Information about CLANNAD (Source: Wikipedia):
Clannad (stylized as CLANNAD) is a Japanese visual novel developed by Key.
The story follows the life of Tomoya Okazaki, from adolescence to adulthood. As an average high school student, he meets many people in his last year at school, including five girls whose individual problems he helps resolve, and his life is further detailed after graduating from high school. The gameplay of Clannad follows a plot that branches into different scenarios based on various courses of interaction by the player character. The game was ranked as the best-selling PC game sold in Japan for the time of its release, and charted in the national top 50 several more times afterwards. Key went on to produce an adult spin-off titled Tomoyo After: It's a Wonderful Life in November 2005, which expanded on the scenario of Tomoyo Sakagami, one of the five heroines from Clannad.
On March 15, 2007, the Japanese television station BS-i announced a Clannad anime series via a short 30-second teaser trailer that was featured at the end of the final episode of the second Kanon anime series. Clannad is produced by Kyoto Animation, directed by Tatsuya Ishihara, and written by Fumihiko Shimo, who also worked on other adaptations of Key's visual novels Air and Kanon.
After the ending of the 23rd episode of the first Clannad anime series, a 15-second teaser trailer aired promoting a second season titled Clannad After Story. The anime is again animated by Kyoto Animation, and animates the After Story arc from the visual novel, which is a continuation of Nagisa's story, into 24 episodes. The same staff and cast from the first anime were used and the series broadcast in Japan between October 3, 2008 and March 26, 2009. Of the 24 episodes, 22 are regular episodes, the 23rd is an extra episode, and the last episode is a summary episode showcasing highlights from the series.
Clannad's story revolves around Tomoya Okazaki, a third year high school student who dislikes his life. Tomoya's mother (Atsuko) died when Tomoya was young, leaving his father (Naoyuki) to raise him. After the accident, Tomoya's father turned to alcohol and gambling, and had frequent fights with his son. One day, Naoyuki, while arguing with his son, slammed Tomoya against the window, dislocating Tomoya's shoulder. This injury prevents Tomoya from playing on the basketball team, and causes him to distance himself from others. Ever since then, his father has treated Tomoya nicely, but distantly, as if Tomoya and he were strangers rather than a family. This hurts Tomoya more than his previous relationship with his father, and the awkwardness of returning home leads Tomoya constantly to stay out all night. Thus his delinquent life begins. Tomoya's good friend Youhei Sunohara, who was thrown out of the soccer club over a dispute with his seniors, is also a delinquent and often hangs out in his dorm room with Tomoya doing nothing much.
The story opens on Monday April 14, 2003 at the beginning of the school year, when Tomoya meets Nagisa Furukawa, a soft-spoken girl who is one year older than he is but is repeating her last year in high school due to being sick much of the previous year. Her goal is to join the drama club which she was unable to do due to her sickness, but they find that the drama club was disbanded after the few remaining members graduated. Since Tomoya has a lot of time to kill, he helps Nagisa in reforming the drama club. During this period, Tomoya meets and hangs out with several other girls whom he gets to know well and help with their individual problems.

I love how this episode shows that Clannad's brilliance isn't limited only to how invested you get with the characters, but even through just a single episode we see how careful and critical they are when following through with it. As always, I love your videos and I hope you don't stop making them!!

Yes! I love how you're bringing attention to this OVA. The amount of emotional and the hard-hitting display of reality in this single 24 episode shocked me when I first viewed it. Sits up there with what people widely regard as the best Clannad episodes in the 2nd half of after story.

I used to hate this episode (I was a stickler for cannon back then lol), but I rewatched it recently and thought it was really interesting how it explored the 'what if' between Tomoya & Tomoyo a whole level deeper by adding society's impact on one's own self-view & course of actions. It's a pretty cool angle & exploration

Tomoyo is certainly best girl. We often can't explain why we end up feeling different about a certain person and we choose someone in our life. It isn't often because they are the most reasonable pick, but based on gut, instinct, and attraction. Even if Tomoya chose wrong, we'll always know how special Tomoyo is.

I was really happy to see you uploaded this video, your previous Clannad After Story video touched my heart a lot. Clannad is the anime that made me realise that hardest thing to understand in this world are literally basic values of life such as family, love and friendship. While living we always forget about how important these things are, we stop valuing them and keep on trying to get something like money, social status. We continue looking for key to happiness, not realising it was always near to us: people who care about you and who you care about. Thanks for your amazing job, not all big anime youtubers do videos of that high quality:) Good luck in your life)

I first watched Clannad and Clannad After Story two years ago. One year ago my grandmother passed away. I decided to rewatch all of this again before it makes one year since she died. Because this show changed my life forever. And today I watched this episode. Every word that Tomoya said to Tomoyo at the end, about how he got a job, that he's doing things good... it's been my life in these past months. And I did it all for my grandmother. It is weird to compare this real relationship to this anime relationship. But nonetheless... I was bursting into tears when I watched that scene. I was just surprised of how these words reflected on my true life. So yeah, this show still surprises me. Masterpiece.

