This is incredible storytelling all around ... the flood of emotions that well up with those last two words "same day" with his voice cracking just a little, gives you a complete biography of his character in 2 seconds.

Great scene. City Slickers is modern classic. I especially loved Kirby's best and worst day revelation. Thanks for sharing.

Listening to Daniel Stern talking about his best day reminds me of Kevin Arnold telling his story.

I was the Bruno Kirby character, except I was 12. I worked everyday taking care of my Mom and 2 sisters. I never saw my Dad again until I was 35. I never missed him.

Friggin AWESOME AND FUNNY movie! EVERYONE needs to have this movie in their collection. Daniel Stern is a fn riot! Billy Crystal is a wonderful actor and flawless comedic performance! Kirby, Crystal and Stern just meshed well with each other. 😎

every time I hear Daniel Stern's voice (the guy with glasses) it reminds me of The Wonder Years

The last episode made me cry. 😪 Funny though that Paul went to law school, both when Stern narrates but also in real life. He is a laywer now.

Mitch's baseball story is true, it happened to Billy Crystal as a kid. Micket Mantle signed his program twice: once that day and once years later when Billy was an adult and famous and they were on the Tonight Show together. I've had a lot of great days and I can't pick a best one. The worst was the day my Dad died. We got the call at 4:00AM and it seemed like years before midnight came and we could escape that day. I hate to think there are days yet to come that will be even harder.

This scene is in my top 3 list of great scenes TV edits out of movies. The other two are the octopus fight from Goonies and the balloon animal scene from the Mask (the offensive part is about 2.3 seconds and not important, but they drop a 3 minute scene for it).

I met him while we were in line to see "Spy Game" at the Avco theatre in Westwood in L.A.. I told him he was funnier than Robin Williams in "Good Morning, Vietnam". I think he did a few years later.

@nightwarrior1 Thanks! I know it will come, I just know it will. One that isn't joy or victory, but peace. Thanks for the comment.

Great scene and my one criticism Isn't the actual scene itself, it's simply that nightwarrior1 missed out the start of it. There's a great moment where Ed and Mitch have a philosophical discussion about death having just left buried Curly. Ed's more positive philosophy on personal mortality is such a healthy one and a celebration on how to enjoy life and not take it for granted.

@nightwarrior1 Actually, I'm 13. My father buys me a copy of the tape "Purple Rain". We listen to it in the car and I fall alseep not even half way through it. The next morning, my father gets me in the car raving about the album/tape. I listen to it and he says to me, "This is soul. This is the real thing." I remember riding around LA listening to that album over and over and my father and I talking and talking. Yeah, maybe my best day.........so far!

Best Day: There was this girl in my 120 math class in college. She was a Redhead, busty and beautiful. For the whole semester, we never spoke. On the day of our Final, I finally and talk to her. We talked for over 4 hrs. That night, in her room, on her bed, I find out she liked me the whole time too. WORST DAY: 1 yr later, our anniversary. She died right in front of me. I was going to propose that night. She was going to be my wife. She wanted to be a Mom and teacher. She loved kids I miss her

Well, I'm sorry to hear that...though if you ask me, there really isn't any harder a type of day than when a family memeber or friend passes away...when that's happened to me, I can at least make it a little better by pondering on the fact they're in a better place, I hope you can think that way for your father.

Jake Gyllenhaal played Mitch's (Billy Crystal) son. I guess he would shudder to think about this movie. I'm guessing he would never make the mistake of being in another gay cowboy movie.
