"For the young adults who are facing some of the great decisions of their life, you have to remember that the Lord gets to decide everything about revelation. He gets to decide when it comes, how it comes." -Elder Gerald N. Lund

Partly true, and here is why--the how it comes part is also up to us. The severity of how it is felt will be up to us

@@mapleridge8326 What Elder Lund meant is that God gives the revelation when we do our part sometimes the revelation don't come despite our efforts to get it. We are taught to use our wisdom and knowledge and go ahead with faith and God will give the revelation if that is what he wants us to pursue. The revelation may come as you are on the right track or you need to step back and readjust hence the part God decided everything about revelation comes into play.

And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? 25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? 26 And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

An amazing "image" came to my Spirit... when I asked HIM for guidance: - I heard: "Care about your Spirit, just like you care about your teeth. "Wash" your Spirit with prayer and wisdom words I gave you." I'll NEVER forget THAT !

You are the answer to my prayer. The other night, I had a feeling to "wash my teeth". Confused and tired, I didn't. That didn't make me feel right. I had this video come in my recommended that night and overlooked it. Then the next night. Tonight, I decided to watch and learn from it. Boy did he put it here for a reason! What a wonderful Heavenly Father we have. Protecting, preaching and giving us the tools to have Eternal Life, be Blessed, and Live with Him. What a graceful and merciful Lord. What an incredible Protector. What a great Father. What a great almighty God, ready to give us his fruit; ready to share his joy and passions. Must we all give thanks unto our Almighty God. For every good thing cometh through his grace and love for us. I say these things in gratitude for the Lord our God. And if I make err forgive me. Amen.

The Holy Spirit is so true; so correct; and oftentimes does not give us the message we may want to hear. I have prayed for almost 22 years for an outcome; it has been a serious battle with evil, but even today I get the message that God did not cripple me; I can see; I am not deaf; I have arms and legs that function; I am intelligent; God is not going to just wave a wand because I love Him and give me what I seek. He already did; ME. I can survive the pain and the injustice; I can, and will, find my own way out. I thank the Holy Spirit for being a "parent" to me; I truly was ditched at 9 years of age; had no direction; no prosperity; no opportunity, and my life has been trying to survive, but never truly serving God; our Father. I must try even harder, and even though it does seem the "wicked" are oftentimes handed gifts that are far better deserved by the victims of their deeds, God has a plan; I do not want to question Him. It hurts, but I will have the faith to endure to the end; to do better. I have witnessed Satan in operation through the injustice, but with my faith I know I can make it through it all. Someday there will be an answer; for now, I thank the Holy Spirit for speaking to me and giving me the direction I need to make it happen...I just have to try even harder.

Thank you Denise, Elder Richard G. Scott taught the following: "Sometimes answers to prayer are not recognized because we are too intent on wanting confirmation of our own desires" For me I know this happens when things don't add up or don't make sense to me, you see the Holy Ghost never gives me a reason why or why not just a yes or a no. Sometimes I have felt the Holy Ghost warning me (and the sad part is, I recognized it as the same Holy Ghost I had felt in the past) and still did not yield to His prompting/warning. But after a serous injury that will remain with me for the rest of my life I have now learned I should and always will not yield to His prompting no matter how strong or slight I distinguish it.

I was an atheist for years but I was a good person. Always watched what I would speak and always had the best interest in not causing harm amongst others. I got rid of social media for almost two years along with watching tv cuz those things just didn’t satisfy me any longer because all I saw was the bs they were spitting out that most can not see. I was also fasting and haven’t fornicated for 16 months. I also have gotten rid of a lot of old stuff that were only a burden because they held a lot of old memories. One night in my car, something came over me and myself manifested out of me sorta like a double image of me right in my plain view and that me was very dark and unhealthy and that me was killed pierced with some kinda Fire of an arrow head or a spear that came down from up above and killed that manifestation of me. Right after that, I just wept and felt totally changed and sinning wasn’t a hard battle to do. My heart and whole being felt so free and light and the control it gave me over my voice is truly amazing that even my singing went from a level 3 up to a level 9 in half a year. The experience made me a softer man in physical action but a convicted one in His deeds. Most friends and family couldn’t understand me and said that I have changed so much and they even find me boring because I don’t partake in their activities because my insides feels uneasy when surrounded by ungodly sights and sounds. Thank you Abba, Father for the second chance! Thank you Lord of Lords Jesus Christ for the everlasting love! Thank you also to the Comforter/Holy Spirit for saving me from my own darkness!

My mom told of a time when she was very distressed and opened the Book of Mormon. She read a verse that was exactly what she needed in that moment. No matter how many times she read the Book of Mormon, she could never find that verse again. She often thought that it was a divine message just for her.

There are always levels of Revelation exists from inspiration to empirical revelation in which the prophet may receive dreams, visions or even conversational experience. All Christians are in a way prophets because the knowledge that Christ is the Son is the spirit of revelation. Of the gifts of the spirit prophesy is the most common but varies by degree. Ask, seek and knock in faith and sincerity of heart and your answer will come.

