For everybody saying that the PD should have IC, that is wrong. When FD/EMS is on scene it is there scene UNTIL the scene is secured/stabilized. We park our engines/rigs like that for a reason. It is to protect us from getting hit.

Per NIMS, FD has command of the emergency scene while “emergency operations” are taking place. PD was out of line.

We need to cut our police numbers in half, at least.

my dad is a police Sargent and he agrees that this officer shouldn't have a job anymore

Your dad shouldn't, either.

IMO that was a d-bag move on CHPs part. There should've been a request for a supe before ANY action was taken by the officer. From reading about it and heading the audio, command was still held by fire, and scene safety was paramount.

The CHP cop probably is upset over 1. his tiny little prick, & 2. his wife is doing the enitre FD. Thank you Fire Dept.

They blocked two lanes of the busiest freeway without the chp able to slow down traffic and they’re trying to save a bunch of accidents from injuring your firefighters and you want to give them attitude. That guy you’re trying to help is not good to do well when the pileups start right where you’re working. Safety first remember. It’s not a parking issue it’s a thousand cars an hour headed your way issue.

Well guess I've been Lucky, haven't had a ticket in 20 years, and Lord knows I have deserved it many times..
I'm sorry but this is crap the ic or officer whom ever was arrested should have waited until the sence was cleared how can you arrest a man for protecting his city town or community in the line of duty rather ur career or volunteer that cop should've had his ass fired arresting ur own fellow emergency services personnel for such shouldn't even be allowed by state law as long as is within reason and this was not justifiable

The chp know that semi trucks are headed towards them at full speed and Fd is not in the info that might get them killed. Chp trying to help fd and they don’t want to listen. You have five fire trucks blocking two lanes of one of the busiest freeway for one car crash an two people. Need to send fire trucks nome unless they’re waiting for the next accidents that they cause. Not the first time that fire department has been sued and lost for not following the rules.

Would have never let that cop put cuffs on me or my crew, he would have ended up on the ground.

Wow. That's a really unhelpful (at best) and possibly even dangerous (at worst) response/attitude; I'm thinking it's a safe bet that you're either not in the Fire Service or, if by some miracle you are, you aren't wearing any trumpets. As my grandpappy used to say, "two wrongs don't make a right." Just because the CHP officer is acting like an ass doesn't give anyone else on-scene the right to be one as well. Rather than responding with violence (as you've foolishly proposed) and risking escalating the situation and further compromising the ability of those on-site to effect patient care, the Engineer's and Captain's cooler heads prevailed and the situation was handled above both the CHP officer's and the Captain's pay grades.

FYI at no time is the fire department incident commanders at a collision scene. Read up its in the vehicle code
@jayteske560710 жыл бұрын
Actually, is FD is on the scene first they have IC until such time as it gets handed over. In order for command to be transferred, CHP needs to actually speak to the FD member with command. Also, I'll see you your "vehicle code" and raise you a criminal code: California penal code: 148.2. Every person who willfully commits any of the following acts . . . at any other time and place where any fireman or firemen or emergency rescue personnel are discharging or attempting to discharge an official duty, is guilty of a misdemeanor: 1. Resists or interferes with the lawful efforts of any fireman or firemen or emergency rescue personnel in the discharge or attempt to discharge an official duty.

The officer of the first arriving fire vehicle would be the incident commander.
@Samanthareneeheart1010 жыл бұрын
Jay Teske That's Right Fire has Command of the incident UNTIL Fire turns the scene over to CHP. I don't care WHAT highway your on or road or what ever! On a fire call, rescue EMS call What have you where fire is on scene they have the incident now a UNIFIED command structure can be used, but not called for. The Officer SHOULD have talked to the incident commander when he arrived on scene but from the radio traffic it is obvious that the cop already had in out for FD for blocking 2 lanes of traffic I don't understand the cops attitude AT ALL RULE #1 SCENE SAFETY!!! If your not part of the solution your part of the problem!!!

Hey Jay, I know you are use to saving cats out of trees and aren't savvy on the laws.. If CHP is at a scene, on frwy, they are ic its law. As far as penal codes what do you think the engineer was arrested for 148 PC. Its .2 sections prior to what you referenced.
