Hey house lovers and explorers! Happy Easter! :-) Another video I have had for a while is this explore of and old Church and Funeral Home. The entire site was purchased and is being redeveloped for high density living. Been busy juggling a few thing of late but have plenty in store still just need to put them together! Cheers for the support and thanks for watching :-)

Those steps with tiles around them are for Baptist ceremonies, where that whole section is filled with water and people walk into the water & then back out again after being baptised.

Yes definetely a church that practised full immersion baptism. The outside of the church looked so similar to the Church Of Christ in my childhood town in Western Victoria. Probably same builder. In recent times I saw a church conversion into an extravagant home where the immersion font was converted to an infloor aquarium. Looked amazing.

Yes, it was obviously a baptistery, although they may have had a cover of a floor for a stage or raised platform. I’ve gone to both kinds of churches. Several had very large and beautiful baptisteries with doors that closed across it when it wasn’t in use and a short glass wall on the front so you could see short people (kids).

Thanks Paul, it's always a pleasure to relax and watch one of your explores. I reckon the Crosby Memorial Hall foundation stone was on the red brick extension on the back, taken from the cutout left of the white doors at 29:36. I found a bit of history about the Prospect Church of Christ from 1955. The congregation started gathering in 1893, land was donated and the church was opened in 1905. A kindergarten room was added in 1915, more rooms in 1921, and the Crosby Memorial Hall added out the back in 1949. Turns out that Miss Annie M Whitfield was the last survivor of the group that started meeting in 1893, so she must've been a good age in 1949! The source book was from 1955 so it predated the mid-century facade. I couldn't find when the church closed. Cheers!

Glad you caught these before they got demolished. They did a really nice job of converting that old house into a funeral home. "High Density Living" -- sounds like code for extremely ugly buildings with shoddy features that will not age well and will not last half as long as the beautiful buildings they replaced. Keep up the great work documenting these so future generations can see what buildings and homes looked like when people really cared and craftsman took pride in their trade. That's not a small stage in the church, that is a Baptismal tub, it would be filled with water and was used for Baptisms. Thanks for sharing!!

"Heritage building" 😂😂. It was an abandoned death trap, an eyesore just taking up space. This isn't murica or Europe lol, other than SA and NT, good luck finding abandoned houses. This is why councils and land tax exist and have always been around. Must be exhausting being as angry and as miserable as you are.

Isn't it amazing how we drive past something so often we miss it because we take it for granted. Now I know what was in that allotment that I've driven past for year's. Now I just watch the depth of that space getting deeper for under ground car parking that will service the apartment block. Another area of Adelaide where Era buildings are rapidly falling and being replaced with square white blocks. Takes away from the heritage that made these area's what they were. But thanks again for sharing Paul & Michael. Happy Easter to you both. 😊

Happy Reserrection Sunday! It is so sad to see that the old church has been torn down. The funeral home was interesting too. It would have been a beautiful home back in the day, most likely where the Pastor resided. The fig tree was huge! What a shame that it has all gone now.

New subscriber to your channel as of last month and really enjoying the videos, such great commentary too for those of us who aren't Aussie's lol. I'm in Texas and spent my childhood summers in far East Texas at my grandparents house, a late 1800's home built by my great-grandfather, one of two doctors for the surrounding area. It's so interesting to think what things were like back then, and so great that you seem to truly enjoy the rich history these old homes/buildings hold! Thanks so much 🙂

Hi love your videos a great insight into the history of Aussie buildings. Just a quick mention, in the spot 21.09 this is actually a baptising bath where you could be baptised by the priests. There is a building in Ballarat that featured on one of the Grand Designs shows, I think that it was a Presbyterian Church, that also had one of the baths in it. The fella put a sheet of glass over the top of it rather than dig it up and loose that piece of history. 👍

Some commenters mention it came from the left of the hall's doors at 29:35, I belive they're right, there is also masonry saw dust around that opening. 21:04 lift the stage and fill with water for baptisms.
