You should fly the Circle to land when there is not an Instrument Approach Available for your landing Runway.
The Circle to land is the visual segment of an Instrument Approach that allows you to position your aircraft for landing on a runway without an instrument approach.
There are mainly two types of circle-to-land procedures, the Circle to land with prescribed tracks and the circle to land without prescribed tracks.
The difference is that the circling with prescribed tracks you have to follow the route indicated on the Approach chart, while on a non-prescribed track Circle to land approach procedure you position yourself as you wish as long as you stay above the MDA/H, stay within the protected area, and you keep the required visual references in sight at all times.

Captain, excellent explanation of circle to land. Question: as we come down for a minimum dissent altitude based on our category that we’re flying. We make a move at a 45° angle to the right which is the east side of the course within the protected area and we have all of our elements present to perform the circle to the land as we’re coming aroundto the base and then the final. Are we in fact now flying localizer back course?

The protected areas for circling approaches now use a connection of arcs from the end of each runway, as opposed to the fixed-radius distances that were used before. And the protected areas now account for the impact of wind on a circle, bank angle limits, and higher true airspeeds at high-altitude airports. So overall, they give you a higher margin of safety. So how do you know if your approach has these new expanded circling minimums? You'll see it in the circling minimums line - it's a black box with a "C" in the middle.
@PILOTCLIMB
@PILOTCLIMB Жыл бұрын
The protected areas are standard (unless indicated otherwise)... So if you use the correct minimum, depending on the aircraft category, you know your protected area.

Auguroni!

Thank you for your great videos captain, at 14:55 you called the final approach point for POINT C, is it FAP or FAF ? If it is not a precision approach, can we call a fix as a FAP? Thank you in advance !

Thank you so much for this art x) I have a question though, if I’m doing a go-around during a circle approach I press TO/GA then I should not climb above the MDA till intercepting the Missed Approach Procedure? What if Im on final and I’ve already set the Missed Approach Altitude on the MCP, I should reset it then to the MDA after pressing TO/GA and all while doing the go-around procedure?
@PILOTCLIMB
@PILOTCLIMB 2 жыл бұрын
No, you simply check the altitude on the altimeter while climbing
@Kommondan
@Kommondan 2 жыл бұрын
@@PILOTCLIMB okay I check the altitude on the altimeter then when I reach the MDA I press ALT HOLD? what should I do not to exceed the MDA before intercepting the Missed Approach Procedure when approaching the MDA? Or simply level off when reaching the MDA if it’s a Manual or F/D go-around?
