A quick look at a CIL 470 .22 semi-auto rifle, followed by trying out a few types of ammo in it. The model 470 was manufactured in West Germany by Anschutz and imported into Canada in the early 1970's for distribution by Canadian Industries Limited (C.I.L.). The rifle is essentially an Anschutz model 525.

Sweet old rifle i never seen before. Cool history of it also on build quality

Thanks. It's unfortunate that they dont tolerate a steady diet of high velocity ammo as that is what most of the lower cost plinking ammo is.

And, once again, the good ol' straight up CCI Standard Velocity rounds win the accuracy test. That was a nice little match up of different ammo. Thanks for showing us that. =)

Thanks. CCI standard velocity is a reliable accurate performer in most 22's. I did not bother showing how some of the ammo shot, for example the Aguila shot rather poorly which surprised me as it usually does quite well but this rifle did not like it.

They do pop up for sale from time to time, sometimes they can be quite cheap as mine was.

It's another somewhat odd one. CIL had a bunch of guns they marketed up here, some German, some Italian, some American and some from Brazil.

Well, CCI still comes out on top. The standard velocity did quite well in comparison to the rest of the pack, even if the low was disappointing. 100 yards is a pretty good stretch for the rig, at any rate. High velocity ammo tests would have been interesting, but one can easily understand why you didn't want to risk it.

A scope with a bit more magnification would have been useful for sure and might have shrunk groups a bit. My experience is that standard velocity usually out performs high velocity in accuracy inside of 50 yards but high velocity is generally better out at 100. As this particular example has survived 50 or so years intact I figured I would be easy on it and stick with just the standard velocity.

I enjoy these videos with your commentary, You point out not just the flaws with the Rifle and ammunition, also with your shooting as we all have that one or two that got away from the group (Thing is knowing it was you) and admitting it. There are many old semi auto .22 rifles and pistols that you should only fire standard velocity ammo in. My match pistols M-106 High Standard and Mod-41. these pistols are geared (tuned) for standard presser ammunition and your risk accuracy and structural damage in them if shooting High velocity. Btw, firing old ammunition is like you suggested, the priming compound has degraded some brands more than others. results can be disappointing. So,, with that. Good video - Dave

Always good to hear from you Dave. I have a couple of other 22's that need target velocity, one is the Margolin MCM pistol, and the other is a TOZ-99 rifle. Using high velocity ammo in either will result in premature parts breakage and with the rifle it can result in out of battery firing. As to old 22 ammo, the priming compound certainly can loose it's strength and also the bullet lube can degrade as well. Neither does accuracy any favors.

@@314299 I had two split, one simply dropped and split I assume it was cracked. The other I was shooting in the rain and assume it split hydraulically. I still have another, they are quite accurate and work well with standard velocity ammo.

How did the Aguila do? I saw a box on the bench but didn't see a grouping.
@314299
@314299 Жыл бұрын
While generally decent ammo the Aguila did not shoot especially well in this rifle, there was a lot of vertical dispersion.

Cool rifle. What do you suppose happened to the stock. Weird looking damage.
@314299

It looks like it might have had the finish damaged and someone decided to sand it out but never bothered to refinish it. I probably should strip the stocks and redo them.

where can i buy or order a receiver for this gun
@314299
@314299 Ай бұрын
Unfortunately your chances of getting a non-damaged receiver for one of these is pretty close to zero. I am not aware of any source of spare receivers. The receivers of these crack/break quite frequently, especially when shot extensively with high velocity ammo. As a result there are a lot of guns out there that are in great shape except that the receiver is busted.

Hahaha.. You are going to probably think "Dave.. why don't you do that"? What I was thinking is the .303 with some cast bullets, I have watched "Brattish muzzleloaders" channel and he does use cast bullets in his videos, thing is.. he does not go into detail on the mold. I believe it is a NEI mold 5 cavity. It shoot really good. Finding a good shooting bullet for the .303 is a task within itself. Anyway. Just a thought for your channel as far as some interesting content. Peace -Dave

Owned one of these and sold to a friend. Slowly developed problems with barrel movement. Will a new retention bolt sort it? Or maybe just epoxy the barrel into the receiver.. I would add that you need to hold the front end like a baby generally or the groups open up.
@314299
@314299 Жыл бұрын
Of course without being able to examine it in person I can only speculate - does the barrel seem to be moving fore and aft or does the play seem side to side? I could see the retention bolt/screw being at fault if the movement is for and aft. If it's side to side then wear in the receiver where the barrel seats might be the issue. If it is the receiver it might be possible to "skim" the mating point with some metal filled epoxy, reinsert the barrel with release agent on it and hope you can remove it when you need to..... One reason I decided to shoot with the fore end on the bag was to try and keep a consistent amount of pressure on the fore end, as you point out the impact point is likely to move if you put any amount of pressure on it.

@314299 my gun might be a special case, the dealer assembled it without brushing out the filings from the retention well in barrel. It scraped up the inside if the receiver when removing the barrel. This was back in the 90s but my friends still own it - tiny bit of side to side, but these 525s are susceptible generally with the thin barrel.

I'm not aware of anyone who stocks magazines for these. I suggest watching the listings on Gunpost.ca as occasionally one gets listed. Anther place to watch are icollector.com auctions as they occasionally show up there as well. Unfortunately they tend to be expensive when you find one.

I own the Anschutz 520. I have adjusted Mag from Mossberg Plinkers 10 shot. Takes some filing and you have to adjust how it clips in with a hacksaw. But they do work. I was firing Rifle last week. Overall not that impressed with this .22

Fun little guns, id say cheap fun, but now days 22 ammo, isnt cheap and gd stuff on shelf doesnt last long..last bulk box of federal i bought 525 rounds was over 60$ Even 50 round pkgs that use to be 3/5$ are now 8/10$, great vid anyhow bud, std vel stuff is not common as high velocity for sure.
@314299
@314299 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, 22 ammo is pretty much double the cost of what it used to be. If you keep your eyes open you can sometimes get standard velocity stuff for about the same cost as high velocity. Bought some of the Aguila std velocity stuff awhile back for a decent price from a local shop.
