St Louis is one of those iconic cities we've all heard about but many haven't visited. We got there early enough to catch the city coming alive with business and there was plenty of bustle. Unlike the previous 3 cities, this one seemed more urban some how. Perhaps it was the busier traffic or the ever present construction but there just seemed to be more functional than beautiful city. That's not to say it's not beautiful, because it is. It's just that it has a more lived in feel. And of course it has been, for centuries. The history of St. Louis as the jumping off point to the west stretches back centuries in a country with out too many centuries to its name. Hence, the Gateway Arch National Park, which offers its own statement on the city. We start down in the old town, make our way past the arch and then up past the courthouse and into downtown. The buildings stretch up into the sky and have a combination of old and new. It's a great town with a ton of things to do. Like many of the cities we visit on this road trip, I'd like to go back and spend more time there and share all the great things on offer. -H

Thank you for sharing your memories! I was born in Hawaii (Navy brat) and got the opportunity to do my teen years on Long Beach Island in New Jersey. I believe ever teenager should spent that time on the beach!! Watching/walking this video brought back so many memories for me! Thank you for the blasts from the past!!

I loved going up in the Arch! The little pod ride really isn’t bad.

Wow! Thanks for the memories. I was there back in 1974 with my Girl Scout troop summer before I was a freshman in High school. We went up in the Arch, also went to the Anheiser Busch brewing, saw the Clydesdales and also went to a beautiful Botanical garden😊

What a great city. Super mix of old and new architecture and lovely parkland and waterways. Thank you for pointing out the fascinating reflections of the old buildings on the new glass walls. They make some of the new buildings more bearable!

You are of course, most welcome. Modern buildings can be very beautiful but also fairly bland. I love finding creative modern ones. Nashville had a really cool mix. Thanks for watching and have a happy new year. - H

Thank you for the walk. The area by the river and then the trek into the city were great. It felt like St. Louis made you a little homesick, which is understandable. I live up against The Centennial Woods Preserve in Burlington, and just found out there is a family of bobcats living there. It would be cool to see them, but it is a mother with kittens, so coming across them probably wouldn't end well. The areas where you and I live aren't perfect, but they sure are great. Take care.

Bobcats are so cool. I made a short film in grad school about them. I hope you get a glimpse someday. I’ve never actually seen one in the wild. - H

I found your walks while nursing a knee injury (I can't run with a walking vid, nor walk with a running vid weird I know) and am enjoying your travels. St Louis is much prettier/cleaner then i imagined it to be. Thanks cant wait to see where we're walking next.

How could you literally be so close you could touch the first steel truss bridge to cross the Mississippi and noit mention its role in the development of this country? This bridge allowd people and goods coming from east to travel west without stopping to cross river on boats. The eads bridge is truly a masterpiece .

Hi Mike, I guess I just didn't know. As I mention at the beginning, I'm not an expert in these locations. Thanks for the info though. I appreciate when viewers add in info like this. -H

Just walked past the wainwtight building, built in 1891, one of the first buildings in this country, if not the first, to use steel frame construction, opening the door to modern day tall structures. St louis was at one time the third largest city in this country, and played an important role , perhaps more than any other city in this country in expansion west...don't mean to hijack your walk video, but I'm just sayin...
