to all of the people arguing in the comments, p/c are like water and v/m are fire. you can not compare them, they’re completely different, but both are beautiful in their own way. do i love that v/m won? yes, it was their last olympics and they killed it. am i sad that p/c didn’t? yes, to an extent. i didn’t feel they skated the best they could’ve, but if they had, they definitely deserved the gold. v/m were just better that week, but both teams are amazing and deserve recognition for that.

your post should be the role model of posts. V/M won, thats cool for me as a P/C fan. one of the two teams had to win, it was a close decision and the better competitors these days won this event. they were flawless and the French made mistakes in the SD. I am sad but the outcome was perfectly right. well done: 5th olympic medal, third gold- wow legends.

Gia Kourlas for NYT ...wrote about this FD !!! When a program shows 2 bodies moving as only one ...like doing by P/C ...suddently the competition is a window towards 1 other space , 1 other time , strange , quiet , floating and memorable . And C Pinard , their choregraph said ....we want to see , it's not them nor Beethoven it's the meeting both ... Yesterday P/C won the gold medal for the world championships ...with 3 records : SD, FD , and combine ..... I wrote in a precedent post : P/C will be the precursors in ice dance ....now i hope it will be soon !!

That was simple beautiful. Absolute classical choreografie to classical music. Clean lines, delicate, allready perfection of using the egde of skates. Remember me/give vibes how have skated legendary Navka/Kostomarov to classic music. This couple have ice dance figures, what I call Standart: they are both high, have long legs and artistic arms. I'm really sorry for them, that the SD had those problems with wardrobe and twizzles misteakes. When they have cleen SD, they will have won gold and will deserves. that. Canadian are really great, but my opinion-this couple have a reaaly good chances for next Olympics, if they will continue like that. The best programm on this Olympics for me.

wow, how shallow to judge a team by describing their looks as standard: p/c being tall, long legged and long armed. i guess ice dance federations should begin pruning their ranks of teams who don't have the height, long legs nor long arms, even if they have both the technical and dancing goods. *ehem, the shibs? maya certainly doesn't have long legs nor long arms nor the height. maybe she shouldn't be an ice dancer ;)

I agree :) they have a physical appearance that helps their elegant dance, all long and elegant. It is not discrimination, it is description. Some people like musculate tough looking people, some prefer thin classical and graceful people. They represent the ultimate elegance for a french person. I'll wait for them at the next Olympics! @VIRTUAL WORLD DISORDER REALITY CHECK HAVEN I am a Canadian and a fan of V/M. Stop insulting people just for the fun of it. It is disgraceful and uncall for. And don't come back with the excuse that the French are doing the same thing on the V/M video because my answer will be: Be more respectful of yourself (and of Tessa and Scott), and don't put you to their level. People have the right to prefer the style of dancing of P/C. And it's not true that their program was not difficult. In fact, the base value of the executed elements was exactly the same as V/M for the FD.

Wonderful, graceful and I love the flow of the costumes. They did well with the music BUT their edges - Gabby's in particular and extensions are not quite what i would hope for with this music and look. I have no idea how they did so well in the short dance forget the wardrobe malfunction but technically there were bobbles and artistically this team does not have the magic of Virtue and Moir or Chock and Bates. They can get away a bit more in the Free dance but the short dance the chem was not there. Still I am amazed after what seemed the fix was in and that the judges wanted to give it to them. They gave it to the right team - Virtue and Moir much to my surprise. Still lovely free dance.

Oh, thank you for mentioning their technical skills. I totally agree, I don't know why people seem to think they're better technical skaters than the canadians. They skate almost the entire program on 2 feet, . They're are unison, but their free leg seems to be just thrown out, not extended, like they can't wait to put it down, so they can be back on 2 feet again. At times, it looks quite messy . As to artistic merit, me. It's been done forever by the Russians, nothing new here.