Is it possible for a person to gain insight from the scriptures through their own thinking? If so, what's the difference between that and the spirit giving insight?
@toxXavior
@toxXavior 7 жыл бұрын
I had the same question a few years ago. I was told by one of the 12 apostles while I was on my mission that insights that you receive lead to good, are of the spirit whether it be directly or indirectly. I have learned its by their fruits you shall know them. sometimes we don't know all the answers or even the whole answer but just like in Nephi we can be led by the spirit not knowing beforehand the things that we should do. Stay strong and stay close to the spirit and "...you may know the truth of all things."
@ThomasJDavis
@ThomasJDavis 7 жыл бұрын
+toxXavior Wait. So is it not possible for a person to think to do a good thing? I know that D&C 58 says we should be anxiously engaged in a good cause and do many good things _of our own free will._ But then I see Moroni 7:13 that says " _every thing_ which inviteth and enticeth to do good... _is inspired of God_". It just sounds like it's just attributing _everything_ that had a good outcome, or that improves and builds on people's happiness and well-being, to the promptings of the spirit. Can scientists not experiment and discover new things through their own work and thinking? My question is: how can we even tell the difference at all? And if we can't tell the difference, then how do we know we are justified in saying that we are actually being led by the spirit at any given time? And sure. It's one thing to not know all the answers, but it's another thing to claim to know that you are, in fact, absolutely being led by the spirit. How can someone claim to know the answer to whether or not they're being led by the spirit in the first place? edit: it's not to say that we aren't or even have never been led by the spirit at any time. The question is: How do we know?
@toxXavior
@toxXavior 7 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean Thomas Davis. I apologize that I was not clear. We can think and do things, good or evil, regardless of who is prompting us or if there is a prompting at all. For example, I could be tempted to watch porn and I have the choice to do so or not. I could also simply stumble upon it and it still is my choice to engage in it or not. Another example, I could be prompted by to stop what I'm doing and go do something nice for someone(specific). It's my choice to do or not to do it. I could also think I could/should do something nice for my parents. Whether it happens is my choice. Honestly there isn't a cut and dry way to explain how you know it just you or the spirit. I know that is frustrating. The spirit is personal being. For me personally I comes and thoughts with a sure feeling behind it. It also comes as dreams. It also comes as unprovoked stream of thoughts. It has taken years of consistency. I personally would try and do every good thought or impression that came. Over the years I have been able to discern the difference of my personal thoughts and those influenced by the spirit. Once I needed to know something, so bad, I took like 30+ min explaining this to the Lord. I explained my doubts, frustrations, stated what I knew and so forth in the deepest detail. Then I asked my question. It didn't come straight away but I asked 3 times before the 3rd time I was overwhelmed by something that I can not describe other than feeling the spirit. This helped me know how the spirit speaks to me. In your case I would say go on a walk just by yourself and think about everything (experiences, thoughts, frustrations, ect) then go to your quiet place and knell and pray. Explain to the Lord everything that you just spent all that time thinking about and then ask something like how you can discern the spiritual impressions from your own thoughts. You can ask what however you want. If you don't receive an answer, wait and ask again until you get an answer. Naturally this is all based my personal experience but I know you can find out for yourself in this or a similar way. Just remember he answers on his time. So be persistent and patient. I hope this helps somewhat more than my last message. I wish I could be of more help. I really do hope that you find the answers you are looking for.
@ThomasJDavis
@ThomasJDavis 7 жыл бұрын
Well here's the thing. I'm not satisfied with the "it takes time and effort" response. It's very vague and doesn't seem to answer the question. What it's answering is "how does one _get good_ at spotting the difference?" It says nothing about _what_ the difference _is_ or how a person even _knows_ what factors or mechanisms to look for that would actually help them decipher that difference. For instance, I could have twin sons and someone could come up to me and ask, "how do you tell them apart?" I could say, "well it takes time to become familiar with their faces long enough to see the difference." But here's the thing. The factors that go into distinguishing two similar faces _are_ describable. They have been researched and are known. The factors that go into distinguishing between our thoughts and the Spirit are apparently _not_ describable. And there's also the possibility that someone is putting time and effort into conditioning themselves to attribute certain feelings as being spiritually caused when they really aren't. Is that not a possibility?
@Pecospup
@Pecospup 7 жыл бұрын
The way one learns which is the spirit and which is our own thoughts is by experience. That is why someone said it takes "time and effort". But our help is the Holy Ghost. He will help us understand what we are feeling. The reason it takes time is exactly because He speaks to our mind. We feel His promptings in our heart and we experience them in our minds. So they do seem much like out own thoughts. But remember, everything that is good comes from God and everything that is evil comes from Satan, so we can evaluate our thoughts and determine what is from God and what is not. Over time we start to understand what His spirit "feels like". It is a very comforting feeling to receive inspiration.

I think you have a very healthy outlook. It's true that because we are mortal we are subjected to hard, and seemingly needless trials. People who have lived good lives and have died seemingly needlessly are received by God. We know that God understood exactly what He asked of us before we came to this life, and He provided away to return to Him by living by His son Jesus Christ. The test of life is not whether God will take away all that's bad, but if we will accept His mercy and life by it.

@Tenuunak My judgement is based on reason and rational thinking. Your judgement is based on faith. I don't know how any reasonable minded person could watch that first story and feel it was a good one with a happy ending. If your god is responsible for all that is good, he is also responsible for all that is bad, all the suffering, the needless deaths. You cannot pick and choose as you please.
@MetaKnight964
@MetaKnight964 11 жыл бұрын
You may or may not have changed but just in case. God is not responsible for all that is bad, it's those who choose bad. And being godless doesn't make you rational and reasonable, that's not how it works. As for picking and choosing true believers already know that and have God to help them endure what they can't or didn't want to choose.

We all have a mind to reason and rationalize like you Dave, but not all people can discern spiritual things. Just like you accept reason and rational thinking as facts, it does mean that spiritual discernment is erroneous for those blessed with this blessing. The things of God can only be spiritually discerned and understood. Using reason and rational thinking wont work. That is why the atheist mind cannot comprehend God. It requires true humillity, meekness and a desire to know Him to begin.
