I remember one night during my freshman year of university when I was walking home from class and decided to take a detour through the student center. It was pretty late so there was hardly anyone there, but as I made my way through, someone had started playing this on the communal piano. I just stopped for a while and listened to the piano echoing through that big elegant room. Something about it just reassured me and made me feel completely at ease. It was a small moment, but I don't think I'll ever forget it.

This song feels as if a lonely boy stumbles upon a old gothic mansion with what it appears to be people celebrating and cheering; so the boy goes inside and sees a bunch of people all dressed up in fancy nice clothes as if they are not from this century. The boy runs into some of the party guests and they cheer him up of his loneliness; spending the evening dancing and celebrating with the boy. At sunset the boy has to go home and waves farewell. The next day the boy comes back to the manor but it appears to be all run down and abandoned for quite some time; falling into severe disrepair despite the boy remembers the mansion of having been in tact the previous night. The boy inquires about the house to a city representative, explaining he remembers partying there. The representative tells him "That cannot be, the house is in such disrepair, it is actually going to be condemned. There were parties once thrown there, in fact one infamous party was thrown many years ago in which all the guests seemly died due to a gasleak sometime after midnight. That was some 100 years ago though"

Each room you step toward and every direction you go just leads you deeper and deeper into the mansion. You finally stumble across a wide room. Books line the walls and a fire is casting a warm glow. The sound of piano echoes in the room, but it's player no where to be found. You feel a light touch on your waist and hand and smile, knowing you've found the right place. You dance, seemingly alone, nothing but the sound of the piano and the ghost of your lover

You look at each other as you tightly hug each other, forming a warm barrier between both of you, and begin to slowly dance. As you twirl about , your feet slowly lift from the moon lightened floor and you both begin to sway in the air, with every sway taking you higher and higher

with the mere opening of the door a surge of memories come crawling back, you stare at that distinct pattern on the ceiling, you hear that oh so familiar creak on the floor as you take your first step, back into the place you once considered yours. the sight of shadows from the remnants of your past overwhelms you as you stare at the empty hall, while this the vivid tune plays softly in your mind. you dance along to the sound of melancholia, leaving the same traces as before, going past the dinner table, only for it to be an empty space this time, past the kitchen, past the living room. prancing, frollicking with every bit of life that remains within. utter madness, some would avow, yet it is rather a longing for what once was. you catch a glimpse of moonlight. at your best attempt of being understood, you approach "what went wrong?" asking the glorious celestial body that does not hear, but merely accepts your being.

you enter this magnificent structure with architecture that beams pure class. as you walk in, you look around. the sunlight barley passes through the shutters that have been there for who knows how long. the spiraling stairs lead up to the second floor, then the third. you peer upwards, where the multicolored glass is faded away and delicate to touch. turning your head you look down the hall and see an empty dining room. as you start to head in, you hear soft notes echo from the entrance. you turn, slightly shaken. nobody should be here after all. the notes continue to play, and you look up the spiraling stairs. most definitely the 3rd floor. walking up the stairs you finally reach the final floor and it’s much louder. you head towards the sounds of a grand piano releasing this glow of sound. as you approach the door, you stop as you see who’s playing it. and you smile

P.O.V: You are 11 years old and you move into your new house with your family. Your family falls in love with the house but you are sad since you left behind your friends from the neighborhood and school without saying goodbye and worse of all, you didn't have time to confess your feelings to your crush. You can already imagine them talking to their crush and becoming sweethearts, while you are lonely. Everyone else is sleeping so you take out your keyboard and start playing clair de lune, seeing a shooting star and wishing that you will one day see your friends. Maybe one day, I will find them...

POV Your wondering the halls of an infinite Mansion all alone and you feel this presence with you at all times and you start to feel uneasy and you feel like somone is watching you so you go into a room but as you open the door another door opens down the hall and you feel it calling to you as you walk to it the lights shut off for a few seconds then they come back on and your in and endless hallway with no doors but you can hear whispering in the walls then you see a dark figure at the end of the hallway so you follow it and it brings you to a door you open it and you see yourself sleeping in your bed and you wake up then you have this sense of clarity and you go on about your day thinking about that dream and then you realize that dream was you trying to find the meaning of your life

It’s all gone now The past slips in echoes through the halls of your mind like grains of sand in your fingers. There is nothing left but dusty memories that fade and shimmer with every attempt at recollection. Distant parties, conversation and muted laughter play just for you, there is nobody else who would be able to hear it for it is playing from a room, deep within your mind, a room that is deep and hidden within the darkening labyrinth. The room is gilded and homely amid a vast decaying relic. But still you vaguely hear it’s call, across the ages and through the dimness, the lullaby of mostly forgotten times. Wandering the halls, there is no outside, there is only the call of the distant gramophone you search for. There is no going back. The maze has swallowed you pressing forward towards the breathy song is all there is now. The door wide open You placed your gentle hands on the piano when you suddenly you start to play it, the echo reaches the entire school yet no one to hear it.. But your happy, your alone, your enjoying it? Its scary but your not alone, the melodies of the piano are right beside you. Suddenly you wake up? your confused, puzzled, scared your in a hospital bed.. Realizing you have been in a coma and all alone, until you hear clair de lune playing in the halls of the hospital

The castle is quiet and echoey. The faint sound of a grand piano is occasionally heard. A shimmering chandelier hangs from the ceiling of one of the hundreds of rooms. You admire the array of faded portraits, displayed across the walls. Pretty frames adorn the paintings, decorated with intricate patterns and ornate jewels. You pass through room after room, each worthy of admiring for hours on end. The castle is dark, and somewhere a clock strikes midnight. The echo of your pattering footsteps is eerie, but somehow comforting. Away from all the noise and distractions of the world, you are alone, and you are at peace.

Makes me want to cry like a baby, I don't think my grandma knew this song, but as I grew up she would always play piano and hum her own little song, she moved away to be with the rest of her kids, 14 hours away, time passed, her memory left her, she had horrible alzheimer's.. she didn't know who I was anymore, so whenever I hear this kind of piano music, I feel as close to her as I can ever be again. She passed away a little over a year ago, after my aunt held her hand and told her it's ok to go, she left for a quick lunch, and she was gone💔

This makes me rember all the good times I spent with people that are now deceased, when I hear this song it reminds me of my grandparents, my grandpa died when I was only 10 and hearing this song reminds me of him and my grandmother who died before I was born and when my dad was 9, his mom died, so when I hear this I think about the same old house we would visit him in. And I would think about what life used to be like in that house way back in the 60s

I am afraid of dying because of the fact that I may no longer exist. As mental as this sounds the only way I would be comfortable dying is in some Victorian era mansion in the woods being chased by a serial killer and eventually being murdered but bleeding out slowly. The reason is because then I might not focus on death itself but I would have the adrenaline rush of a chase and the thrill of a fight because I'm trying to stay alive - I imagine I would eventually lose enough blood and the pain along with my consciousness would fade away slowly into the darkness.

I don’t really like to think about it too much but this song really reminds me of the time I spent with my older love ones who are now deceased, my grandma lives in SD and me in Massachusetts, one of the last things she said to me was “hug me mijo, It might be the last time you do” even then it hit me hard what she was saying, but after we left the vacation, she died about a year later and sure enough that was indeed the last time I hugged my grandmother 😢
