On this video I’m working on my daughter Citroen C1 again. It’s just passed it’s MOT and has some advisories. So because I would like the car to be as reliable as possible I’m going to fix these advisories straight away. So Tyres near the limit which we already knew, front ball joints. So while I’m replacing the ball joints I might as well replace the anti-roll bar drop links at the same time.
This time I’m ordering the ball joints from Eurocarparts.com
Product code 617820599 £22.99
The anti-roll bar drop links from eBay.
Item ID- 362127901532
Also the ball joint splitter was from eBay but this is some years old. You can get one for around £10 - £20
Camera used.
Go pro Hero 7 silver
iPhone XR
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT IM NOT A MECHANIC. I JUST REPAIR ALL MY OWN VEHICLES AND HAVE DONE FOR 35 YEARS.
I hope you enjoy this video and I’m looking forward to see you on the next adventure.
Many thanks for watching.

Having just completed this job, a few things that might help others. If the ball joints need replaced, the control arm bushes will most likely need renewed as well, plus makes sense while the arm is out. The vice method to replace the joint may not work so you're better doing it with a press clamp tool. Also, you'll need this to replace the bushes anyway. Additionally, there is a retaining ring for the rubber boot and a second one for the joint itself which isn't shown here. If you're using an aftermarket joint, it may not be the same style with a retaining pin on the stud. I used lemforder joints that used circlips, important to note as I needed circlip pliers to get them on. If you don't have this specific joint separator, a pickle fork will be fine. The control arm needs to go back in exactly as shown in the video although it may take a lot more manouvering especially with a new bush. In hindsight, I would have rather just bought the control arm assembly as the time saving is significant. There's a reason garages do it this way. On the subject, mechanics in my area (London) quoted almost £400 so a good DIY saving here.

Very informative video. 👍🏻 How long did it take you to do both sides?

Morning thank for your very kind comment. It took around 1.5 hours one side and nearly 2 hours the other side. I wasn’t in a rush and took my time plus if you add the time it took to video the whole thing. If you’re doing this repair the drop link can be a pain to do and make sure all the washers and bushings are in the right place. Good luck. Please remember I’m not a mechanic.

Thank you for your kind comment, I really appreciate it. I can’t remember the mileage, this is my daughter’s car and this was repaired over 18 months ago.

I'd recommend doing this rather than buying a cheap Chinese control arm which cost about £25. A high Quality Ball joint is about £10-£12 pounds and in the long run saves you a lot of time. If you don't mind dishing out for a high quality control arm £35-£40. Control arm change should be 30 minutes a side if you doing properly and clean the surface before and after with power tools, 90 minutes isn't bad a side inc filming.

@@illgiveitago1239 I looked at this video as I will be doing the same on daughters car, She is one of these women drivers who refuses to reverse park instead kerb parks!!!! annoying as ...... she bought a control arm (cheap chinese one) last time so I fitted that, its come up as an advisory on the MOT after about 18 months of kerb parking. SO this time I've ordered a First Line one to bang/press it in. You can press those in if you go to a local metal merchants and buy a few off cut pipes about 15cm long they will charge you about £20 depending how many you want. you can get a longer one for extra leverage on a breaker bar too. Then using a press you can press it in without the banging. a Press will set you back about £75 and are handy for stuff like this.

I need to do this as it’s come up on the MOT, but this video just makes it look like a struggle of a job. Perhaps I’ll pay a few £100 and let a garage do it 🙄
