Sometimes I wonder, had the tables been turned; Cindy - an uptown white woman had been married to Bob and Rita was one of his many women outside his marriage. Would the same sort of platform and admiration be given? There are lots of underlining currents and I believe it says a lot about us as Jamaicans.

You spoke of no rivalry then, what changed? You are now eaten up by jealousy, after giving that powerful speech, UWI turned around and gifted Rita with honourable awards. Bob's words to Rita in a song come to mind "no woman no cry". He knew then she would be his eternal queen.

SINCE WHEN WE GLORIFY SIDECHICKS?

Also, a year after Cindy did this lecture this same university (UWI) honoured Rita Marley with an honorary doctorate degree, she’s now known as The Honourable Dr Rita Marley OJ OD LITT in Jamaica. Rita will always have the accolades, adulation, reverence and respect that Cindy will never have not matter how much she’s deluded herself. Rita is the Queen of his legacy and has worked tirelessly over the decades in preserving it into what it is today, she will forever have my respect.

No ill will but she says she would be the woman to share the rest of his days with? She wasn’t with him in the end and married shortly after his death so when was she dating her then husband to be? I think she was attracted to his fame unlike his ride or die who seems to have proved her genuine dedication even after his death! I guess I can’t understand why she goes on like this knowing she hurt Rita. Especially now being a married woman.

Cindy you are not Rita Marley. Give Rita Marley the right to own the legacy of her husband.

No where else but jamaica would support this behavior. What kind of example are we setting for the children. It's OK to have an affair with a married man and lecture about it. INSANE. Cindy did not represent the essence of who the Jamaican woman then or now. It doesn't mean because u sleep with a rasta man you're cultured. She would never win by towards standard. Jesus christ the disrespect is palpable. Mrs Marley is still alive.

All of the other side chicks are silent, except for Pascalene Bongoi the African girl who was his last love and arranged for him to perform for the first time in the motherland at a concert in Gabon. Pascalene's story has been written in French and should be translated. Cindy's view of Bob is very lopsided. At least Rita's role in his life is now widely publicized because of the recent One Love movie.

A lot of people don’t realise that after Cindy did this lecture she received MAJOR BACKLASH from Jamaicans and Jamaican press at the time, she got DRAGGED! And rightfully so. Cindy your old enough to take accountability for your actions, you have the right to tell your story but understand that people may not respect IT either! I chose to salute QUEEN RITA MARLEY who is the BACKBONE of Bob Marley and keeper of his legacy 👸🏾❤️! The fact is Bob had MANY women but he never divorced Rita..she’s the one we all remember and respect not some proud SIDECHICK!

Bob was preaching equal rights, truth & justice which was great, yet in the same breath he was doing so much wrong to the most significant species of the earth; the women. I don’t believe in double standards . We have to practice what we preach if we want to be exemplary leaders. In this aspect; Bob was significant in other areas & millions including myself is very proud of his accomplishments, some of his principles & what he did to put reggae, Jamaica & black people on a global platform. However Bob led a promiscuous life & hurt many people; family members mostly. Bob’s legacy is a mix of repeat hurting & emotional abused as well as bitter sweet moments of his wife, children & baby mothers. Helplessly all the women in Bob’s life were deeply & helplessly in love with this phenomenal man. In the meantime Bob wanted to complete desperately his one mission & purpose in this life that he was born to do. Great presentation Cindy well done speech. We love y’all & proud of Junior Gong & all his kids.

Cindy u are quite a lady in spite of what anyone thinks. Listening to ur speech my goodness I do believe Bob loved u in his own way & u in turn loved him. Bob was always about love, one love, & to see how it played out between u & Rita, unite together by caring for him, I know he must have felt all that love around him long side of his entire family. Yes I think he went home in peace. I do believe u & Rita endured a lot in the name of love (Bob Marley) our biggest icon, may his soul R.I.P. One love ❤❤

Wow. I learned more than I expected. Jamaica is rich in people. That was amazing to hear Bob Marley described honestly and with love.

Based on how Rasta's were perceived in Jamaica at that time, one must ask the question as to whether Cindy would have even glanced in Bob's direction to give the time of day, had it not been for his fame! Rita: Bobs taste before the fame, Cindy: Bobs taste during!

I’m not sure why Cindy Breakespeare was invited to the Institute of Caribbean Studies to give this lecture. Really unbelievable. And if Dr Carolyn Cooper who inaugurated this institute was still the director, trust me, Cindy would NEVER have been invited. At all.

I met Cindy Breakspeare in person shortly after she won, she was stunningly beautiful then and is still so now, but much more than her physical appearance is her charm, and wit, she is a person who dominates a room, you can't help but notice her, she is polite, personable, and very, very down to earth.

