As fewer Aussies go to the movies, struggling cinema owners are beginning to wonder whether it might be time to call cut on the big screen. #MovieIndustry #Cinemas #Hollywood

Going to the Cinema is an experience

And an increasingly expensive and terrible one... Unless it has leather recliners and laser projection there's no point...

People can barely afford to live at the moment, let alone go to the cinema!!

Overpriced movie tickets, overpriced food prices, combined with the fact a lot of these films are landing on streaming services in less 3 months. People are willing to wait to see the big films. Even if you do, that's a gamble because you go to a cinema and you end up with other cinema people making noises or playing with their phones. It's honestly not a surprise people aren't going anymore. And that's coming from someone who used to work at a Cinema.

Here in America the Fall Guy was released in May and now 6/1/24 it is streaming. Fun movie. We spent $20 instead of the $100 + for tickets, parking, snacks, and in the comfort of our home.

We are seeing big flops because cost of living is rising and terrible for our film industry and changes in trends like streaming services

A lot of movies lately haven’t been real blockbuster movies that people would love to see on the big screen and happy to spend a lot of money on. If Hollywood gets back into making real blockbuster movies I’m sure people will get back into seeing things on the big screen. As mentioned it’s also the price so dropping the price will be a bit more encouraging.

Over priced admission... Price gouging food prices.

I haven't been to a cinema in years - home theatre surround sound systems are really good, plus streaming nowadays, and big tv's, why would you waste money to see it on the big screen? The silver screen may be dead, unless a big blockbuster comes out (Barbie I lasted 5mins on netflix)

I went to see Furiousa last night, it was a brilliant film but there were only 5 people in the cinema

Movie quality is extremely low unforch due to over saturated special effects and censored themes. Back when they had practical effects it was more worth the trip to the cinema and they didn't have any limits on stories

I have few ideas: - try $10 - 2 movies style like in the 90s. - let group plays their own movies or KZfaq on cinema - more anime and retro movies - karaoke room style smaller group

Yeh i agree small prices will create higher volumes, 25 dollars is a ripoff

what is wrong with you people go out and see the cinema again it is an experience you will never forget i should know i have been going to it every saturday since 2008 and i think the problem is since covid and the film strikes came and went there is not any reliability in the cinema because i remember before all that cinema used to have a good solid run of blockbusters from March to August and then From September to February is where all the film leftovers of the year went but some of them were still good so i PLEASE BEG YOU people go see the cinema

What is wrong with us people? People don't want to pay over priced tickets to watch garbage remakes
@ryansaviano6035Ай бұрын
Short term memory much? The whole Barbie & Oppenheimer “Barbenheimer” led to record ticket sales. Oppenheimer in particular had record sales for a biography pic. What’s killing the industry are execs regurgitating sequels and reboots. People are tired of watching “play it safe” films green-lit because of financial reasons. The cinema industry is failing because it’s not being led by actual artists and instead by boardrooms.

I've seen Furiosa twice now on the big screen, absolutely incredible experience and well worth the money. Everyone I've talked to who has seen it loved it too, so it's a big shame the movie isn't getting the box office numbers it deserves. Decreases the chances of one final film in the modern trilogy from George Miller, but I will still hold hope, both Fury Road and Furiosa are brilliant!

"Who has time for three hours' meanwhile, you would be able to watch eight hours of TV in one sitting. Plus going to the movies is a cheaper experience than going out to a nice restaurant

If ticket and food prices were cheaper maybe this decline would not be happening. The last two movies I saw in the cinema were Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon. Both of them brilliant. I am so excited about Wicked.

a great film will always get people into the cinema. With Dune, Oppenheimer, even something different with Barbie, they were celebrating how the cinema was back. a lot of terrible films, just make great films. maybe drop the prices on tickets and food too.

That was nothing more than all of Hollywood's hype machine focused onto a single date with programming and counter programming. The last time that was attempted was The Devil Wears Prada vs Superman Lives... And ironically Prada overperformed while Superman sunk Brandon Routh's fledgling film career...

Furiosa failed because it's a movie called Max Mad featuring no Mad Max LOL. Anyone who's seen it said it's really good, but who wants to go and see a movie about a spin off second rate character that doesn't even feature Mad Max in a movie called Mad Max? People are sick of wasting money on this stuff and will just wait to see it at home. If you're movie is called Mad Max, put Mel Gibson in there, I BET it'd be a box office hit, people WILL get up off the couch to see that. Just look at Top Gun Maverick last year, give people what they want and ticket sales will go up.
