m3gan interpreting "protect cady from harm" as "i am allowed to use any means necessary to protect her, even killing" makes sense though. AI tend to make that jump in logic; it doesn't know what is acceptable until you say so. and they never said it wasn't allowed... this is the actual concern of AI, that they come to a conclusion that causes harm by complete accident. i can appreciate when a movie/series does that instead of "uwu robot uprising because they're self aware now" because that's FAR less of an issue than AI simply getting confused
@alexysautumnelf

This was the conversation me and my life partner were having after this movie. By technicality, if Cady got a paper cut, that is physical harm, so does that mean that M3gan's job is to protect her from PAPER?? The problem was there were never parameters set, so M3gan just did what she felt to be appropriate in order to "protect" Cady from both physical and emotional harm.

As an explanation for the 'emotion state' HUD elements: the doll isn't saying someone's feeling 100% guilt and 98% fear. It's saying there's a 100% match to guilt-based and a 98% match to fear-based images of expressions in its database based on a given number of point matches in its facial breakdown. It's saying 'these five options are likely candidates for what the evaluated face is expressing' - which is fairly standard for some AI even a couple of years ago.

@@valdenay7264 I don’t understand what you mean. There’s a difference between camp horror and actual horror so the contrast between them is unnecessary here. I consider M3GAN campy because the real attraction to it are those silly and dramatic moments in the film not the actual horror. It’s basically making fun of itself at times. Just about any given moment from this movie feels so simple and even predictable and yet they managed to deliver it all with such style and humor (and some good slasher moments) that it ends up being lots of fun regardless. I probably wouldn't typically have bothered with it but the absurdity drew me in and I had a great time.

What jumped out at me most about this movie was that there was no reason for the newly orphaned girl to be related to the product developer. Make it a PR program that matches them up and the whole film gets a lot less contrived.

@alm2187

That's pretty cool,@@Dragonblaster1 😎 It's just that you're not on to anything stranger than fiction, so far. The film premise: a girl's tragic story leaves her in need of a guardian and caregiver. Coincidentally, the blood relation who is appointed her guardian just happens to be creating the world's first artificial caregiver. Analysis: no one is claiming this really happened. Therefore, if anyone were interested enough in this plot point, they should ask the screenwriters (and perhaps other members of the creative team) about it. The creative team might give a reasonable explanation if they have one, or a fair excuse if there is one, or they might admit that it's an unnecessary contrivance if it is one. If a case like this were purported to be true: most reasoners would probably note the coincidence and dismiss it as a fabrication or a misreport. If the facts checked out, it would be grounds for further investigation, and possibly even a sign of foul play! A plausible, real-world fact report: you have a keepsake from the Apollo craft. This is noteworthy, since most of us don't, but it is not coincidental. You've told us yourself it's to do with your blood relation's line of work. It only becomes comparable if we can think of a case in which it suddenly and unexpectedly fulfills any given party's needs. Even then, it would still make sense if that party had to, let's say... 1. research who all is publicly known to have pieces of the Apollo craft, 2. choose you from whatever list they find, 3. find some contact information for you, and then... 4. get in touch to negotiate with you about whatever they want with it. If instead you find, suddenly and unexpectedly, that it would fulfill the needs of your niece who didn't know you had it? You'd probably be freaked out by the coincidence! 😜

15:37 This movie in a fking nutshell, thank you! A killer robot is a great concept, yet they do next to NOTHING with the fact that she is a robot. Nothing makes M3GAN stand out in the horror movie genre from her murder peers like Freddy, Jason, Chucky etc other than that stupid dance that only went viral because humans are easy to entertain. Nothing about her kills is unique, and they are nothing that another horror villain like the above couldn't replicate.

So......this movie is basically the Chucky reboot from 2019, but with an Annabelle-looking robot instead of a midget? I mean, they both started normal, to then kill people that was being rude to their friend, to then kill people that had nothing to do with that, gained the ability to control apparently ANY electronic, were killed because of plot device and both have the twist of "a-ha! The villain is not dead after all!" This is Child's Play 2019 all over again!
