some good finds out there, just got to pry a bit, even at the smaller sales lots, people don't realize what they have sometimes, don't feel obligated to tell them!

Cool. These were good pickups. Very cheap to maintain. I also loved the earlier models dashboard. I had a 1989 and a 1992. I liked the 1989 better just because it had the weird dashboard. It was a 1500 with a 350 tbi. They also made many with the 305 and the 4.3 V6 tbi. The one we had at my job had the 4.3. That pickup saved my life. I crashed in a 5 tons water tanker at 100km/h the guy turned on the red light and cut me the way. It was a 1988 1500. The doors wouldn't open anymore and it didn't have a airbag obviously. I was lucky to have only a palette of folded boxes. I usually have to bring 32 inches steel manhole covers from the machine shop. It will have cut me in 2.

Ive just been gifted a free 81,000 mile, 95 Z28, from a guy I used to turn wrenches with at the local Ford dealership. He spent thousands on the engine, heads and transmission. It dyno'd at 421 hp to the wheels, N/A. Plus it has a 130 shot of nitrous on top of that. He ran 7.40's on nitrous at our 1/8th mile drag strip here in Jackson, TN. Its been sitting out in the direct sunlight for 10 years and the clearcoat is bubbled up on it. So we're gonna have to try some wizardry on that, and see if we can at least make it a nice 10 footer. Lol. He parked it only 2500 miles after building it, due to blowing a head gasket. He got in a hurry finishing up putting the engine back togethern, and put a cheap set of gaskets on it. So im hopefully gonna pull the heads off this week, and drop them off at the machine shop, just to have them cleaned up and checked, just for peace of mind. best gift ive ever been given. Lol

Stopped by to see what if any new changes to install of LT1 small block . Started doin this in the 80s with 302-400s sledgehammer performance engines , auto trans or 4-5 speed manuals . Found the best hookup for traction is long bed longer wheel base . Better weight transfer and control at 170 mph + oh yeah lock right rear . I’m old now can’t do a lot anymore …so great to see these are still alive ,, square body first gen. Rpm’s 7000 n up to 9500 on 302s . You did a good conversion.

I had a white 1989 single cab S10 with the 2.5 4 cylinder engine. It had a vinyl powder blue color bench seat. It had am fm and no cassette. It was a plastic dash with the powder blue color. Also had plastic molding OVER the lighter, so no lighter but a ash tray. It looked like a bare minimum company issued truck, my dad bought it used. Loved that truck, I beat the hell out of that tiny 4 cylinder! I was a broke college kid and would change oil every 12 thousand miles. Lol. ..also hauled ton of sand. Years later I bought a 1988 4.3 v6 with crew cab. It had 120k miles and smelled like a ashtray. The the passenger door was a different color. Rusty, lol.. this was 2001 and I remember the cassette deck and Delco still rocked, the 4.3 absolutely hauled. It unfortunately reek very bad of stale Marlboro reds. It was getting smokey and parts hard-to-find. Got rid of it after a few years

Brings back memories of my 1998 ranger budget build. I had drove it for 7 years with the 4 cylinder in it before deciding to go 5.0. My budget in the finished product was zero dollars. So I found a 1998 explorer 5.0 for $500 and a F150 For the 5 speed for $400. Sold converters off explorer for $500 sold motor from F150 for $300. And sold the scrap from both donor vehicles and think I ended up a few hundred dollars ahead. But while the ranger was fast and strong it was extremely horrible on gas. I did drive it to work before gas went up and it cost $20 a day. I traded it of about 6 months ago. These projects can be fun but can be built on a budget

Very cool story, sounds like you could do this for a living. Mine before this was $600 through trading, using what was in the garage, and deals on marketplace. I sold it for $2400 + $400 for extra tires and wheels. That is $1800 profit. Only thing is I don't want to sell this one to build the next one. Cool story and thanks for watching!
