about the "pheonician wierd writing thing" around 9:30 - semitic languages (such as hebrew, which I am a native speaker of) do it all the time. we have alternitives to vowels - little signs below (and in arabic, above) the letter, that we usually ommit because we know the words already. that can definitely cause confusion if you don't know the language and the context, however.

Pretty sure I've gotten all the way to Aztec names before, while I was playing as giga stonks Mansa Musa on a giant map with like 6 civs. It got to the point were even with 4 trade hubs, I was running out of cities to trade with. Side note, Dido is probably my favorite ocean civ, so I'm looking forward to this one!

Looking forward to the millions of trade routes that will be set up. I just finished a game as Togugawa ending on I believe 53 total trade routes by the time I did the science victory. 4000 science and 3500 culture per turn. The main problem I ran into was the complete and utter lack of engineers to speed up the science projects with since nobody competed for them and I only had a couple Industrial zones myself. I got at least 15-20 future techs in there...
@chrizzie1
@chrizzie1 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes I really do wonder if the AI being less competitive is actually a hinderance (up to a certain point of overpowered-ness). On lower difficulties especially, they're slower to improve luxuries for you to buy from them, they're often too skint on gold for you benefit from selling stuff to them, the era lags behind your tech/civic research progress, making for out-of-date (to you) great people, additionally researching stuff from eras beyond the world era is costs 20% more science/culture, and conqured cities are less of a prize due to the lack of infrastructure built up in them by the AI.
@Grivehn
@Grivehn Жыл бұрын
@@chrizzie1 I can pinch in and say youre onto something. I've been trying "Ursa's Pro Strategies" (TM) on 4-5th difficulty in my comfy casual range, and let me tell you, the AI is either constantly bankrupt, or just refuses to buy your stuff for exorbitant sums of gold like for Ursa. So much less gold for me as well. I also way overshoot golden ages into late eras, so by the time Info or Future era would come, if Id play that long, I might get into a darn dark age, because there just isnt stuff left to get points from basically.

I like seeing that my experience with the Cree is pretty normal. They are the most consistently good civ that I play against (others are Maya, Nzinga Mbande, and Peter). They tend to just have a lot of everything quickly. Luckily they are usually peaceful. But always a worthy opponent, never at the bottom unless I had something to do with it.

£284 - Dido, also known as Elissa, was the legendary founder and first queen of the Phoenician city-state of Carthage in 814 BC. Known only through ancient Greek and Roman sources, all of which were written well after Carthage's founding, her historicity remains uncertain. Details about Dido's character, life, and role in the founding of Carthage are best known from the account given in Virgil's epic poem, the "University of Sankore" - written around 20 BC - which tells the legendary story of the Trojan hero Aeneas.

If anyone's interested, the Phoenicians didn't use an alphabet, they used a writing system called an 'abjad' (hebrew and arabic also use similar systems). In abjads the vowels are omitted or expressed using diacritics.

you could have added the Tallinn city state mod to this game. It adds the city state of Tallinn (modern capital of Estonia) as a trade city state that doubles the range of traders and adds +2 food to cities with markets when suzerain. I think the bonus is great with phoenicia's gameplay.
@joaogomes9405

I'm guessing the reason why Phoenicia doesn't get elephant units is because they're not Carthage. Carthage only started using elephants when they became independent and spread through North Africa, particularly around Lybia. The Phoenicians meanwhile, inhabited the coastal regions of Lebanon and Syria, on the opposite side of the Mediterranean.

It's a very fun mod, although it does have its strange quirks. Like turning Babylon into a normal science civ and getting rid of their unique mechanic where they get next to no science but fully unlock the tech with eurekas. And turning China into a science civ instead of a culture civ for some reason? And making the Netherlands focus a lot more on coastal cities and traders instead of rivers and districting, which is a change I actually do like but is radically different from how they play in vanilla civ 6.
@chrizzie1
@chrizzie1 Жыл бұрын
I find that even in games without the Civilisations Expanded mod the Cree often do very well in science and/or culture yield-wise, typically being the head of the pack or close to it, but I'm not certain how exactly they do it as it isn't overly obvious from their abilities (is it really just improved map exploration due to shared visibility from all alliances?).

It's the growth. The cree's internal trade routes can get incredibly silly, and the extra trade route at pottery means that their bonuses go online right away even if you are an incompetent ai.

Phoenician, like all Semitic languages don't have a true alphabet. They have abjads. Abjads contain consonants only. Vowels are represented by diacritics. We only know how to pronounce words ancient in abjad languages when one or more of these conditions are true... 1) The language has a close descendant with vowels. 2) A Rosetta Stone-like translation exists and one of the other languages incorporates vowels. 3) The vowel diacritics were included in the script. 4) The language, or a close successor, is still spoken today. The no-vowel CIv VI Phoenician city names come from Puni, AKA Phoenicio-Punic or Carthaginian. LPQY is more commonly known as Leptis Magna. LPQY was also the Punic spelling for Leptis Parva, which was not nearly as large or important. Spellings of cities were often duplicated in Carthaginian.. Another example pair are Carthage and New Carthage, AKA Cartogo Nova, AKA Cartageña, which were both spelled QRT𐤟ḤDŠT in Punic, meaning New Town,. If you prefer being able to pronounce your Phoenician & Egyptian no-vowel place names, Google them and change them to a more recognizable form. For example,, ỉwnw / Jwnw is more recognizable in the Greek-sourced Heliopolis.. You can fall down some history rabbit holes and learn more about the civilizations you're playing. Or, just check the Civ wiki, where the research has been done for you, no risk of rabbit holes.

Carthage started as a colony of Phoenicia - so it was part of the Phoenecian "empire" (for lack of a better word) until it rose to prominence. To make ti more confusing, Dido has been the leader of both Phoenicia and Carthage on separate Civ games - and I played a lot of Carthage on Civ 5 which is why I keep thinking of it!
