Cities Skylines 2 release a surprise patch update this morning, called the Detailer's Update (Part 1). In this video I'll showcase the new stuff, and there are genuinely quite a few buildings and city-building improvements in this one. The Detailer's Update helps to flesh out Cities Skylines 2 gameplay by adding 27 more city service buildings, new roundabout options, 4 new vehicles, and other gameplay changes and fixes. This is a nice update. I feel like we are now seeing the game take shape. The new post office being introduced but then finding out it doesn’t actually work is quite funny to me.

I was wondering about that! I added the post office to my tiny town and after a bit realized it had no vehicles being used, had a pile up of mail, and my citizens were getting really mad about bad mail service. The crappy thing is I cannot afford the larger one so will have to wait longer for that.

It finally looks like the old Colossal Order we used to love is making a comeback. I still expect them to add a feature where the game itself fills up gaps between rectangular building footprints and whatever gaps exist between it and whatever is next to it. Like on a curved road you might have triangular-shaped empty spaces, those should be filled up automatically with surfaces that people can choose to adjust. Programming that wouldn't even be difficult at all. Just take the largest average surface texture on each of the longest sides of that shape, and paint that in until halfway into that shape, right in the middle. Then add a decorative fence between the two. And if 1 building is only 2 tiles deep and the next one is 6 tiles deep, then the 2-tiled one should get a 2-tile-long "back yard" so to speak, so that the in-between filler doesn't have a very sharp edge to it. Alternatively, calculate an S-shaped curve from the 6-tile-deep asset to the 2-tile-deep asset. Benefits: it'll look less of a spotty city with random things spread around, and it would look more unified. United. Unity.

An important question that pops into everyone's mind would be: If this was "Detailers Update #1" then when should we expect more and how many will there be? These little buildings are so cool that it is a shame starting a city before one has ALL the available options that may come in the future. (Since some objects require such drastic space and positioning usage.)

I was disappointed that they didn't include a few smaller parking garages in this pack. Currently the vanilla one has the foot print of an entire village.

They're finally taking tangible steps in the right direction, outside of just saying things. The biggest thing I'm still waiting for is the assets, then I'll feel the game is worth it

I love the new service builds. I like how they’re trying to give more rural area and urban buildings since the vanilla ones were so big.

I almost wish they would modify the footprint of the original schools to be smaller, with the option to add modular greenspace, playground etc, to the lot. The buildings themselves are beautiful, its just the lot footprint is massive, lol.

Took way too long for CO to remove their head from their ass. Literally all of this should have been in the game on release. It was such a step backwards from CS1.

Unfortunately can’t play after this update as getting a fatal second screen UI error. Hopefully the related mod is updated soon but it’s very annoying that I’m effectively locked out until it is.

Hope you had everything saved in the cloud. If so, you can reinstall the game and hopefully it will work and you'll have your saved games restored.

if you sign into Paradox Mods on your web browser you can manage your mods from there

The mod should be updated by now. If it’s still not working, try navigating to C:\Users\XXX\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II\.cache\Mods and rename or delete the PlaysetSettings file in there. That allowed me to get back in and delete the mod. (Extra UI screens) Ps: you might have to reconfigure some settings after that.

Mine hard crashed out of the game until I disabled all the mods. Thought that was going to be a problem but I continued the save game without issues

It's moving in the right direction and something of a big surprise given the CO is supposed to be on vacation. Thinking practically though, these additions are really necessary to keep engagement for players with small cities and equally small revenues. This said, but my city of 340K (which has grown nicely since the first EC patch) is horribly stuttery and laggy and almost unpleasant to play. Such a shame as my PC is a decent specification and shouldn't behave like this. I've even tried a game reinstall with minimal mods but it has made no difference.

Yep, people may be "yay fixes" right now, but unless they fix the mid-game lag, this game may not go very far.

Very good update, I have a high crime bug, everybody dying, million homless on the streets, some new building not working at all, and I cant build, bc I dont have a demand for anythin except commercial.

Do you think there will be a disasters pack in the future? Or what do you see in the mid term for the game in regards of updates besides the ones that were announced when the game was launched.

I think we will considering the disaster section of the current game is very clearly an unfinished, and unattractive part of the game as it stands. but considering the base is there, id assume they will build off of it when the games in a better more finished state.

Thanks for always giving updates on this, especially on the performance aspect. I'm still deciding on getting this game as long as there aren't any game breaking bugs.
