VERSE 1
Let’s make a toast to the damned
Waiting for tomorrow
When we’re played out by the band
Drowning out our sorrows
What will become of us now, at the end of time?
We’ll be fine, you and I
Let’s draw a line in the sand
Keep it straight and narrow
We had it all in our hands
We begged and then we borrowed
What will become of us all at the end of love?
When we’ve stopped looking up?
CHORUS
You can take my heart
Hold it together as we fall apart
Maybe together we can make a spark in the stars we embark
And keep us together as the lights go dark
VERSE 2
Let’s tell the truth, just for once
Asking for an answer
Now that it’s all said and done
Nothing really matters
What will become of us all if we dare to dream?
At the end of the scene?
VERSE 3
Let’s open up to the sky
Ask it for closure
‘Least we can say that we tried
But it’s never really over
What will become of us all, at the end of the line?
Will we live? Will we die?

I’ve just got home from work, sitting in the darkness of my car, the rainfall pattering on the windscreen in front of me and echoing off of the rooftop, listening to this and crying my eyes out. I lost someone dear to me recently and I feel so lost despite having a good job, a mortgage, good friends and family. I feel happy to have know her, but sad to have lost her. Everyone who suggest that Death Stranding would be better as a movie hasn't understood how it's using gameplay to tell a story. Some spoilers incoming: The gameplay loop consists of 2 main parts of which people that rushed through the game (aka most reviewers and let's players) mostly interacted with the first part: The struggle. Everytime you progress though an unexplored path of America you are on your own. You have to find your own path withstand the obstacles and the forces of nature to connect this part of land to the network, unlocking footpaths where other Sams walked have before and structures that make traversing the world easier. The second part of the gameplay loop is to contribute to this infrastructure which not only helps you, but might help someone else as well. This is where a lot of the reward comes from in the game. Building an efficient zipline network through an area where you once had to struggle to get through is one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had in a game. And this is what in my opinion Death Stranding does better than most other games, where gameplay and story often seem like they are two seperate and mostly unrelated elements. Death Stranding tells it's story through both, cutsenes and the interactive gameplay of all the players. It shows that if we pull our own weight and work towards a common goal we can overcome great challenges. It isn't idealistic about the whole connection theme by suggesting that it's gonna be easy. Quite the contrary. It's gonna be hard, and some part of the society might not be pulling in the same direction (there's always gonna be people blocking paths, or misleading people) but if we focus on self-improvement, we indirectly make society stronger. If you play the game long enough you'll notice that there is a 3rd part of the gameplay loop: Just because you and others worked hard to build the land up doesn't mean it's gonna last forever. Without maintanance the infrastructure (and society) will start eroding. This means we can't rest on our laurels once we think we've accomplished something. If we do for too long everything we've built up will fall apart. The important part is that maintanance requires less effort, but it still requires some effort and recources. If we decide to let it fall apart we'll have to start from scratch. It's impossible to maintain everything, so we have to choose which parts we're gonna keep and which parts we don't need anymore as our outlook and our objectives in this world change. Tomorrow is in OUR hands.

@@t.gracchus1786 DS is a little more geared towards those of us that like to chill back and are meticulous (rebuilding highways, creating massive zipline networks, and going for all of those star patches). I felt the same excitement and satisfaction from this game as I did trying to stealth only MGSV. And this is coming from someone who's rarely touched Kojima games. Kojima knew he was making a very new controversial direction with this kind of game and props to him for making a AAA title game that he purely wanted to make rather than have fan-servicing be a major factor in the production.

The intimidating part was why it stuck with me so much. Games like Silent Hill or Dark Souls naturally are intimidating, theyre dark and creepy and brooding. The unexpected part for DS' intimidation is that it doesn't bother to dress up like batman before it gets intimidating, its scary right out in the sun and the trees

actually, if you does not aim to 5 stars everyone, the game shouldn't be grindy at all... right? i basically rush through every BT/MULE area with vehicle without problem, only need to fight them when there is side mission to steal back the package as for the snow mountain part, skeleton is enough to carry Sam through it
@DHTGK

if you focus on only the story, i believe the only downside is that you might be under equipped for boss fights due to a lack of strong weapons and you lose out on useful level 3 skeletons that last practically forever and overall better really though, kojima makes games where you shouldn't be focused on the main story most of the charm is hidden within the cake with a lot of substories are going on in the background that you might miss (please get the pizza deliveries done before you finish the game for maximum surprise!)

yeah.. for me and from my belief.. it does.. everything we have God lended them to us.. all borrowed.. and God can take any of those anytime.. and in desperate time.. only to God we beg.. so yeah.. we begged and we borrowed.. we own nothing in this world.. appreciate what we got before it is taken.. and be grateful always..

He... The captain saved my life. You know why they called me Die-Hardman? Because he wouldn’t let me die. He brought my sorry ass back home every time. And I loved him As much as I loved her. And when he stared me down, that ghost, I knew. He was here to kill me. To make it right. And why shouldn’t he? Why didn’t he? He couldn’t save his kid. His BB. And that’s what brought him back. I guess, when he saw I was trying to do my part for America, He remembered who he was... ...and he forgave me. God! But I don’t deserve it, goddammit! There is no atoning for what I’ve done! Damn! God! But maybe... ...maybe this is the next best thing. Maybe he brought me back from the beach for a reason... ...one last time. He wanted me to do this. To keep on being Die-Hardman

This song was my introduction to CHVRCHES. Since hearing it, I've downloaded every single track and remix they've ever released. I dare say there is not a single skipper in the entire lot of songs. I'm very pleased to have a new favorite band at the moment! I was not planning on buying this game because it just looks like a very boring game, but this single audio track has swayed me into considering the game now. I mean, how can a game be all that bad when it has THIS music in it (not to mention several other great tracks from unknown artists). Thank you Kojima!

I get the feeling that it's the end of love, and soon no one will ever love each other again. But I'm so desperate for connection, that before love dies completely I want to completely surrender to someone just so that love continues a little longer. If everyone does this, can love continue a little longer? Or are we still doomed? In other words, CHVRCHES nails the intended theme of the game. There's a reason Kojima cried when he listened to this. It perfectly exemplifies what he's going for with Death Stranding. I had almost no interest in the game before listening to this, but now I've been hooked.

Holy hell this song is a metaphor for the game listen to lyrics. "Let's make a toast to the damned, waiting for tomorrow" refers to the timeline where Mads Mikkelson's character is still alive and humanity is facing some world ending calamity. "Let's draw a line in the sand, we had it all in our hands" refers to sam and emily's relationship and how even though sam doesn't feel love anymore he is hopeful. The chorus refers to the connections humanity has to make, and how at the end we all need someone.
