I believe they did that for both political sides to have perspective. They're both the most powerful states in the union.

It doesn't so much say they are "cooperating;" it just says "the so-called Western Forces of Texas and California." It could be that both simply have a common goal, even if they disagree with each other politically. Certainly stranger things have happened. After all, we were allied with the Russians and "cooperating" during the two world wars. In the Spanish Civil War despite ideological differences, anti-fascist forces, including communists, anarchists, and republicans, all joined forces to oppose Francisco Franco's Nationalists. in our own civil war, cooperation between Union forces and some Native American tribes (particularly the Cherokee, Choctaw, and Creek nations) occurred.

Weirder alliances have happened. If both states wanted to secede for different political reasons they could still be inclined to join forces and help each other do so. Because "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

From the trailer, it sounds like Texas and California teamed up. I highly doubt that would ever happen.

The idea of states "seceding" in this day and age is frankly absurd. Hawaii is one of the bluest of blue states, and Trump still got 34% in the last election. Oklahoma is one of the reddest of red states, and Biden still got 32% in the last election. You think Texas is solidly red, but Biden still got 46%. Colorado is solidly blue but Trump got 42%. My point is, how can you successfully "secede" when you've got at least 1/3 of the population that voted for the other guy? And what are the political parties even fighting about that's worth "civil war"? The deficit? Health care? Crime? Those affect ALL of us, no matter what party we belong to. It's All-American to argue how best to address these things but in the end, who's ready to go to war and destroy the country to repeal Obamacare? Or lower the tax rate by 1%? Maybe a few, but a lot more would NOT.
