Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. She has been profiled in Artsy, Hyperallergic, KPCC, & WBUR.

My art world currently: Mostly just attending local annual venues. A few weekends ago we had the annual 'pop art' show, which was cool. Had 100 or so vendors there. Also that weekend I attended the Alphonse Mucha exhibit at the Czech Heritage Museum here in town. It's mostly original full sized lithographs and there's maybe 4 or 5 original drawings...one of which I think was a pastel. This weekend I attended another art show just up the street from me. That was about a 50 vendor show mostly from my state but a good handful from out of state. I like where I live because there are three studio/galleries within walking distance from my house one of which is a printmaker. No complaints lol.

The king charles portrait was unflattering, but that's what i love about it. The royal family has tons of blood on it's hands

I completely agree, I think that's just a natural consequence of being a tyrant I feel the same way about politicians- disgrace your constituents and they will disgrace you

I like the Charles portrait more then the Obama one. The Obama one with the leaves and flowers looks more like digital art. In the Charles portrait does look like a painting. The head and hands pop out. The more unimportant things are not that defined. Like the uniform. The red for me stands for strength and passion. But the painting seems not complete. Like when you paint, you first put in a basecoat. Here that base coat is red. I interprete it as, his reign isn't over yet. We already see the man, not yet his accomplishments. His face is not mad, a bit sad in his eyes and a faint smile to cover the sadness. The only thing I don't like in the painting is the butterfly. I really don't understand you, as an artist, breaking down this painting. I wish I could paint like Jonathon yeo.
