Cipro also known as ciprofloxacin remains one of the most popular antibiotics in America although its reputation appears to be suffering as a result of a continued barrage of new warnings from the FDA. It seems oddly disconcerting that a drug originally approved in 1987 would still be accumulating reports of previously unrecognized toxicity.
To make matters even worse, a significant percent of prescription for Cipro fall outside FDA guidelines. In these situations the drug can only lead to harm without offering even the remotest possibility of benefit.
Among the problems associated with Cipro are peripheral neuropathy. This may present as pain, burning, tingling, numbness or weakness especially in the legs. It occurs soon after beginning therapy or it may be delayed.
Cipro may also lead to tendonitis or tendon rupture in otherwise healthy individuals. At special risk are seniors, those engaging in strenuous physical activity, people treated with cortisone/prednisone, individuals with kidney disease, and transplant recipients.
Cipro may worsen muscle weakness in individuals with myasthenia gravis. Recent warnings caution Cipro may lead to hypoglycemia and potential coma, attention disturbances, agitation, memory loss and delirium. And now more warnings caution of an increase in aortic aneurysms and dissecting aneurysms especially in the elderly and those with high blood pressure.
As if all of this were not sufficient to deter doctors from prescribing Cipro, the FDA finally accepted the existence of a potentially permanent syndrome associated with Cipro and its relatives. After the FDA recognized the condition in 2016, their equivalent in Canada followed suit in 2017 with the European Medicines Agency joining in 2018. The condition formally is referred to as fluoroquinolone associated disability but the colloquial name “floxed” rolls off the tongue so much more easily.
Symptoms associated with being “floxed” primarily include neuropsychiatric abnormalities, memory loss, panic attacks and depression in previously healthy individuals. Symptoms may be long lasting or permanent. Experts suggest an unusual gene variant present in about 1 in 11 people may be to blame.
Special precautions are in order when taking Cipro. It should not be taken 2 hours before of 6 hours after an aluminum or magnesium containing antacids. These decrease Cipro blood levels by up to 90%. Supplements containing calcium or calcium rich foods depress serum concentration of Cipro by 40%. Iron and zinc may also prevent adequate absorption of the antibiotic.
Given all of this, it now seems an increasing number of previously sensitive bacteria are now resistant to Cipro. Your choice to take an antibiotic should include sufficient information to make an informed decision. The idea of needing an antibiotic as a remedy for every assumed infection must by now be put to rest.

@@ingamager1953 oh my goodness I’m so sorry to hear. I was floxed over 10 years ago., and I was on death bed, seven months after taking nine of 10 Cipro xl pills, for suspected, UTI in stones that I didn’t even have. The ninth pill sent me to the ER. My life has never been the same but the first three years was truly hellish and I was fortunate that something crossed my path and save my life. I’ll never be 100% but I am able to live relatively normal with a bit of ups and downs. I do have a KZfaq channel right here with TV news and other Floxed stories as well, I do lead several FQ groups in Facebook as my advocacy is to the general public and annual rally since 214 here in Toronto, Ontario Canada in front of the Parliament assembly building. We finally connected with our provincial government and they were ready to act and then Covid started but now we reconnected and we’re moving forward. Many of our leading advocates connected together around the world. We’re also calling on the government to recognize the FQAD syndrome as designated by the FDA to give a code like they have a code for cancer and different types of diseases, so that we are not gaslit, and we are recognized and treated appropriately and not for the miss diagnosed treatments we are continually given. I have a Facebook account called Teri KOKO that link to all the many groups that I have. I also partnered up with Mark Girard of Ottawa in Ontario for the annual worldwide rallies that we started. So again, I am doing much better and if you’re condition is fatal, I am more than happy to give you a rundown on, save my life. I have a group that I just started because so many people asked me how it would help me, in Facebook called “ Colvita collagen (Not just for the Floxed) Group” you’re more than welcome to join that. I don’t normally tell people about it unless they ask me what help me but if your situation is fatal, then take a look and see if it’s something that you will consider trying because it did save my life. Best to you. I’m praying for you my friend.

I’m so sorry about that. I don’t know why doctors prescribed us these kind of dangerous drugs. How are you doing? My doctor also prescribed it for me because of my uti. Im on my third day on it and I chugged a glass of milk to stop the cipro from absorbing into my body. I was going crazy and feeling emotional and intense headache. My toes were feeling tingly and weird as well but today my left cheek was feeling weird and I had to pinch it but what scared me was that my right hand was shaking for no reason. I took cipro in 2021 and man did it freaking messed me up big time but I’ve already healed from all the crazy scary stuff. Now I’m currently dealing with my hormones being out of wack and with my gut health. Cipro caused a lot of biofilm and mucous. My first side effects from cipro was that my brain felt like it was being squeezed, then I always felt dizzy and lightheaded so I couldn’t drive and go out alone due to fainting cuz I almost crashed my car because I was about to faint while driving. I also suffered big time from joint pain, I ended up with cervical arthritis. My arms would go numb and paralyzed, as in I couldn’t move my arm and I didn’t have control of my hands and fingers as well. I couldn’t make my arms, hands and fingers move at all. So it really weakens my arms, hands and fingers so bad that I couldn’t lift my makeup brush and bring it up to my face. I also Gad extreme back pain to the point that I couldn’t wear any clothes that were somewhat tight or touching my back. I had to wear oversized clothing. I also couldn’t stand and sit in the same position because Edit would hurt my back. I also wasn’t able to wear any platform shoes and boots because it would hurt my feet a lot and that also made standing up for over than 15mins really difficult. I also had a lot of body tremors. It was ridiculous because my hands were always shaking. I also couldn’t work out at all because of the pain. My knees also hurt a lot and showering at first was extremely difficult because I couldn’t stand up straight due to my knee pain. So when I showered, I had to bend my legs/knee cuz stretching them out while standing really hurt my knees. I also had memory loss and it was really scary because i actually forgot what certain words meant and these were simple words like “cake” and “paper” I also had trouble pronouncing words. I also suffered big time of extreme horrible scary headaches. I also would feel like my bones&muscles from my jaw and face were being broken and smashed with a hammer. It was really really scary. I honestly do not know how I healed, from all of that. Today I’m able to workout. To be honest, I wasted so much of my money on conventional medicine and conventional doctors and none of them were able to help me. In 2022 I saw a functional medicine doctor and been doing lots of therapies and ozone. Lots of ozone and it’s been helping me a lot!! I also been taking supplements and I noticed a huge difference right away. Also my diet was a big problem because I was plant based for more than 10yrs and wouldn’t eat enough protein. So my diet has been helping me out a lot but now I’m dealing with gut problems and my hormones are out of wack, which cipro does affect our hormones. I was 28 when I got floxed. People are able to recover from this. It just takes up so much time and money as well.