Me too! Apparently not everyone understands the concept of elegance. For me it's the same difference between Moses Pendleton and Alvin Ailey or Philippe Découflé.. One is athletic (yes very well executed) and one is only beauty you can't feel any effort because there is no show of capacities, only dancing for art. Very different things. +Derek To by saying "For those, who don't appreciate this artistry, I bet they can't do it themselves", then you are being prejudiced as to the skills of the fans/viewers who watch ice dance, but not necessarily appreciate p/c's "artistry". like i said, can you even do what p/c is doing? and besides, none of us casual fans are actual judges of this sport, but we can do CRITICAL THINKING of the sport aspect of this discipline, right? do we have to have the skills to be able to do some critical thinking of this sport?
@derekto63566 жыл бұрын
I entitle to my opinion and you entitle to yours. I don't think much of people, who said that certain skaters are boring or overrated. In the spirit of the Olympic games, it is not about getting a metal but the fortitude in participation and the courage to perform in one's best ability. You can do as much Critical thinking of the sport aspect of this discipline, please don't be critical of those had the fortitude and courage to perform, presenting their countries. If you don't have the skills to comment on skaters, it is best to leave it to the judges at the Olympic Games. Judges at the Games are there for a reason, right!

@JemJen025 жыл бұрын
They got a higher score than the Canadians for this piece. I think Moir and virtue got a 122.40 and these guys got a 123.35 for their free dance aka this one. The Canadians were 1.7 points ahead after the short program already. So they took the gold by a fraction! I mean I frickin loved the moulin rouge piece, that was their free dance, that was amazing! But just to let you know. Technically these guys scored a tiny bit higher here. I mean the level of artistry and technique is sublime for both couples anyway!
@charnierpradita57165 жыл бұрын
How would you perform your twizzles with your top coming off and exposing your breast at a time where everything is mocked on social medias and knowing you have to go on ? Acknowledge that it messed with Gabby and that her mind was on the program AND on trying to keep her top on herself. Whether or not it's the origin of the mistakes, only Gabriella can know for sure. For the rest of us, we can only speculate.
@sonisisuper5 жыл бұрын
Their fault. Wardrobe is a part of being a figure skater. Dumb mistake to make and it cost them. Oh well. V/M are superior anyway.
@charnierpradita57165 жыл бұрын
Their fault ? How is it their fault ? Gabriella can't turn around her head at 180 degrees to see if it's ok. They had someone to take care of that. She did not. Since the accident, Guillaume is the one to sew the costumes. If someone is responsible, it's that lady in charge of the costumes who, obviously, missed something. Besides, they have a coaching team for that. If skaters could do everything themselves, there would be no coaching team. Everyone failed them and one can wonder if this was not on purpose. Besides, please, don't make statements like "V/M are superior". Scores during the olympic season say otherwise. And in the end, it came down to the skaters who were the cleanest. It happened to be V/M. But at the GPF, it was P/C. It was close.
@justynazokiewska82235 жыл бұрын
You are misunderstanding at least in my case. I just wish that rivalry would come to a 4 clean skates from both teams. I'm familiar with moonlight sonata but I'm not sure with the story behind the music and that's why I'm not sure about their interpretation of it. That being said their dance is elegant and smooth, but I think some moves didn't match the music. (Or it's only me?) There were wild and fast piano beats but their movements were a little... calm? and there are smooth tunes but their movements were...wild. If they could just exchange some parts, then it'll be sublime. :) Because of those, I feel less emotion from this piece compared to the Shib sibs (it was fun!) or Virtue-Moir (that made me cry the first time I've watched them on YT few days ago, to be honest) Anyway, I'll resume my time in my rabbit hole watching figure skating (this is the first time I've gotten engaged in the sport!)

Julia : in fact this sonata have a story .....when Beethoven wrote this pièce of piano .....he was very sad and depressive after a love affair without future for a young Austrian countess ( 17 old for her 40 old and more for him ) and in the same time he became deaf .....very hard for a musician !!! I think P/C translate perfectly the sadness and also the romantism ( we are in 19 century it's the romantic period in Europa ) For me the traduction of music on ice dance is a perfect moment , i see no P/C nor Beethoven but both in the same story .

Is a shame what happened in the short program with the wardrobe malfunction. They are exquisite and a joy to watch. Ice dancing is about the lines, telling a story, about emotion and technique and this couple has all of the above. They are still young and hopefully will have another chance for olympic gold.

