Washington DC, United States of American (USA).
View out from the White House. Dark shots from side of American President Franklin D Roosevelt speaking into microphones. He lights the Washington Christmas Tree and then he starts his speech: 'Fellow workers for peace' and goes on to say 'It is hard to feel the spirit of Christmas with the county at war and so many families away, but the new year of 1942 we are sure of victory with the extra effort of old and young. With sons and brothers in mind serving overseas, we light our Christmas candles across the land. We have joined many lands and peoples in this fight for the defence of good. One of their great leaders stands beside me (Churchill) and he and his people have pointed the way for little children everywhere to enjoy Christmas. And now I ask my good friend to say a few words to the people of America. Winston Churchill Prime Minister of Great Britain."
Winston Churchill from side speaking into microphones. He starts his speech: "Fellow workers for the cause of freedom" and goes on to say "I am spending this festival far from my country and family yet I can't say I feel far from home. I don't know if it is the blood ties on my mother's side or the friends I have made here over the years. Fellow workers and soldiers, ill it would be if our cause was not just, but for tonight let's make happiness for the children and cast aside the cares and dangers for this night at least before we turn to the stern task of the year ahead, so allowing these children the right to live in a free world and so a Happy Christmas to you all".
Shots of lights on White House lawn. BV of Churchill and Roosevelt during speech.
N.B. These are not the full speeches - there are some cuts. These speeches were made in December 1941.

That Christmas the phrase “Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward ALL men.” had a deeper meaning knowing a lot of people listening to this weren’t going to have loved ones to celebrate Christmas with ever again. The sacrifices these people made is inspiring. My parents were both young but knew how much the world had changed since December 6th of that year. The bonds of brotherhood between the US and UK are unbreakable. We lean on each other. GOD Save the King and his people, GOD Bless America..

This is a keeper! And only little more than two weeks after Pearl Harbor. Thanks for posting. Winston said of FDR "Meeting Franklin Roosevelt was like opening your first bottle of champagne; knowing him was like drinking it."

What a great orator Sir Winston Churchill was. If only we had a President and Prime Minister of Sir Winston's character today.

I mean he was a good orator but he was a pretty terrible prime minister. We’re better off without someone like Winston in office.

Winning WWII was not a done deal in this era. There'd be three-plus years of conflict yet to come from the point when these speechs were delivered. I heard about this period from my elders as I grew up. They lived through it. My mother's most charming memory perhaps is of the wartime rationing of everything. I heard about those things in short supply like butter, sugar and eggs. From my grandparents I got the sanitized version of events such as what you'd tell a six year-old. Now I wish I had revisited their recollections more in-depth.

I do not think that the US knew they would win the war until sometime in 1943. when this speech happened victory was far from certain.

And they bathed his feet but he was doing the footmassage. What a bunch of scoundrels actually. But then why not if they can't see what you are doing. Listen to those words. And they took the babies, one of those in those serious times where they put their ears to the radio. Goccha. Touch of drama there ohlala. He was good at Shakespeare.