It can happen, but best to stay away from all meds if possible and especially vaccines now that your floxed... unless life threatening situation. (But myself, I’d refuse and say give me a med better and safer like penicillin) No antidepressants either if you can avoid. The opioid epidemic is most probably mostly people who were floxed and have no idea sadly; and many other meds or sickness too are blamed for adverse reactions when again in most cases it’s because they were flowed to begin with many times years earlier! :(

Doctors here in Uruguay don't know shit about this poison, and I've been trying to find something but so far I've found videos with just two lines about side effects; they mostly describe the type of drug, a bit abvout how it operates and then at the very end some mention of side effects, but nothing conclusive. It's outrageous that us patients have to educate doctors about the dangers of what they prescribe, but I need them to know. I'm fed up with hearing "no, I wasn't aware", or "No, it should cause that effect" ughhhh.

The evidence is in Google ... 100s and 100s of published scientific researches thst have been swept under the rug since the late 80s. ~~~~~~~~~~ Our 2017 Toronto Canadian World Wide Rally Flyer... DO YOU HAVE ANY UNUSUAL OR UNEXPLAINED HEALTH ISSUES? GOT FIBROMYALGIA, CHRONIC FATIGUE, OR AN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER? NOT COMFORTABLE WITH DIAGNOSIS OF LUPUS, ALS, MS, LYME DIEASE, ETC? WE MAY KNOW WHY! YOU PROBABLY TOOK AN FQ ANTIBIOTIC!! CIPRO, LEVAQUIN, AVELOX, FLOXIN, OTHERS SICKEN AND KILL!!! We are raising awareness about the surprisingly common adverse reactions to fluoroquinolone antibiotics, or FQs. These are not traditional antibiotics and they routinely cause HORRIFIC DEBILITATING DAMAGE from head to toe. We will also be announcing brand new research showing how the FQ molecules bind to our DNA. This is a way to prove that millions have been harmed around the world. The implications are staggering. Part of the awareness problem arises because the adverse reactions often don't manifest until long after discontinuation of the drug, so the majority of victims have no idea what went so wrong. Adverse reactions are far more common and often far more severe than most doctors believe. Many people diagnosed with fibromyalgia, lupus, Parkinson's, ALS, Lyme Disease, MS even carpal tunnel, and more are actually suffering from fluoroquinolone toxicity! These common misdiagnoses routinely lead to mistreatment which often leaves the person in worse shape, not better. In fact, there are actually so many of us that it skews the data regarding the effectiveness of treatments for those who really do have these diseases. Those who figure out that their sudden decline in health is related to FQs face incredible denial by the medical community. However, as a result of our ongoing efforts, there has been a wave of published research, global government activity and media attention regarding FQs recently, which will soon explode into one of the biggest news stories of the decade, the thalidomide story of our era, times a thousand. This is a hidden holocaust of almost unimaginable scope and scale. Experts have estimated MASSIVE NUMBERS OF VICTIMS! Exrapolating from their published figures yields 12,000 DEAD IN ONTARIO during the 30 or so years FQs have been around (1), and roughly 116, 250 to 174,375 people experiencing tendon ruptures, tendonitis, nerve pain and joint problems each year! (2) Patients also experience up to 387,500 psychiatric side effects annually (3), although admittedly, a lot of these would be the same people experiencing a variety of other health challenges as well. We tend to suffer a syndrome with numerous serious and often permanently disabling health issues setting in either all at once or in rapid succession. Sometimes this damage is plainly evident in imaging and so on, but unfortunately much of it is undetectable with current technology. Please come and join our public groups for non-FQ Victims in facebook and private groups for Floxies to learn more about the dangers of these drugs so you can protect yourself and your loved ones. We will be setting up another petition for the Province of Ontario to investigate the enormous financial and human toll FQs are taking. Also, if you have experienced mysterious symptoms of pain, peripheral neuropathy, psychiatric symptoms, tendon or connective tissue issues, tremors, IBS or other gastrointestinal issues then come and chat to the many victims who are in our public and private groups to find out if you may actually be experiencing fluoroquinolone toxicity, something that is quite likely since doctors hand the stuff out like candy despite warnings from Health Canada, FDA, EMA and so on. Please inform anyone you know who is sick all the time or who suffers from a condition like this about our Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic Facebook groups...they need to know! Thanks, and best wishes to all! facebook.com/groups/2323528014607338/permalink/2445650679061737/

Ask the floxies subreddit. Can be very helpful, also they may help if taking fluroquinolones is your last resort, to accompany other vitamins to lessen the chance damage.