Really? You are a sore fan of the winner? Why? Because Papadakis and Cizeron set another world record in the FD and beat Virtue and Moir in the FD? Do you realize that your comments diminish Virtue and Moir's win? For a fan of the winners to feel compelled to diss the silver medalists says a lot about your character. I am not an expert. But I do know that ice dance commentators always comment about P/C's blades on ice and the fact that in their routines they cover much more of the ice than do most ice dancers. So I doubt that you are any kind of expert in ice dance. But since 2014, I have noticed this about a significant minority of Virtue and Moir's fans. They are mean spirited and find it necessary to diss competitors even when Virtue and Moir are not competing. V/M fans did this to Davis and White when D/W competed on DWTS. And V/M fans did this to Papadakis and Cizeron during 2015 and 2016 even though V/M were not competing. And when D/W won the gold in 2014, they were dissed by V/M fans over and over and over again. I enjoy reading comments, and "no" I have not observed the fans of other ice dance couples be as mean spirited and so persistently mean spirited towards other ice dancers as are V/M's fans.

DONT TALK TO THAT BITCH...she is jealous, every time ... In FS everyone is overscored beside Teass and scott, those lousy , slow skaters who have programs like corny , cheap, tacky tv show , they are fanatics, they hate on p/c eveywhere, even on those events where v.m arent in. tjey will be hating on them until they will stop skating, they are jealous losers

@izza_ISFP6 жыл бұрын

@manick47076 жыл бұрын

It was genuinely lovely but I did not think the routine was Olympics worthy. I think they are capable of much more. The audience reaction was not nearly as enthusiastic as it was for V/M. Of course, P/C are much younger and have not had nearly the experience that V/M have. I hope that their coaches will give them more demanding programs in the future. They need to do more than just "lovely", at which they excel.

I'm not hugely into skating but howd they get silver??? The shib sibs at least matched the intensity of their music and twizzled better than this couple. This was highkey a let down bc of the chemistry too :/ but still elegant.

It was pretty obvious to people who know about skating. Shib sibs are not even close to as good as P/C. Sorry to blow your reality.

Canadians in ice dance: The French pair have an easier routine ice dance is not about speed or art it's about big difficult skills Canadians in ladies' singles: The Russians have more difficult programs but it's not about jumps it's about speed and art As a Canadian, I am throughly confused by the hypocrisy of certain comments. I for one enjoy them all for their differences, but think difficult and execution of elements should be more important in singles and pairs, where as art, speed, and fluidity should be valued more in dance, as the title itself is an art. Of course being the best in all aspects is ideal but that's not the case with any skater; they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

For the world championship 2018 in Milan ; they won the gold medal but with 3 records ....SD , FD , and total ....i think if their skating was so easely ...it could 'nt be possible .... V/M was great champions ....they made a great career ....now it's seems to me ....we must turn the page ...and sincerely their " cunniliftus " not missing me !!!!

How did they get the highest score ever? There was an obvious mistake in their twizzles. Also, I would say their strength is more on the technical side. Artistically they are rather dull. Compare their artistry to some of the greats from the 1990s for example, like Usova/Zhulin or Klimova/Ponomarenko, and there is no comparison.
@manick47076 жыл бұрын
mistake on the twizzles for SD ....here they talk about the FD ....you write too quickly !!! After you can' t compare the notes between 1990 and now ...because the rules of ISU changed at the beginning of 2000... Also for me the difference between Usola /Zhulin or other ...is the speed on ice ....i think also the material change , the technology changed also ... Usola /Zhulin or Klimova /ponomarenko...i agreed they was great champions ....but the skating is different ...like for exemple ....Katarina Witt and Alina Zagitova ....it's different but also 2 great skaters ...

I was referring to a mistake in the twizzles here in the FD. In their third twizzle they were out of sync.

@Angel773006 жыл бұрын
French would have win the gold, it would have been the same, they deserved a gold medal. The Canadian won only cause of the canadian judge in the Free. (No french judge and canadian judge didn t give a single 10 to the french but 4 to the canadian, others judges gave an average 3.3 times a 10 to the french (each judge give 5 marks))
@izza_ISFP6 жыл бұрын
@Cedric L Except that there are only 7 scores that count for the final score. The highest and lowest score are not taken into account, so the score from the Canadian judge did not count.

To person who thinks "this sport has always been at this level of difficulty lol" I say, first cut out the lol nonsense and second, watch the sport as it was just four years ago in Sochi 2014 and the back to Vancouver in 2010. If you can't see how the sport has fallen in difficulty then pls wear a new pair of eyeglasses ( spectacles to the ones with an education).
