Beavers are smart animals, they know a lot and learn even more about water and materials and building. I'm sure they have learned how to balance how much water they can allow through the culverts just to keep the humans away. In the wild there are allways things to adapt to in every single waterway. It is complicated and intricate and the beavers excell at balancing it to their benefit. The teeth really are like knives. Beavers bite if they are provoced, and humans are often bad at listening in to animals. We had a case in Sweden in 2013, a woman got bitten while swimming. She got up from the water, screaming she got bitten. She stopped a car and the driver - a man - got out to take photos (!) of the pissed beaver. The beaver bit the man several times in the legs and happened to slash a major artery . The man bled to death very quickly. You have to respect the animals and know what they are capable of. You, Post 10, have said you do what you do to prevent the beavers builts from doing too much damage to roads both for humans sake, but also the animals and the swamps. The beavers risk getting shot if they cause to much troubble. And the wetlands risk to get damaged if logging companies have to take out their heavy machines to restore their roads. You know what you are doing. And you do it well.

Let me guess city beaver have tattoos on their tails and carry guns.

When you found dam made of cattails i thought muskrat, not beaver. I've seen many cattail ponds with muskrat. They build lodges and dams with cattails. They are quite common here in NE Massachusetts and S New Hampshire

If anyone isn’t aware about why modern vehicles don’t leak oil as much as older vehicles it’s because the gaskets now are made better out of silicone which are really resistant to heat and wear, and some gaskets are made of silicone/metal, so they’re stronger and don’t shrink or crack/split.

Today I learned that studded tyres on normal roads causes damage. Thanks for alerting me of them. I’ve never seen them before as it rarely snows in Australia except in the alpine region.

We got City Beavers and Country Beavers and I can hardly wait for Suburban Beavers. I've heard they complain a lot and call 911 for almost anything.
