Chunky Farmhouse Coffee Table with Breadboard Ends

Let me show you how I built this farmhouse coffee table using plans I found on the internet (linked below). This build features the X coffee table design using 4x4 legs for that chunky farmhouse coffee table look. The contrast of the distressed painted base with stained top gives it that farmhouse look. The wax sealed finish gives it a nice satin glow that you'll love. This project was completed using the farmhouse coffee table plans linked below as well as the breadboard end top how-to video linked below. I combined the 2 to make this coffee table. This is an easy to build coffee table that anyone can do with a few tools. Try the coffee table plans below to build one for yourself. Check out the links below to the tools and supplies used in this build. Amazon affiliate links are used in this description and they help support this channel.

I have to agree with this too. I've only watched a few of Matt's videos, but he does a great job of not wasting a lot of time. One of the most annoying things I find on KZfaq is posters putting up a 25 minute video, but there is honestly only 10 minutes worth of content. I watched a video a week or so back and the poster had mentioned he needed a certain tool, and went to grab it, and it wasn't where he thought it was. So instead of editing this out, he left in the video while he looked through most of his cabinets and drawers. He knew it was waste of time because he edited that portion to be time-lapsed so it didn't waste "as much" time, but to me, if you have to time lapse something like that, it should be a good clue to just entirely cut that part out. I've never seen Matt waste time like that. He will time-lapse a portion of video and then do a voice over to briefly explain what is happening to save time, which I greatly appreciate. I think Matt does an excellent job of including enough information so most wood workers can complete the task well, and expresses this in a time-conscious manner.

Matt, I love your videos. They're all no nonsense. It is what it is. That's the way I like it. You're a good teacher. I just want to thank you for documenting what you do, and then editing your videos. I don't know much about editing, but I'm sure it's as time consuming as the build itself. I just want you to know, I truly appreciate learning from you. I'm a fifty two year old wannabe, but I'm trying.

I've used different poly's in the past, but the satin finish you use looked so awesome that I had to try it. I ordered it from Rockler as well as the table top fasteners you use. There isn't a harsh smell at all and after 3 coats (sanding in between with 320) it came out fantastic! Thanks for showing us that, and I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to try the General Finishes topcoat.

I love how the table came out! I just delivered a rustic dining table to a customer last weekend and they have already ordered a matching coffee table. I'll definitely be using some of the tips I learned in your videos. I used a satin lacquer finish for the dining table, but I didn't put any paste wax on it. I may try it with the coffee table to see how much better it comes out. Thanks for the great videos!

If I understand this right you have this coffee table sold already. Do you take a deposit if so at what percentage. The Johnson wax is that just regular auto paste wax. Thanks for your videos you have taught me a lot. At 62 I was hurt on the job and was forced into retirement. I have decided to get into wood working and bowl turning. I watch everything you do 2-3 times because you never stop learning and even though I have worked with wood of some sort all my life I still have a lot to learn. Also thanks for not being afraid to tell everyone that you’re a Christian. This day and time Christian are under attack and a lot of us hide the fact that we are. I am now 66 and starting a new career so keep the videos coming and I’ll keep learning. Thanks your brother in Christ. Rick

@@731Woodworks ok. Thanks. You've inspired me to do more!! So far I've made CORNHOLE boards, serving trays and a custom for cabinet for my man cave. Definitely want to get into making tables. Quick question, do you have to add those bread ends to that table? Is it for a look or stability purpose? Also, for you have to use those brackets that you made the slots for or can you just do more pocket holes for all of it?
@731Woodworks
@731Woodworks 3 жыл бұрын
@@4everabeast79 Bread board ends are just for looks. It is not recommended to pocket hole the table top to the frame due to it restricts natural wood movement. There are some fasteners called figure 8 fasteners that don't require cutting slots.

AWESOME information in this video as far as finishing. I am working on a computer desk for a co-worker and i plan to use your tip with the 1000 grit sandpaper. Thanks again.

I built the blanket ladder today. I sanded then lightly torched it and gloss poly. Looks great. I also made the sides to this table. Ended up having to get a miter saw. 12” Rigid compound sliding blah blah. Need a few supplies to finish up this table build. Thanks for the inspiration and clear instructions.
