Can you tow with a Carli or Thuren suspension system? We can tell you yes, but we figured we'd prove it by towing right up to the 17,000 pound max capacity of this 2015 Ram 2500 on a Carli Suspension Pintop 2.5" level system and 37" tires. If you've ever wanted a truck that can tow, haul, and comfortably drive off road, the Carli suspension Pintop 2.5 level system can't be beat. It really is the do it all set up!

We just need the trucks and time to film it! Re-gearing depends on your starting ratio and personal preference. We always recommend doing 37s, and then seeing how you feel. For a truck towing that much, a 20/37 set up is probably going to be the better choice.

It still has the factory rear coils. Do a video with the pintop or Backcountry systems. They sag bad. You have to have bags or timberen's.
@CJCOffRoad
@CJCOffRoad 4 жыл бұрын
Of course! That’s a given. The 2500s have low capacity from the factory, so adding a soft ride spring reduces it further. If you want to tow with a 3” system on a Ram 2500, just run a set of Timbrens when you do, and take them out to enjoy the ride quality and off road capability the rest of the time! That gets you the best of both worlds. The entire purpose of the leveling system is to retain the rear coils for people that need factory capacity at all times, and are willing to give up off road ride to achieve that.

@@CJCOffRoad I'm really wanting to do the 3" pintop system with torsion bar on my '16 2500. I like the idea of the bolt on/bolt off capability with the Timbrens to supplement. Do you have an estimate as to how much of an impact on the factory payload capacity with this set up or is it pretty close to factory?
@CJCOffRoad
@CJCOffRoad 4 жыл бұрын
The 3” system with rear coils retains 85% payload. For times that you need to have full capacity for towing, Timbrens are literally four bolts and go in place of the factory bump stop. You don’t want to off road with the Timbrens in place though. They’re an on road only towing/payload solution.

No they need to be mounted to the frame and axle, and are designed to work with 12" of rear wheel travel. If you want to maintain a full 14" of travel, you'll need to use Timbrens or Sumos with spacers and remove them when empty. Any airbag kit will sacrifice either upward or droop travel sadly.

It has to do with the exact options. The standard leaf springs alone reduce capacity, but when paired with factory air ride or Carli's airbag system full capacity is retained. Carli also has multiple leaf spring options with higher capacity for trucks with campers etc. Long story short, we can always tailor a build to your needs.

This is a poor example. The leveling kit uses stock rear springs so of course your towing capacity stays the same. Only issue is a level kit makes a truck squat in the back when towing which some of us don't like. Please post a video of a full Carly lift and how towing is affected. At what weight do you need to add airbags and does it squat with just a bumper pull 10k pound camper? That's what I tow and what concerns me.
@CJCOffRoad
@CJCOffRoad 4 жыл бұрын
Actually this is a fantastic example since the Carli leveling systems were designed SPECIFICALLY for customers that want better off road performance, with no impact on their factory towing and payload specs. On the 3" systems you have multiple options depending on the make, model, and year of your truck. If you share that, we can recommend a set up and give specific payload/towing specs!

@@CJCOffRoad I think what he is saying is we don't see a bunch of comments from people who are claiming a front only level is effecting tow capacity so why even make the video? Does anyone expect to lose tow capacity when they are retaining their rear factory set up? You sort of made it sound like there is this "myth" out there that this is the case when all I have ever read are people saying the Carli rear options reduce payload fairly dramatically, which is true. Anyway, I wish there was a way to keep the rear capacity AND get a softer ride but that isn't physically possible. Airbags can correct the sag but won't increase the payload. I'm going with a front level and bigger blocks in the rear and still adding airbags.

Isn’t really that heavy by today’s standards. There’s a place for a 3/4 ton and a place for a 1 ton and the naysayers like me tow more than what a 2500 is legal for. That being said, I’m sold on better, taller springs, not pucks and a more substantial track bar as well a steering box stabilizer and of course a shock upgrade. Any truck is going to squat at the maximum towing spec. You can't expect zero squat when towing at the absolute maximum specs of the truck! You have to be reasonable with your needs and do suspension accordingly. If you're looking to tow over 20k, then a 3500 with air bags is a must, and you'll probably want to retain the factory leaf springs. You can still get a solid ride quality improvement with a Carli 3500 level and actually improve towing comfort using high end, tuned shocks with more damping to control trailer feedback. The other option is doing a Carli Air assist system on a factory air assist truck. That's the only 3" system on the market that has full four corner springs, dramatically improves ride, and keeps factory towing and payload specs.

There's no mystery to uncover! The Carli level systems retain stock rear coils and just add better shocks, so you end up getting stock payload/towing specs with more damping control thanks to the shocks. The whole purpose of a level height system is retaining the factory rear springs, but controlling sway and ride more effectively.
