This Video will show you how to refurbish a XUD9 engine's head.
This is My Citroen ZX engine but i have included a list of cars that this engine can be found in based on a wikipedia search that i found.

Really enjoying all of your XUD vids! Do you happen to have a source for the valve shims? I need a couple shipped over across the pond to the US. Can't seem to locate any of them. Thanks, Todd.

Watched both of the videos on the 1.9...I have a toro with about the same engine as yours. The only manual I found was online. But since never worked on a Peugeot having trouble finding out the valve clearance on the intake and exhaust..one place says this other looks like that....wondering if you could tell me what your book says on the valve clearance. Thanks for any help possible, and enjoyed the videos.....

just did the head gasket on my mothers car, thanks for the videos, you have been a great help. My torx key was a bit short and it caused the angle gauge to touch the head and stick and not rotate while tightening the bolts so I don't know if I got the 180 degrees turn right or not, this happened on a few of the bolts, Ahg! Just started the car and it runs, turned it back off and will give it a try tomorrow. Not so easy doing the head in situ. Thanks Buddy.

I'm glad my videos have helped you I'm sure you done well with it and yes it's not as easy doing it in situ. I also had a few issues with my angle gauge and being honest I have only done the best I was able to do with mine. Keep an eye on it over the next few days of using it checking all oil/coolant levels and conditions and keep a close eye on the temperature.

Wow its nice to connect with people in the know as I'm still learning myself I have heard of these 1.9 engines also reaching 350,000 with no major faults the failing of mine was me being too daring in a rather large puddle.

Hello i like your video i am interested to know where you bought your gasket kit parts for the head My 1.8 diesel 205 broke down big puff of antifreeze through the exhaust not sure what the damage is till the head comes of are parts expense cheers

Did you spin the Camshaft to ensure it ‘bounces’ freely from Valve to Valve? Mine was everso tight first attempt, generous application of oil either side of 4 & 5 second time sorted it. My Haynes states 10Nm for the “Cylinder Head Cover Bolts”. Wise to put a thin smear of Instant Gasket on the bottom face of the Rocker Cover Gasket, specially corners. Two full turns TDC to TDC.

I did check the cam was moving freely from valve to valve by rotating a couple of full turns before putting the rocker cover back on and I have also used quite a fair amount of lucas assembly oil but didn't smear any gasket paste on the rocker cover gasket as it is a brand new gasket on there and didn't think I would need to as far as torque setting I've just done them up firm with a small ratchet my torque wrench won't do any lower than 20nm

Thanks for greaat video. How you control valve buckets clearance ? Did you replace any shims by new one with different tickness?

Thank you for the comment firstly I was rebuilding a low mileage good condition engine and I used feeler gauges all around the edge of where valve seats to check for no gaps but as far as the shims are concerned I didn't need to buy new shims I re-used all the ones that was originally with the engine but they was all within 0.5 of there recommended tolerance based on the size they should be I can't remember what size they should be now tho sorry

Thanks for answer. I'm also going to dismantle the cylinder head from the same engine. I also have a vacuum pump installed, which now I want to remove it, put a plug, but I don't know where to find one. A bad rubber O-ring causes engine oil to ooze under the vacuum pump. Not much, but there is. I know that there used to be a cylinder head with two sealings on the camshaft on both sides, and where I now have a vacuum pump installed, there was just a pulley. For example, on this engine on a PEUGEOT 405 II 1.9 D car it was just like that. Maybe you know how you can install two oil seals on the camshaft? Is it possible to simply change the camshaft to an earlier one, like on the PEUGEOT 405 II 1.9 D? And by the way, how did you cleaned the valves well? I saw you had little round like Dremel's brushes or something on your desk. Did you clean with them?

If you want to remove the vacuum pump and leave it off you could install another camshaft oil seal onto that end and that would stop the oil leaking I don't have any ideas on how you would cap that off tho also if you do install a camshaft oil seal onto that end you won't be able to re-install the vacuum pump. As for cleaning the valves all I used was a wire wheel and some engine degreaser and then used cutting compound to make sure they seated correctly back into the head.

@@TheZXGuy Thanks for your valve's cleaning advice. About the vacuum pump, I don't need it at all. You don't have to ask me why I want to remove it at all and how I will be without brakes =) Do I understand you correctly that I can install a second oil seal (such first one) on the other end of the camshaft and everything will be fine, that is, it will not affect the operation of the engine oil system in any way? In this case, it will be possible not to install a vacuum pump at all, right? I have a specific technique with installed XUD9, this vacuum pump interferes with the geometry in the engine room. If possible, please write your e-mail, I will send you a photo or video.

My email is thezxguy1996@gmail.com but I've just realised the oil circulates from the cam shaft through the vacuum pump back into the side of the head so a second cam shaft oil seal the same as the first would stop the oil leak on the cam but I'm not entirely sure if blocking that hole on the side with some sort of plate or bung would pose a problem. And I did wonder and the brakes but I am guessing you've done something as an alternative to stop or possible your engine may not be going into a car

I used engine degreaser a wire wheel and wire brush for the outside and then used some carb cleaner with some fine sand paper for the mating surfaces hope this helps

I chose not to because the engine had no head gasket issues I did do a surface clean tho and I made sure it was completely flat with no pitting or cracks

I am a toy in South America and it is not easy to obtain information about the xud9 engine put in my citroen xsara. Please help me about the manual or make a short video about the manual. Thank you for the kind words. I got my Haynes manual from ebay if that's any use to you at all but it is all written in English so might be more hassle for you as it would need to be translated. If it's any use I could scan the manual into a file on my computer and send you it through an email it would likely be a big file and take a bit of time but if you would like me to do that just request me to do.
