Even though I did not grow up in a home that was religious in any shape or form, I began reading the Bible before attending kindergarten. By the time I was 12 I had read it through numerous times. I began to read the Quran when I was 12 and was not all that surprised to find its overwhelming plagiarism of the Bible. It has been many years since I have read the Quran, but I recall back then there was a group of passages that was nearly a verbatim match to Psalm 102. It was clear to me at that age that someone/s was inspired to invent a religion for Arab peoples, along the lines of Judaism & Christianity, so I out of hand dismissed the Quran, as beyond question a manmade religious text. I was also wise enough at that young age to grasp, a religion requiring violent evangelism through the sword by human agents, cannot be the product of the Creator of the Universe.

Every time Jay says something was copied or borrowed, I can't help but wish these terms would be applied to Plagiarism, a punishable offense in most academic environments, by way of being expelled from the institution.

Please do one on how they tried to copy the dietary laws given by Moses since they also claim him as one their prophets. Except that they failed miserably because they have no idea that eating camel and rabbits are also forbidden. When copying, the least one can do is to do a complete job and not a half-baked one. And they do love their roasted camels which are unclean according the Law. Break one aspect of the Law, the entire is broken. Only Jesus Christ can set us free from sin and eternal damnation through His blood.

Ishmael is depicted as a little baby in Islam but the bible says that the reason Hagar and Ishmael got kicked out of the house was because Ishmael was making fun of his much younger half-brother, Isaac. Ishmael, according to Genesis, was in his teens - hardly a little baby.

When I read this hadith: "Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Allah has ninety-nine Names, one-hundred less one; and he who memorized them all by heart will enter Paradise." To count something means to know it by heart." (Sahih Bukhari 98, 7481) I am reminded of this verse in the Torah: "And now, O Israel, what does the Lord, your God, demand of you? Only to fear the Lord, your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, and to worship the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul," (Deuteronomy 10:12) The word for what (mah) can alternatively be read mei'ah (one hundred), an indication that the means of achieving fear of God is by reciting one hundred blessings each day (Menochos 43b) Rabbi Jacob ben Asher (the Tur) explains that King David (pbuh), based on this teaching, instituted the practice of reciting God's name in 100 blessings per day.

During early Roman rule, heathen Arabs would already come from afar to pay homage to the sun god Ilah al Jabal which was Latinized by the Romans into Elagabalus, and referred to by the Greeks as Heliogabalos. This Arab Sun god was worshiped in Emesa, Syria (now called Homs) in the form of a black rock, probably a meteor that had fallen from the heavens. The young Marcus Antoninus who inherited the throne of the Roman emperors in AD 218 was so devoted to the adoration of this stone that he took the name of the god, Elagabalus, and brought the black rock back to Rome where it was worshiped as Sol Invictus, the Unconquered Sun. However, the gay young emperor was an embarrassment for various reasons, and the Roman Senate soon arranged for his execution, after which the black rock was returned to its original home in Emesa. I have been unable to discover what happened to the sacred black rock of the Arabs after it was returned to Emesa/Homs, but in the early Islamic period a black rock shows up a little farther south in Petra, the trading center, where it too is a focus of pilgrimages by the Arabs. Later the black rock of Petra will be carted south to Mecca during an intra-Islamic war where it remains an object of veneration by pilgrims to this day. Is the black of Emesa/Homs and the black rock of Petra which was later moved to Mecca the same black rock? Did the black rock of Allah begin its career as the black rock of Ilah al Jabal?

Yes, Hajj is most likely the Arabic equivalent of 'chag' in Hebrew. It seems to originally define a religious festal offering / festival that needed to be performed in the presence of God. This is thus only applied to three of the appointed times given to Israel (Unleavened Bread, Weeks & Tabernacles) that were kept in Jerusalem. I'm glad that the cube - Holy of Holies connection was made. Also, before the establishment of Jerusalem, Israel would gather at 'gilgal' a word pointing to encircling processions.

I think Petra was just another site of worship of Yahweh (or one of his brothers). We know there were many worship sites before the first temple. One still exists and is used today, Mount Gerizim. I think Petra is another.