I have continued to get to this video. Many parts of the narrative drew tears from my eyes

This is Informative, truthful and brilliant. Cindy made herself vulnerable in this presentation. I admire her. I was raised in a traditional western Christian culture yet I can find the space within me to be empathetic and understanding. I embrace whatever this was meant to be. We are all imperfect humans. There is no child that is a mistake in God’s creation. Bob Marley transcended societal norms. Thank God for the gift he was and remains. Thank you Cindy for sharing your little piece of the bridge with us - Powerful and relevant. We can judge, but it’s history. Thank you Damian and your siblings for keeping Bob alive. Cindy has been remarried twice why isn’t she talking about the men who actually married her? What has she done with her life and career post Miss World? Is her only relevance being Bob Marley’s mistress and baby mother? The lack of self awareness is cringe inducing! Bob never divorced Rita Marley for any of these women, being proud about an affair with a married man is not a flex. Damian sitting front row whilst his mother tells her story of being one of his fathers many other women is lowkey embarrassing.

I can't watch this lecture / speech often enough. I adore Ms. Breakspeare.

Apparently, a woman is defined by who she has mated with and had a child for. Apart from that, why is Cindy up on a platform? Because she was a pageant winner? That stage would be very crowded. And when will they give the microphone to the other women who were also defined by Bob. Especially other up town light skinned Jamaican women, of which Cindy was hardly the first or the last.

Someone should have sent her the book "THE SIDE CHICK RULES FOR DUMMIES"

Wow, this was really heartbreaking. When Cindy talks about how Bob was trying to prepare his children for his eventual death...how brave of them all. I wish Bob had gone to Mexico instead of Germany, too, for his final days!

I really enjoyed this speech! Still here all the way to the end...Cindy is a great spokesperson for Bob Marley's legacy. She said he loved all the mothers of his children and his lovers in his own way and his own time.

Cindy is still beautiful after all these years; it's easy to see what Bob saw in her. Not just her beauty but also she is clearly an intelligent woman and has CHARISMA. Damian is one of Bob's MOST talented musicians and very spiritual Rasta music he produces! I have no idea why Rita tolerated Bob's having other women...maybe she just accepted it because he was an internationally adored musician and many women would flock to him. He has 13 kids for a reason!

This was very interesting to listen to. Cindy is worth listening to, and her humor at 22:00 was great...her greatest God-given talent: her good looks. She was SO beautiful in her youth, and still is!

Why is she even talking about a married man whom she had an affair with and had a kid for. This is very disrespectful to Rita and her children. It would never happen to another woman where the mistress is allowed to do this. What good does this do. I guess there is not much she wants to talk about her own family with her other children and their goings on and connection with criminality in Jamaica,

If Cindy is a spokesperson for Bob Marley's legacy, how come she made the person who tried to kill him in 1976, be the godfather of Christian, her first child for her husband Tom Tavares Finson, in 1982. Bob knew who his attackers were and so did his close associates. This bond with Bob's enemy is a weird one love bridge.

This woman is giving groupie energy. Bob has been dead for so many years and she’s stuck in a moment. I don’t know what kind of man would allow his wife to continue with this behavior after all these years. She still can’t get over the fact that with all her beauty and “alleged” class, like most married men, Bob didn’t divorce his wife and marry her. I think Bob chased her because his ego needed to conquer a woman of her caliber. However, like all the other conquests, he got bored with her after she had the baby. He also slept with some of her friends, so spare me about this great love affair. Bob was a musical dynamo but as a man, husband and father, he left much to be desired. We can appreciate his music and not emulate his ratchet lifestyle. The black community doesn’t need to glorify his poor choices.

What a story shared. We filter through the limited lenses we’ve known most if not all of our lives. Hearing her story of how she, Rita, Diane, Bob, and all their children celebrated holidays together at his mother’s house in Miami had me in awe, to say the least. They created their own version of family…

Until you walk in someone's shoes. Bob definitely Loved Cindy. Such a knowledgeable, spiritual Sister🙏🏾 Bless Her & Rita

Thank you, I didn't see him but as small children liveing in Brighton sussex , my sisters and I would listen to Reggae including Bob and the Wailers on vinal, I remember reading the the paper when Bob came to Brighton, Listening to Cindy in this wonderful story was positively one I could relate to also in my Parents Life, also could relate about living in poor people Slum housing Im currently writing a small book about this time. Rita has said that she accepted the other women as the work of bringing love and peace in the artistic form of music was more important than misunderstandings and shortcomings of man. For that, I have nothing but a respect beyond my own personal understanding of the sacrifice she made for the worlds benefit. As such I see all the women as his muses and out of the immense love of Bob Marley I thank them for motivating him to make timeless masterpieces that have been my soundtrack to life.

Was I expecting too much to hear something about the importance to Bob of his visits to Africa in the last year of his life? And if there was such sisterly sharing didn't you meet Pascaline Bongo when she visited him at 56 Hope Road in that year? Yes, Africa loved Bob, and Bob longed for Africa.
