I made it to #15 (starting with 2 minutes per plank type). Then backed down to one minute by #8. My elbows rubbed a bit raw so modified to straight arms to finish. My core is feeling it today - especially the side to side move. Yowza! Plenty of planks yet to concur.

Thanks doc! Great break down and creativity. Thoughts on programming? How many times a week? Number of timed sets? Got to failure or just to hard? Assumed goal is steadily increased core strength to support functional movement. Once again great tutorial

Not OP. From my experience you can train the core specifically during every workout session. When determining what the minimum time is, start with a timed test to see how long you can last with perfect/good form. Then do 70%-80% of that time depending on how many sets you want to do. If endurance is more important, than go for longer time and fewer sets. If strength, then do the opposite. Try to Increase 1-5 seconds every week. Hope this helps. Of course, some of variations will be harder than others to learn and progress.

With this man statement I disagree with him only for one reason anybody over 40 years old who hasn’t really exercised. We have a difficult time because they’re not used to it. Also a lot of people I talk to that are in the 30s can’t do a plank more than 30 seconds for people over 50 years old have never done it. It’s also not easy.
