Some kids watched cartoons on Saturday mornings. I watched New Yankee Workshop, This Old House, and Hometime. So happy this show is on KZfaq now 😌

Relive my childhood with every episode. Would watch every Saturday & Sunday morning while eating breakfast. New Yankee Workshop, This Old House, & Hometime with Dean Johnson. Learned a lot. Great memories. Watching these greats again. Wish there was full episodes of Hometime on KZfaq. Then all would be perfect.

Remember watching This Old House in the early 80's as a kid. Bob Vila might have been the host, but Norm was everywhere & integral to every project from the very beginning. Only fitting he got his own "Yankee Workshop" show. Totally agree w/ @foxholewilly, Norm was THE O.G. KZfaq Maker.

I saw this episode as a kid, and it always stuck with me. I finally built a Clancy in 2021. The technology and ease of construction for amateur boats has come a long way since the Clancy, but it was still very straightfirward to build, and the finished boat is indeed and excellent little sailing dinghy.
@talyrath11 ай бұрын
Is it still a glue and screw plan, or has it been updated to more modern methods?
@LeeBoatworks11 ай бұрын
It hasn't been updated, still built the way Norm did. I'm well versed in modern stitch'n'glue techniques, so did things slightly differently (and skipped the vast majority of the screws), but still built it on the jig, etc.

Norm was the person who got me interested in woodworking when my age was still single digits. Was so sad when The New Yankee Workshop ended. Always looked forward to Saturday evenings at 5PM PST when TNYW would come on PBS followed by This Old House. Here I am over 30 years later...Fond childhood memories filled with ideas when I would be old enough to be able to do the projects. Norm gave me the nuts to tackle some huge projects when I bought my first house back in 2008. Such fond childhood memories.

I have to say this reminded me of my childhood, when I watched Norm build furniture. I've never seen him build a boat until now! Back then, and now, I sure do love to watch him. I still love watching... especially seeing the end product come together!

11:00 -- Full disclosure, the dagger board housing is what caught my eye with this video (prominent in the thumbnail) and recognizing what it was I totally needed to see how to put it together. A common alternative which uses similar construction is a "drop-keel" where the keel is pivoting down into position, instead. Excellent upload, TYVM!
