In this tutorial we'll take a look at how to approach a simple Jersey Knit fabric material in Octane. That's the kind of fabric you'll see on most average T-shirts and simple wear. We won't go for any actual knitting, as Octane just isn't really capable of that in C4D, but with the right mix of certain pattern-nodes, we can get really cool effects that sell the look.

Good one my dude! I have a “sock client” haha I’ve been using similar techniques for great results - you nailed it though the tough sell is macro views and that’s really anything fabric with 3D - once you go macro the fibers and everything become more prevalent and the fibers behind the fibers start to become noticeable. It’s a huge limitation for image maps too bc you’re limited to the pixels captured too - just a very difficult solve for sure!

My dude! Yeah you know after we talked I was thinking how they would have to develop a specialty engine just for fabrics, something about the algorithms of current engines is just not sophisticated enough for the complex microtopology and light interaction requires. I'm kind of surprised it wasn't developed yet. Maybe it has to do with the limitations of ray scale, like to make the fabric right the rays in the scene need to be able to capture the tiny topology of the fibers, and then combine that with the larger scale topology of the weave/knit pattern. I dunno, seems like it shouldn't be that different from any other material, and yet it substantially is. while working on a Satin tutorial I was thinking, the ultimate prcoedural badassery would be to get the satin effect not by faking it with the falloff node, but by actually creating a weave microtopography correctly enough so that the light naturally reflects in that satin sheen. Man, is that even possible.

Hi king. Have you ever explained here the basic difference between the BDRF modes on octane materials?
@NewPlastic
@NewPlastic Жыл бұрын
My man! I mentioned briefly the general use in older tutorials, but I never really went into it. In my understanding, there are differences, but they're mostly regarded as pretty insignificant. I do like to choose the "right" BRDF but I would highly doubt that anyone would notice the different subtle changes in effect. But! It might still be a good idea for a short video, I always like to explore in-depth the stuff that don't really matter. I'm that dude who shouts meaningless factoids during a movie

I really like this pack and I would even like to buy it, but the only thing that stops me is that these are materials for octane, but I use redshift(

Oh yeah that's possible but it's practically useless for complex scene because it's using geometry to make the knitting, I was talking about getting the knit effect using material nodes only