Hi, I know your comment was about a year ago, and that's why I ask - how are you doing now? I hope okay :) I love how your grandmother inspired you to achieve your goals! And no, it's not weird to compare this real relationship to this anime relationship - people can get inspirations from many media, from many sources, from many media, it doesn't matter in the end (in fact anime influenced me more than any other media too).

Tomoyo Sakagami and Tomoya Okazaki's relationship was my favorite and it reminded me of my relationship with my now twenty-nine(29) year old ex-girlfriend. Tomoyo and Tomoya's relationship was the most realistic and believable to me. I watched this OVA so many times I wish there was a separate Clannad anime with Tomoyo and Tomoya as a couple in this timeline where we see the OVA take place. If there was an anime like this we would see where there relationship went and how much it has developed. 本当にいい video. Thank you.

Fun fact I realized with your video (as I haven't seen this show in its entirety), it would be interesting to note, that most time we see Tomoya with Tomoyo, he's (mostly) in the shadows, or darkened in someway. But the end scene (snowy landscape), he appears to be in the light, with her, truly, he opened up his heart and she accepted HIM, not how others perceived them (she's the good/genius, he's the idiot/delinquent), but him as he is and she appears to make her own choice, not from others view of her/him/them, but with her own mind. I'm pretty sure there is much more to analyse in the colors and choice of palettes/shadows/light source... I should watch... because I'm now genuinely curious about it... 🤔

Just wish that both it and the Kyou OVA got 2-3 episodes instead of just 1. The VN gives a lot more for both but 1 episode was just a bit too small. That said, what they did for each of them with only 25 minutes is impressive.
@KazeTalks

Agreed. I felt that more with the Kyou episode than the Tomoyo episode, merely because the 25m used for the Tomoyo one was so perfect. Nevertheless, it would have been amazing if each got more episodes as you said.

@KazeTalks
@KazeTalks 2 жыл бұрын
The anime is based on a Visual Novel of the same name. In the Visual Novel, you play as Tomoya and you meet all of the girls in the school. Depending on who you start to connect more, you end up dating them at the end of the game. However, the main storyline (the one where Tomoya ends up dating Nagisa) has an extra long section called Clannad After Story (which the second season follows). That is what these two seasons cover. However, this specific OVA episode is just a "what if" story that you can do in the Visual Novel and it's about Tomoya ending up with Tomoyo and showing how it ended. At the end of After Story, there is another "what if" OVA episode with another character.

Hmmmm... my only "but" about that chapter is precisely the representation of Tomoya against his development until Episode 17 (the point where happened the deviation from the main story to the two special chapters -Kyou's and Tomoyo's-). He was never shown as a pariah in the series, so it didn't have sense to show him as a pariah in that special chapter. Indeed, It was shown in the series that Tomoya had a good relationship with the sporting clubs in his school, so good he could give Tomoyo a popularity shower that was key for her to be elected as student council president. To make the transition from that Tomoya to the Tomoyo's chapter's Tomoya, an useless fellow with a pariah reputation in his school and with a damned future is, seems to me, a plothole just for the sake of the "knight in distress" fanservice

After watching Clannad and playing Clannad Visual novel I've seen how downgraded that single episode is, thoe its good the visual novel made it such a bigger feeling and wonderful read if you shed a tear during an episode, you'll cry a river in visual novel. Highly recommended since its maximum length is about 1 hour, 2 maximum.

I didn’t really like this tomoya chapter because I saw it as another ending/ a different ending( I didn’t know clannad after story was a thing).

3:25 ok im going tbh wtf was u talking about . why was you paying that much attention to her body movements
@KazeTalks
@KazeTalks 3 жыл бұрын
For two reasons: 1 - I love cinema from a visual standpoint. So I'm always paying attention to how a film or a show is conveyed visually. It instantly captures my eye, because there is so much to be said through the visuals alone. 2 - It's not normal in Animation to put so much detail into these little movements. So, when it's done, it's to convey something that the Animators and Directors really want to express. Naoko Yamada does this constantly in her shows and films for instance. It's the little movements that end up giving so much life to these characters. And when I watched this scene for the first time / rewatched for this video, I couldn't help but instantly connect with Tomoyo. It's like she's full of emotions, but is doing her best to not let it all out. And because of that, I could feel what she is feeling if that makes sense. Hopefully my explanation made sense.

@@KazeTalks I realise my comment might have come off as a bit rude so I'm sorry for that. I forget that these animators put a lot of effort into these movements/animations. instead I focused more on the plot and overlooked the little stuff. clannad is my favourite anime. I recently rewatched it but it didn't hit the same as it did when I first watched it. after reading your comment I realised that I skipped over the minor details. I should have enjoyed it more but i forgot to appreciate the small things that made clannad my favourite anime. your comment honestly made me realise that there was more to anime than just the plot

@@-samxplayz4507 No worries. It's all good. My main point of making these videos is to showcase how something affects me. So, if my video didn't do a good job at that, then I'm at least happy I was able to explain it further with my comment 🙂

I don't agree that it's "masterful". Only recently discovered that this episode existed at all, barely managed to finish it because it's this bad. Essentially it's a recap episode that compresses a 7 hour (IIRC) route into a 20 min episode. Just why
